Students will also learn how to put this information into a more pratial ontext by learning how to use maps, how to alulate distane, and the importane and use of digital maps. This unit not only only helps the students students learn learn about where where they live, but also how to interpret information in the form of various types of maps and apply it to their own lives. These are lifelong skills whih the students will en$oy learning and using.

The e!ets of weather are also explored as well as the ways in whih weather is measured and represented. /e all experiene limate and weather+ this unit will help the students understand and desribe these natural phenomena. The %nal part of the unit deals with the e!et of humans on the weather, and limate hange. The students will learn that we too a!et the environment, and what we an do to redue this impat. VALUES AND ATTITUDES In this unit the students will learn about the weather, and limate, two fators whih in0uene the way humans live all over the world. They will learn about gathering data, and how to interpret the results in a meaningful and relevant way. They will study how elements suh as relief and altitude a!et the limate, and how plants and animals adapt themselves to the limate 1ones. They will read about the auses of global warming through the aumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and they will hypothesise on the possible e!ets of a global rise in temperatures. They will learn about the fators whih make eah region distint from eah other as well as those that they have in ommon. They will also learn about the governane of Spain, about demoray and how it funtions, the onstitution, the rights and obligations of both the government and the iti1ens of Spain, and the di!erent governing bodies. In addition, they will put their learning into pratie with demoray in the lassroom in the %nal setion of the unit.
VALUES AND ATTITUDES In this unit the students will learn about the politial and soial struture of Spain. They will study iti1en and government roles within the ountry and about the importane of the eletoral proess. The unit highlights the funtion of the di!erent bodies of the state, the role of regional government and most importantly, the role of the iti1en in governing a ountry.

UNIT 5 S"anish "o")la#ion In this unit the students will learn about the hanging patterns of population aross Spain. 3irstly they will learn to identify the di!erent groups within a population, and whih fators a!et the inrease and derease of ertain groups, and how population patterns are di!erent from one ountry to another. They will learn about the fators whih a!et emigration, internal migration and immigration, and how this has hanged the population of Spain in the last entury. VALUES AND ATTITUDES In this unit the students will apply the knowledge they learn in a pratial way and will learn to view migration patterns as a historial proess.

UNIT * E)ro"e This unit fouses on Europe as a physial and geographial entity and on the European Union as a politial and soial entity. The students will study the di!erent geographial features of Europe, and will also look at the population of Europe as a whole. This will revise the areas they studied in Unit & and Unit 4. They will then go on to study the European Union and its di!erent member states. ere they will onentrate on the di!erent aspets of the Union, inluding its di!erent symbols, and its institutions. The fous will be on the bene%ts whih being a member brings to the di!erent member states, enapsulated in the motto 5United in diversity". They will plae the Middle #ges in historial ontext and identify the de%ning harateristis of the preeding periods. Students will study the origins and development of the 7isigoth, Muslim and 8hristian ivilisations, their soial and eonomi organisation and politial development. They will learn about the most important partiipants and deisive moments in their existene, as well as their ultural legay. will learn about the uni%ation of Spain under the 8atholi Monarhs Isabel I and 3ernando II, their on)uest of -ranada and the politial reforms they introdued, inluding the establishment of the In)uisition and the expulsion of the 9ews. Students will study the auses and onse)uenes of the disovery of #meria, for example the searh for spies and the importation of new foods, as well as some of the key explorers and navigators of the time, suh as 8olumbus, 8ort@s, Magellan and i1arro. They will reognise the on)uest of #meria and the subse)uent boom in trade of preious metals and exoti produts as key fators in the growing power of Spain. They will learn about the organisation, expansion and development of the Spanish empire under 8arlos I and 3ilipe II. They will learn about the ost of the Thirty Fears" /ar and the
resulting loss of territory, inluding ortugal, as well as the auses and onse)uenes of other key events suh as the expulsion of the Morisos and the Spanish /ar of Suession. Students will study the two main artisti styles of the period, identifying the de%ning harateristis of =enaissane and Baro)ue art and lassifying famous examples, as well as exploring the ideas and in0uene of the Enlightenment. They will also onsider the soial ine)uality depited in, and the politial message behind, the works of artists and writers from the -olden #ge.
