Surface Preparation The life-span and performance of coating is directly related to the degree of surface preparation IRON / STEEL • Ensure that all loose mill scale and rust must be removed by abrading with abrasive paper or suitable mechanical tools, if blast cleaning is not practical • Surface should be dry & free from all contaminants • Where necessary, remove weld spatter and round off all rough weld seams and sharp edges to a smooth surface ALUMINUM / COPPER / GALVANIZED METAL SURFACE • Degrease with cleaning T-66 thinner, abrade lightly • Ensure that surface is clean & free from all contaminants • Apply one coat of ‘Berger Two Pack Wash Primer’
Priming • • •
One or two coats of Robbialac red oxide primer are applied by brush/roller or spray before or after fabrication and erection depending on project requirements Ensure that maximum film build should obtained and all small parts, edges, angles, nuts, bolts etc. must be fully coated For galvanized metal or aluminum, one coat of Robbialac primer required on substrate
Over-Coating • • •
This primer should be over-coated as quickly as possible with additional finishes This primer must to be over-coated with conventional Protecton products such as Berger Ferrolux MIO, Robbialac Aluminum, Synthetic Undercoats and Alkyd Glossy finishes In case of Galvanized surface or metal sprayed steel, prepare surface as given above and after that apply one or two coats of Anti-Corrosive Red-1035 primer (and finishing)
