Why Do We Need Auto ID Generation
Impossible to key in unique ID for each record in each application.
Data stored must have a unique ID to be identified easily
Auto ID Generation In T24
An application that supports auto id generation will have its name specified in the field PGM AUTOM ID in the COMPANY record
Auto ID Generation In T24
An application that supports auto id generation will have an entry in the application AUTO.ID.START
Contains the starting number (first ID to be used)
The start number (ID START) never changes
The new number generated is updated in the LOCKING application and is incremented to obtain the subsequent numbers
Records in this application are company specific

Content of FBNK.CUSTOMER record in LOCKING application. 100186 is the last generated customer number
When a request to obtain a new customer record is issued by the user, note that a record with ID 100187 has been created. Value obtained by performing 100186 + 1
Content of FBNK.CUSTOMER record in LOCKING application. 100187 is now the last generated customer number

To make Auto ID generation mandatory, suffix application name with M in the COMPANY record
Modes Of Generating A New ID
Click the NEW icon when application is launched

Ctrl + F+ Enter in Classic Mode of T24
Crucial Note
Some contract based applications, allow manual id input as well
LOCKING is not updated with the ID generated manually
Using New ID Icon
By typing in 200 in the ID prompt
Existing Records
Use of the New ID Icon will follow the old sequence
What if the sequence approaches an id that was already generated manually and a record exists?
The existing record is displayed to the user instead of a new blank record
