Who Was Bix? Full Name: Leon Bismark Beiderbecke (born March 10, 1903) - Played cornet but also piano - Learned to play largely by ear - Died when he was 28 from problems with alcohol - Viewed as one of the jazz legends doomed to a tragic end
Why did he play like that? -Bix was a very melodic player. He played "sweet jazz." -Sweet jazz was a style that was mellower in tempo and in solo content than Hot jazz. -Bix was a player who rarely played fast, or went up to the altissimo range.
