About the writer
My name is Jan-Willem Zuyderduyn and I have been creating designs as long as I remember. I studied Product Design & Engineering in the Netherlands. I won the 3rd price in the SolidWorks Design Contest to design the ultimate sports car twice. (SolidWorks Design Contest Benelux in 2007 and SolidWorks 3D Challenge Europe in 2008). Currently, I work as an automotive designer in Eindhoven, the Design city of the Netherlands. I have been asked many times how to model and render 3D models using SolidWorks. So, since I also enjoy designing websites I thought, why not create a website that shows my SolidWorks modeling and render process and bundle it into a complete SolidWorks tutorial package? I wish you all the luck and hope you'll learn a lot of my tutorials!
Best regards,
Jan-Willem Zuyderduyn Designer and owner of SolidWorks Model.com

Design process SolidWorksModel treated only the 3D modeling process of a chopper. But when you
create a design it’s important to make some hand sketches first. You could use these hand sketches as under-layer in SolidWorks or just use them to strengthen your own visual imagination about a design. There are a number of well known and not so well known steps and techniques that a designer can employ to make them a better sketcher. One important tip when sketching is to let go of your controlling conscious mind. Sketches are generally used as a way to generate ideas and record images for later use. Although some sketches have been sold for a lot of money, this is normally when an designer is so well known that even their rough ideas command a great price. A sketch can be done in almost any media, however it normally refers to a dry media such as a pencil. There are many things you can do as a designer to help you to create the best sketches possible.
It is always a good idea to find yourself a good comfortable position in a nice quiet location, somewhere you can let yourself go. Make sure that your tools are at your disposal, whatever they may be. It is important to think about shapes and relationships between shapes as your initial markings could maybe end up as a masterpiece design. Take light strokes and be gentle at first with the image in your head. You are allowed to use an eraser while sketching, some people seem to think that sketching doesn’t involve correction, but most artists continually self correct their mistakes. Having a good and sharp pencil or equivalent can also make your life so much easier as you may not make as many mistakes. | Page
The number one most important thing you can do to make yourself a better sketcher
is to get out of your own way, that’s right, the simple act of thinking less can lead to much greater results. Art is a right brain activity and by letting go of your reasoning and controlling functions you can develop better spatial relationships and a better sense of shape and scale. In order to reach this place you need to be in a relaxed situation and in a relaxed place, with everything you need right at your fingertips. Then let go, take it slowly at first, and start you first steps to becoming the best sketcher and designer you can be.

If you want to improve your hand drawing sketch skills, SolidWorksModel recommend
sketch book ”Design Sketching” to you. Design Sketching is an innovative new sketch technique book that has become a highly regarded resource for designers, students and Universities throughout the world. Rather than taking the traditional theoretical approach, it aims to teach and inspire by displaying a broad collection of sketches encompassing the entire design process.
Twenty-four talented students from the Umeå Institute of Design, one of Europe’s best design schools, have contributed to the diverse material in the book. Work has been selected from the different areas of the Institute, resulting in a unique collection of sketches representing a large number of different product designs. Design Sketching could help you to develop your sketching skills and serve as an invaluable tool for inspiration.
