Undertake primary and secondary research in audience demographics for horror lms and present this as a report. Age - All flms, especially within the horror genre, upon release release have a certifcate rom the British Board o Film Classifcation. This certifcate determines what age the flm is deemed suitable or. The content in a flm can aect it!s flm certifcate.
"ithin the horror genre, violence, dangerous behavior, strong language, e#treme horror, blood and gore and on occasion drug use and scenes o se#ual nature, are recurring topics. Because o this age certifcations range between $% &$%A', $(, $) and *$). +t is rare rare or a flm to be *$) rated but the flms with this certifcate are usually banned or legally-restricted. ost horror flms usually have certifcates $( or $). Target Target audiences audiences or horror horror flms are are usually aimed aimed at viewers viewers between $(-%( years o age, this is because the plot and themes appeal more to the younger generation. *easons or this are the act that this age range are more liely to be thrill seeers than that o any other age. Also because o other media products such as video games and television shows, audiences within this age range are liely to be less susceptible to being put o by the e#treme violence and unnatural images. This is called desensiti/ation. Gender - 0orror flms are suitable or both genders and both are oten part o desired target audience, however the genre does appeal more to the male demographic than women. This is because the e#treme violence and threat o danger is more appealing to males than emales, again because the male demographic or more liely to play violent video games than women. 1n the other hand not all women are put o by some o the content included in the genre. Females also en2oy the suspense and threat o e#treme violence in horror flms. A possible actor as to why the genre is more male orientated would be that women are more maternal than men, meaning that seeing a child that is either in danger or portrayed to be evil can sometimes be more disturbing to them than it would be to a male viewer. Social class - 0orror flms are usually aimed at audiences within classes 3 -C$. This is because the woring class are more liely to be satisfed with these types o flm than audiences o a higher social classifcation. Audiences in group B or above, watching a horror flm are more liely to watch a subgenre flm rather than mainstream genre because o the level o
satisaction they would receive and because subgenres would be more liely to appeal to their particular flm tastes. Groups of audiences - The types o audiences that the horror genre attacs are groups o riends, amilies and couples. This is because watching a horror flm with riends, amily members or a boyriend4girlriend, oers the viewer comort and the eeling o protection. For e#ample, 5aety in numbers. 6iewing horror flms with another4group also acts as a good conversation starter.
1ver all the demographic or horror flms would be both emales and males ranging between $(-%( years o age, in social classes 3 through to C$. 1ne o the main reasons or this would be because audiences within these demographics are considered most liely to visit cinemas in order to watch these products.
