4 DEFINITI DEFINITIONS ONS For the purposes of this Standard the definitions below apply. 4.1 Spr Spray ay — sprayed mineral coating. 4.2 Adhesive Adhesive reten retention tion — use of an additional material to improve the bond of the spray to a substrate. 4.3 Mechanica Mechanicall retention retention — use of mechanical system(s) to retain the spray in situ. authority registered registered in accordance accordance with the relevant relevant building building 4.4 Registere Registered d testing testing authority authority — a testing authority regulations. 4.5 Standard Standard fire test test — the fire-resistance test specified in AS 1530.4. appropriate independent independent validation validation should should be provided as evidence evidence 5 INDEPENDENT VALIDATION The appropriate that the recommendat recommendations ions of this Standard Standard have been followed. followed. For many applicati applications ons particularly particularly those relating to building control, it will be necessary for the specifier, manufacturer or applicator to produce test reports from a registered testing authority to show that the required performance criteria can be achieved. Any changes in the spray system, i.e. primer, spray and surface finish, or its method of application may affect its performance. Ideally, performance tests previously carried out should be repeated to ensure that the level of performance is not affected. However, in practice this is not always possible because of the cost of some types of test, particularly fire-resistance tests complying with AS 1530.4, and because of the range of variables which may occur, e.g. raw materials may be obtained from several sources or a spray may be required required to be used with a large number of different different primers. Thus changes changes in the chemical chemical or physical nature nature of the compon component entss of the spray or their their relati relative ve propor proportio tions ns should should be the subject subject of a full full re-tes re-testt in accordance accordance with the appropriate appropriate performance Standar Standard d whilst whilst detail changes changes in the spray system system may be validated validated without without repeating repeating the appropriate appropriate performance performance test, test, using analytical analytical laboratory laboratory tests or reduced scale performance tests. It is important that any reduced scale tests can be shown to correlate with the appropriate performance performance Standard. Standard. In many cases the spray manufact manufacturer/s urer/supplie upplierr would be the only source source of this information. information. The justification justification for any assessmen assessmentt of changes changes in the spray spray system system should should be available available for inspection as appropriate.
