THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN NETWORK CHALLENGE
The World’s
6th largest land mass 9th lowest population density
DENSE CITIES SMALL REGIONAL TOWNS REMOTE/INHOSPITIBLE
REQUIRE DEPTH & CAPACITY REQUIRE LOCAL COVERAGE AND BREADTH REQUIRE BREADTH OF COVERAGE
LOW BAND SPECTRUM UNDERPINS OUR NEEDS Telstra Unrestricted
OUR MOBILE NETWORK AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST HYBRID HSPA+/LTE NETWORK 2.3 MILLION KM2 COVERAGE
Plus over 1 Million km 2 out to sea.
99.3% POPULATION COVERAGE
Largest Coverage More Reliable Speeds
99.3% HSPA+ (85% DC-HSPA)
85% 4G LTE, No requirement for 2G
HIGH PERFORMING NETWORK
Fewer Dead Spots Fewer Drop Outs
Multi-Gigabit capable Ethernet fibre to sites covering >93% of population.
Well under 1% voice drop rate
World’s largest HD Voice footprint (circuit voice)
Low band 850 MHz HSPA for wide and deep coverage, future APT700 to deliver similar for 4G.
HIGH PERFORMING BUSINESS
Low churn rate

WHY IS ATP700 A GOOD CHOICE FOR AUSTRALIA & OTHER NATIONS? BACKGROUND •
Telstra and Telecom New Zealand jointly developed a detailed proposal for the APT700 which was ultimately adopted by APT administrations, and adopted by the ACMA.
•
With adoption by other nations there is a potential APT700 market of over 2 Bn people.
•
Telstra acquired 2 x 20 MHz of APT700 at auction in May 2013.
BENEFITS OF THE APT700 BAND & PLAN •
The frequency of operation (sub 1 GHz providing greater breath & depth of coverage).
•
Efficient spectrum utilisation offering a contiguous 45MHz (2 x 45MHz for FDD operation)
•
Large Global adoption (leading to a substantial ecosystem and scale for devices and network infrastructure). LTE chipset manufactures have already released chipsets supporting APT700 Band 28 in 2013, with device manufactures to follow.
•
Leading roadmaps LTE Advanced (LTE-A) Cat 6 network and devices are already committed utilising APT700 and 1800MHz bands, other combinations will readily follow. Telstra Unrestricted
We have been working to assist the APT700 Ecosystem evolution Growing the APT700 Ecosystems for Australia & the World is about sharing information and educating Operators, Vendors & Regulators about the benefits through; - Partnering with GSA & GSMA, Huawei & other vendors/partners - Coordinating Industry white papers on APT700 - Promoting APT700 at international events (ITU, BBWF, GSMA) - Promoting world first calls and devices - Being active on APT700 groups eg LinkedIn APT LinkedIN World’s First APT700 Call
