INTRODUCTION The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi is an independent public business school established on May 1963 by the Government of India (Ministry of Commerce and Industry) to help professionalize the country's foreign trade management & increase exports and internationalization of the Indian economy The Institute has nearly 54 years of existence and it is widely recognized for its practical knowledge and research based study. The institute has very rich heritage and strong alumni network in whole world. IIFT contribute in the foreign trade sector of India. Institute offers Master of Business Administration in International Business. 6.1.1. LOCATION IIFT is located in IIFT Bhawan, B-21, Qutab Institutional Area, New Delhi. New Delhi which is a capital of India and adjacent to Haryana, U.P.

6.1.2. ACCESSIBILITY Since the IIFT is located in Delhi, it is convenient to reach there as Delhi possess good connectivity by all means because it is capital of India.
By Bus
The nearest bus depot is Hauz Khas Bus Terminal, Road to DTC Bus Terminal, Vijay Mandal Enclave New Delhi and 2.9 away from IIFT, QIA. The nearest bus stop is Katwaria Sarai stop just 1 km away from site. From there need to hire auto or by walk.
By Train
Delhi has a high railway traffic as it is a capital of India, so trains from everywhere have their way to Delhi. The nearest interstate railway station is Delhi Cantt railway station about 14.7 km away and intrastate nearest railway station Safdarjung Station, New Delhi, railway station around 6.8 Km. The current IIFT is just 3.8 km (8 min by car) from Hauz Khas metro station, New Delhi
By Air
Delhi also poses high air traffic with daily flights to Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, so it is very convenient to reach Delhi through air means. The nearest airport is the indra Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi which is nearly 10.3 km from IIFT, QIA
6.1.3. CONTEXT 6.1.3.1 Site surroundings
The campus is just 3.8 km (8 min by car) from Hauz Khas metro station. Campus is surrounded by Karmapa International Buddhist Institute , FORE School of Management, Rehabilitation Council of India, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), Ministry of Finance, Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research, and ridge etc.

6.1.3.3 Climate
The temperature ranges from 45’ C to a minimum of 4’C the diurnal variation of temperature is substantial (20 to 25’C for the most part of year but is dampened during monsoon season).
Winds are hot and dusty during the day period monsoon winds are fairly strong and steady.
The weather becomes milder during the monsoon (period July to September). The post-monsoon months October and November constitute a transition period, prior to the onset of winter .

The Site was Constructed in two phase. In phase 1 a block 1 (Administration block), Hostel-1and Staff Quarters were built and in phase 2 Block -2 (Academic block), Guest house, Hostel-2, recreation facilities, and mess were built.
The site is connected with two secondary roads from the front and back side of the site.
The admin block is not aligned with main road having green space in frontage and boys hostel is aligned to road placed after setback which is situated other side of the site and accessible through secondary road.
This “ T ” represent the circular entrance porch to admin block (also called Top of the world). Under the top of the world, there is a sculpture called wings of wisdom.

Site Strength
After visiting and analyzing the site it provides a feel of two separate si tes or broken site which make the site week. For an institute building, it would be preferable to have a continuous site. And, the site is connected with two approach road which provides more frontage to the site.
The main strength of the is its location having good connectivity from all mode of transport.

6.1.4.2 Circulation Plan
1. Vehicular Movement

The campus has main three entry/exit to site two are from front road and one from the rear road.
Admin block has a main entry in lower ground and secondary on the upper ground from the top of the world and the Academic block has an entry from the ground floor.
In campus, main traffic enters from entry no. 1 on front road and entry no. 3 on the rear road, entry no 2 was mainly closed only accessible on special occasions or in an emergency.
The movement of the car on campus is good but there is a parking problem. They use basketball court as parking space in working hours (9 am to 7 pm).

The architect tries to encourage the pedestrian movement on campus.
There is two pedestrian entry in the admin block, first from under the top of the world which take you to lower floor reception area. And entry to admin block is on top of the world which take you to the upper floor directly.
Academic block has directly pedestrian entry on the ground floor. All the spaces are accessible for pedestrian movement but disable may get some trouble. Some places are not accessible for physically disabled persons.

6.1.4.3 Spatial Arrangement
1. Parking:
campus, there is two type of parking one is in the basement of boy’s hostel and other is surface.

There is no sufficient parking on campus, the Basketball court is used as a surface parking space for administration block staff.
There is enough shortage of parking that users have to park their cars on the service road on campus.
2. Administration Block:
Administration block was constructed in phase 1 as the whole site was developed in two phases.
Administration block includes conference rooms, auditorium, library, computer labs, admin offices, syndicate rooms etc.
The building is designed according to sun path, the angles provided to the walls hexagonal grid was followed to have a surface which can allow maximum glare-free daylight in building and skylights are provided to get maximum daylight.
Administration block has an iconic entry from entrance porch having a sculpture of “wings of Wisdom”. The main entry of building is from the lower ground though entrance porch.

The entrance porch roof act as the secondary main entry of administrative block on the upper ground floor. And the entrance porch roof “Top of the world” also act as gathering and interactive space

Administration block has triple height atrium and grand reception which create a world class and fantasy space for an auditorium, conference room, Offices etc. and Skylights are provided in different parts of buildings.

Offices in the administration are designed around the double loaded corridor to minimize the circulation area.

3. Library:
Situated in the administration block occupying two floors in the block having 84000 volumes and 600 journals’.
As it is situated in admin block it causes maximum student interference in admin block.
And the library is facing towards the main vehicular moving road and parking space which create a disturbance for the readers.
The position of the library in the building is north east which causes colder in winters and more hot in summer.
4. Academic Block:

Academic block is constructed in phase 2 including with boy’s hostel, guest house, indoor recreation facilities, and mess.
Same as the concept of block one academic block also follow t he hexagonal grid concept.
All the spaces are placed in such way to get a maximum surface for window and organize around a central atrium.

All the spaces are placed along the central atrium and classroom are placed in the southeast. So, that in winters classroom didn’t get much cold and provided chajha to cut down the direct sunlight in classrooms, making classroom leviable and proper sunlight.

The staircases are placed appropriate,
equally
from
the
center
so,
that
easily
approachable in an emergency.

furniture allows great conversation and inclusive interaction which fulfilling the main objective of interaction as shown in fig. 6.1. 16..

Aesthetically use of structure system in a building which complements the spaces enhance the beauty of the building.
All the services are designed in the dead corner of buildings and hidden with jali and sky lights are used in buildings to provide natural light inside.

Third Floor
The conference hall is designed in such a manner that they can use as more space for sitting.
Architect utilizes the whole space efficiently he didn’t waste any space in negative space.
Hexagonal shape grid is used in building to provide space for fenestration and can get maximum sunlight.

6.1.5. MATERIALS
The boundary wall of campus is made up of stone masonry walls.
Stone cladding working is done on the exterior façade of the building and internal walls are made up of R.C.C and brick.
Wooden finishes are used in Auditorium, Classrooms, Atrium roof at admin block and reception area and railing in the staircase.
Concrete jail is used to hide the services.
Marble flooring is done in building and mosaic tile used on columns.
6.1.5. INFERENCES
The classroom was designed in such a manner that students get sunlight from the left side so, that he/she get shadow free light while reading.
The Sitting of the library is also designed in such manner that reader gets sunlight from left and get shadow free light.
Structure and services should be used in such way that it complements the building use them aesthetically.
Spaces were designed according to the relation between space and user or relation with other adjacent space.
Spaces should be designed neat and simple that minimum wastage of space will come.
