'he $nited States has strived much more than other countries to uphold the honor of democracy. (ut& #hat exactly is democracy) A%raham *incoln popularly called democracy a system of government %y the people& for the people. In many #ays& democracy is +ust that. 'hrough an efficient and relia%le method of voting and elections& the leader of a nation is chosen. 'he people are given a choice of #hom to choose to run their country& and therein lies the essence of democracy, freedom of choice. And that is #hy the $nited States has so insistently held on to this notion for hundreds of years. 'he %iggest advantage of having h aving a democratic system is freedom for the people. 'he people are free to choose #homever they #ant. 'hey are not %ound %y monarchies or Imperial la#s. 'hey are not forced to serve under feudal lords& or ruthless dictators. 'hey are free to choose #ho they #ant to run their country. 'hey can even choose an o rdinary man li-e themselves. It is true that many monarchies and dictatorships are very prosperous& and they do a lot to help their people& %ut in essence they are faulty. 'he #orld is not meant to %e ruled %y one person alone. illions of people should not expected to co#er at the #hims of +ust one person. It is possi%le that the dictator may have their %est interests at heart& %ut #hat if he hasn/t) 'hat is a fearful thought indeed. 'he people #ould have no choice& %ut to %o# % o# to the atrocities that the dictator #ill commit. In this #ay& democracy is a savior of the common man. 0ith democracy& the common man has a say. e receives the right to alter the decisions ta-en in his country he %ecomes eual to the leaders #ho are running the country.Democracy also ensures a group voice as far as government decisions are concerned. 4o influential people are allo#ed to s#ay the d ecision in their favor they have to a%ide %y the universal ma+ority of votes. the $nited States is one shining example of a successful democracy. 5or hundreds of years& the democratic system has ensured that the voice of the common man %e heard& and a%ided& and that has %rought the $nited States to the precipice of supreme po#er. po#e r. Similarly& Similarly& India is another country that has excelled in promoting democracy. Although there have %een a fe# hiccoughs& 6a-istan has also managed to pull through& and portray itself as a ma+or democratic country. 'he
clean and clear voting system of 6a-istan ensures that the leader #ith national acclaim ascends the seat of po#er. 0hile a democracy has a host of advantages& there are some disadvantages too. 5irst& it is possi%le to manipulate the voting system. 0ith paper %allots and voting machines& there al#ays remains a margin of err& %ut even #orse& it is possi%le to change them to ma-e sure that the more corrupt leader #ins. In addition to that& de mocracy often suffers due to the indecision of the 6arliament or "ongress. 'his is especially true to glo%al emergency cases #here the gov ernment cannot act unless it gets approval from its 6arliament& and the 6arliament or "ongress sometimes doesn/t assent. 'hus& in such cases& the democratic system comes to a grinding halt. 'hus& loo-ing at the a%ove arguments and examples& it is reasona%le to assume that the democratic system is among the %est in the #orld& and although it has its demerits& the advantages far out#eigh them. Democracy should %e the governmental system of choice for every country
