Presentation to Governing Body, UTTIPEC
Introduction • Indian Railways have identified five major railway stations to be developed to World Class standards • Anand Vihar Railway Station is destined to be a significant multi modal transit hub with multiple modes of transport culminating at a single location. • Traffic Impact and Connectivity proposals of the complex com plex are presented

• Karkarduma Transit Oriented Development • BRT • RRTS • Metro Phase -3 • Integrated passenger terminal
Traffic Impact Study and Transport Network Improvement • A comprehensive Traffic Demand study undertaken • Traffic Impact Assessment was done • Proposals of necessary transport infrastructure improvements for the redevelopment of Anand Vihar Railway Station are made – Multi-modal traffic Integration plan for category of modes – Road and junction capacity enhancement – Traffic circulation plan in and around the station area – Improved pedestrian access and dispersal plan – Parking management plan for all categories of modes
Existing Issues
ENTRY / EXIT FOR RAILWAY STATION
ANAND VIHAR METRO STATION EXIT FROM I.S.B.T
LOCAL BUSES INTERSTATE BUSES IDLE PARKING
ENTRY TO I.S.B.T
1.
CONGESTION on Road No. 56 (only approach road to Railw ay Station) due to singl e entry/exit to complex, pedestrian dispersal, Hawk ers and Station bou nd t raffic
2.
LONGER WALKING DISTANCES for passengers to i nterchange / dispersal .
Existing Issues Indirect Connection of Railway Station and ISBT
No direct connection Passengers commute through punctures in boundary wall – informal access Uncomfortable for women, children, elderly as well as travellers with heavy luggages
Where can I rest? Where is the comfort? Can we have a surface level crossing? Where is the SPACE ?
Existing Issues Unorganized IPT

However R OW of R oad is 60m and capacity can be increased to 5X2 lanes by rationalizing lanes & service lanes
Existing Issus : Complex Circulation
Internal Circulation
Existing Circulation – Car/2w Mixing up at various locations with Pedestrians causing conflict points
User Opinion Pedestrian Facilities Users complained that foot over bridge is too narrow of pedestrians moving on it in both directions, and most feel that it does not take them near their destination
Access to Station Commuters from the northern side of the Railway line (Karkardooma, Yojna Vihar) conveyed a need for direct vehicular connection to Anand Vihar

Traffic Impact Assessment Modelling • Delhi Transport Demand model was run for two scenarios – Do Nothing: Existing Network and Forecasted traffic of complex – Improved situation: with all new roads and connections
• Additional road connection are crucial for complex to cater to increased traffic requirements

Summary • To Handle the Traffic Load of Complex:
• Need additional links for multiple entry/exits and efficient traffic dispersal • Rationalisation of service lanes to achieve capacity of 5x2 lanes • Two Station entries ( additional entry from north) • Need additional loops/connections • Integrated Pedestrian Connectivity with sufficient capacity ( 6 to 12 m wide). • Clear & Simple one way circulation • Provision of pickup/drop off bays for car, taxi, auto , Bus NMT. • Adequate provisions for parking • Connectivity of East – West Corridor with complex
