ICJ Rep 23, July 22, 1952 Anglo – Iranian Oil Co. Case: UK vs. Iran Compan! "his a!"s: In April 1933, an agreement was concluded between the Government of Iran and the Anglo – Iranian Oil Compan! granted the compan a #$%ear license to mine oil in $,$$$ s'uare (ilometers of Iran in return for a percentage roalt! In )arch, April and )a of 19*1, laws were passed in Iran, enunciating the principle of nationali+ation of the oil industr in the countr and establishing procedure for the enforcement of this principle! "he nited -ingdom alleged that the Iranian Oil .ationali+ation Act of 19*& was counter to a convention agreed upon b the Anglo – /ersian Oil Compan 0now /2 and Iran in 1933! On )a , 19*1, the - too( Iran to the International Court of ustice, demanding that the 1933 agreement be upheld and that Iran pa damages and compensation for disrupting the -% incorporated compan4s profits! Iran averred that the IC does not have 5urisdi ction over the matter!
