When the method is called Complete Vocal Techni1ue it refers to the idea that the techni1ues cover all the sounds the human voice can produce! The method is not perceived as complete in the sense, that there is no room for improvement! (esearch is ongoing and techni1ues are updated regularly! The goal of Complete Vocal Institute is to e5plain the voice in a simple and understandable manner and ensure
that the desired sounds are produced in a healthy %ay so that the singers avoid damage to their voice! Teachers are trained in identifying the singers' learning type and adapting the tuition after each singer! There is a large age spread among the singers at the teacher education and they come from the >ordic countries and 7urope! There are also trained teachers from countries such as 7gypt, "hilippines and B&@! @fter graduating as a CVT2teacher their typically teach at conservatories, universities, theaters, studios, music schools and privately! =ackground and research The education system used on CVI is created by Cathrine &adolin! 6ue to asthma from childhood she received singing lessons to control her breathing! =ecause of the illness, she had to develop her o%n techni1ues to produce the desired sounds! er first step %as to understand the body and the vocal physiology and she e5perimented %ith producing the desired sounds in other %ays than the already kno%n methods! Through research of the anatomy and physiology and all types of singers, she found out that there is an underlying structure behind the sounds that a human can do! This %as divided into four different modes that cover all the sounds the human voice can produce! &he %orked also %ith a range of professional singers to try out the techni1ues, %hen they %anted to produce specific sounds or had problems %ith their voice! The %ork formed the basis for the techni1ues Complete Vocal Institute currently uses and Cathrine &adolin has continued the voice research together %ith physicians and acousticians! Cathrine &adolin has been invited to speak in the voice conferences in 7urope and B&@ since DD?! In *++9, she started to collaborate %ith consultant 7>T &urgeon Julian Ec8lashan from >ottingham Bniversity ospital! Their first oint research study %as published in February *++9 on auditive research, %here speech therapists had to determine %hich voice modes %as used by listening to song samples! @fter that they cooperated to sho% the laryngeal gestures in the various effects e!g! distortion, gro%l, grunt, creaks and creaking, rattle, &cream, vocal breaks, etc! &ince then they have %orked %ith visual detection, %here test subects had to determine the different singing modes %ithout hearing the sound, but by looking at photos and videos of the laryn5 during singing, recorded %ith an endoscope camera! The camera is led in through the nose so it can record the vocal folds and laryn5 movements during singing! Furthermore 788 measurements %here electrodes are placed on the laryn5 to record the vocal movements during singing and speaking are used to detect the various vocal modes! Currently )*+*- Cathrine &adolin and Julian Ec8lashan are researching the terminology used in describing singing and the use of the voice! Together %ith sound specialist 7ddy =! =ri5en )from 6"@- and 7==2consult, there is
