Lesson 2: Performing Mensuration and Calculation
September 4, 2015
CONTENT STANDARD Demonstrate understanding of/on: System of measurement English Metric Converting the unit ofmeasurement from English to Metric and vice versa The Multi Tester Proper Care and Maintenance How to read the scale
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
Measuring tools and instruments are selected/ classified as per object to be measured on job requirements. Measurements are obtained according to job requirements. Computation of resistance, current, and voltage using Ohms Law are obtained.
Learning Outcome: At the end of this module, you, as a learner are expected to… LO 1. Select measuring tools and instruments; and LO2. Carry out measurements and calculations.
Topic: System of Measurements

Part 1 (What to Know) Converting Metric System to other unit of Metric system Converting Fraction to decimal Converting English System to Meric System ACTIVITY What Do You Already Know (Pretest LO2 pp 57-58) Guide learners in assessing their knowledge using: Paper and pencil test Check their answers using the answer key. ANALYSIS Based on the objectives of the lesson and results of the assessment given, let the learners identified the different units and follow the correct way of converting. ABSTRACTION

by themselves. For example, people measure shorter distance on the ground with their feet. They measure long distances by their palms which is equal to a yard. Inch Yard Miles 2. Metric system is a decimalized system of measurement. It exists in several variations with different choices of base units. Metric units are widely used around the world for personal, commercial and scientific purpose. Millimeter Centimeter Decimeter Meter B. English units and each equivalent 12 inches = 1 foot(ft) 1 yard = 3 feet 1 yard = 36 inches C. Metric units and each equivalent 10millimeter (mm) = 1centimeter (cm) 10centimeter = 1decimeter(dm) 10 decimeter = 1meter D. English to metric equivalent 1 inch = 2.54 cm 1 foot = 30.48 cm 1 yard = 91.44 cm The inch graduation 0 1/8 1/4 3/8 1/2 5/8 3/4 7/8 1 inch
1/16 3/16 5/16 7/16 9/16 11/16 13/16 15/16 Converting the unit of measurement from English to metric and vice versa Example: 1. 12 inches = ________ cm Cancel the common unit and apply Since cross multiplication. 12 inches = 2.54 cm 1 inch 12 x 2.54 cm Perform the indicated operation. Therefore: 12 inches = 30.48 cm 2. 6 feet = ________ inches Since 6 feet = 12 inches 1 feet 6 x 12 inches 1 Therefore: 6 feet = 72 inches
