MATERIALS You will need 3 yards of 44" wide quilted fabric (get the kind that has fabric on both sides) (you could also use a thick th ick tapestry upholstery fabric) An 11" x 17" piece of 1/4" plywood for base (round off the edges, so that there are no sharp corners) Two 38-40" Parka zippers (you really need alittle longer than 38", but not more than 40") Matching thread
The graph that is on the following page is 44" x 99"; this is 2 3/4 yard of 44 wide quilted (front and back) fabric. The dimensions are on the chart for each piece, piece , as follows: AA -- (Make 2) Front and Back of the bag; cut both pieces at one with a double thickness of fabric, so that the pieces are a mirror image (20" at base, 36" at tallest side, 23" at shortest side, with 7" at top then angled/curved a ngled/curved down to the 23" side) For BB and CC cut one long strip that is 85" long and 17" wide; then cut this strip into BB -which is 9 1/2" x 85" and CC -- which is 7 1/2" x 85" DD -- Bottom of bag (20" x 15") EE -- is the envelope slot that the plywood base goes into (19" x 13") 18 "). I use mine for my niddy noddy. FF -- is a pocket for storage (12" x 18"). K -- are the handles for the bag; cut one strip (3" x 36"), this will make both handles.
Cut out ALL the pieces listed above and serge around ALL the raw edges or zigzag around all the raw edges. ALL SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE TO BE 1/2", no more, no less! Remember that. Once I have sewn a seam, I ALWAYS go back and fold both seams to one side and stitch them down on top at 1/4" to reinforce the seams. (Like they do on jeans seams). op en end of the envelope to slide the plywood For EE, fold one of the 19" sides 1" for the top open into. Top stitch this edge down. Fold and press all the remaining remaining 3 edges in 1/2"; center onto piece DD and top stitch 1/4" around the remaining 3 sides. DO NOT SEW THE FIRST SIDE washin g and cleaning. This really just DOWN, you want to be able to take out the plywood for washing gives you a pocket to hold the plywood in. Since the Traveler does not have a flat base, this is necessary for the stability of the bag. 1 2" sides 1" for the top open end. Top stitch along this edge. Fold and For FF, fold one of the 12" press all the remaining 3 edges in 1/2"; place on the Front AA or Back and top to p stitch 1/4" around the remaining 3 sides. Trust me, you want to do this while you have AA unattached u nattached to the rest of the bag.

For K , fold the long sides in 3/4" on both sides and then fold in half; this will give you a strip that measures 1 1/2" x 36"; top to p stitch both sides of this strip 1/4". Cut in half for two 18" x 1 1/2" handles. For BB, fold the left side of the long edge in 1 1/2". 1 /2". This will now make your strip 8" x 85". For CC, fold the right side of the long edge in 1/2". This will now make your strip 7" x 85". Carefully measure along the top 3 edges e dges of AA; this does NOT include the bottom 20". Cut BB and CC to this measurement.
Now you need to attach the Zippers. Find the place where strip CC meets in the center of the 7" at the top of AA, measure down about abo ut 2" from that spot on both sides and start pinning your zipper to this edge. You want the teeth to be right at the folded 1/2" edge. Top stitch it down 1/4" in from the folded edge. On BB, you will pin the other side of the zipper along the raw seam that was turned in 1 1/2". This gives you an overlap, just like in a real zipper that you put in a dress. THE END OF THESE ZIPPERS SHOULD NOT go all the way to the b ottom of your strip. You will need them to be about 2" from the ends of these th ese strips, otherwise, you will NOT be able to connect and unconnect the zipper without difficulty. Now, pin the handles K to either side of the 7" top of AA; repeat for other AA and K handle. Now, sew BB to one of the AA's; then sew CC to the other AA. Now attach the resulting piece to the Bottom Base DD. Enjoy!
