1.G General eneral
The potable water tank is installed in the pressurized underfloor area RH behind the forward cargo compartment. Air, which is tapped from the bleed air cross-feed line, pressurizes it (Ref. AMM 38-41-00). An indication system monitors the quantity of water in the tank (Ref. AMM 38-
- the limit switch 5MP. When the door 171AL of the service panel 2023VU is opened, the limit switch 5MA switches on the quantity indicating system (Ref. AMM 38-13-00). When the control handle 3254MM is selected to the _DRAIN_ position it operates: - the fill/drain valve 16MA,- the limit switch 3MP. The limit switch 3MP is then energized and operates: - the motorized drain valve 14MP, - the motorized overflow/ventilation valve 8MP, - the motorized drain valve 4MP. When the control handle is selected to the _FILL_ position the limit switch 5MP operates the overflow valve 8MP.
5 . Operation A. Fill System (with Electrical Power ) You fill the water tank when the fill/drain valve 16MA is open. The valve opens when you turn the control handle on the potable water service panel from _NORMAL_ to _FILL_ and pull the control handle out. With the control handle pulled out to its stop, the fill/drain valve 16MA opens. The limit switch 5MP is energized and opens the overflow/ventilation valve 8MP and the contol light 6MP comes on. The maximum pressure required to fill the tank is 50 psi (3.4 bar). When the tank is full, the quantity transmitter closes the fill/drain valve. The control handle is automatically pulled in and returns to the normal position. In this position the limit switch 5MP is de-energized and closes the motorized overflow/ventilation valve 8MP. 6 . Operation A. Fill System (without Electrical Power ) You can also fill the water tank when there is no electrical power.To do so you must open the fill/drain valve 16MA and the overflow valve 8MP manually. To open the fill/drain valve 16MA you turn the control handle on the potable water service panel from _NORMAL_ to _FILL_.Then pull the control handle out to its stop. To open the overflow/ventilation valve 8MP you turn the control handle at the overflow and drain panel 192NB from _SHUT_ to _OPEN_. There are no indications that the valves are open.The maximum pressure required to fill the tank is 50 psi (3.4 bar). Whe the tank is full, you must close the valves manually again.
B. The potable water-distribution lines are insulated and electrically heated to prevent ice formation in and around the lines (Ref. 30-73-00).A water filter and a non return valve is installed in each lavatory.You get access to the water filter for servicing when you remove the toilet paper holder assembly (Ref. 38-12-23). Compressed air is used to pressurize the system to supply water from the tank to the necessary service locations.Compressed air is tapped from the cross feed line of the engine bleed air and is connected to the water tank air-inlet (Ref. AMM 38-41-00). Water Heater When you set the ON/OFF switch to ON the water heating element energizes(control light is on). When the water heats to a set temperature, a thermostat opens to remove the electrical power from the heating element.When the water temperature drops (usual heat decrease or as cold water replaces used hot water) the thermostat closes to energize the heating element again. The thermostat is set to open (GO OFF) when the water temperature increases to 48 DEG.C (118.40 DEG.F). It is set to close (COME ON) when the water temperature decreases to 45 DEG.C Rinse Valve The toilet rinse valve is solenoid controlled and is electrically operated. (Ref. AMM 3831-00). Water Filter The water filter which is installed in each lavatory has a housing and a disposable cartridge. The filter is installed between the potable water-shutoff valve and the water heater. The water filter cleans the water in the lavatory to drinking quality. Non Return Valve The non return valve is installed between the inlet and outlet line of each filter. It makes sure that the water flows first through the filter before it goes to the lavatory system.
System Operation The quantity transmitter 3MA, operates as a variable capacitor and uses the water in the tank as the variable component. Any increase of water in the tank increases the output signal, any decrease in water decreases the output signal. Two quantity indicators are supplied with transmitter output signal. The signal to the service panel indicator 6MA moves a pointer over a scale calibrated in increments of volume. The signal to the Forward Attendant Panel (FAP) LED indicator shows the percentage of volume if the panel pushswitch is pressed, (or the potable water service panel is open). The FULL indication light on the service panel will come on when the tank is full.The transmitter also has a low-level switch which opens when the water tank contents drop to a set level. When the low-level switch opens it disconnects the electrical supply to
the water heaters in the lavatories. The transmitter also has a high-level switch, which controls the operation of a relay to close the fill/drain valve 16MA. The high level switch will de-energize the relay to stop the filling procedure when the tank is full. The micro switch 5MA closes to energize the indicating system when the service door 171AL is opened for ground servicing. The micro switch 5MA isolates the indicating system when the service door 171AL is closed again. A membrane switch, identified by _IND ON_, is installed on the forward attendant panel. The membrane switch overrides the micro switch 5MA, if you push it in.
_ The toilet system gives sanitary facilities for the passengers and the crew. The system is a vacuum type toilet system and uses potable water for flushing. The waste is collected in one waste holding tank. When the tank is full, the liquid level transmitter stops the system operation.
The system uses potable water from the aircraft pressurized water system to flush the toilet. A vacuum drain removes waste from the toilet bowl to an underfloor waste holding tank. An electronic vacuum system controller controls the system and related electronic components.
(1) Bowl and Spray Ring The bowl is made of stainless-steel and has a nonstick coating applied to its inside surface. The spray ring is attached to the top of the bowl and connected to the antisyphon valve. (2) Water (Rinse) Valve The water (rinse) valve is solenoid controlled and is connected electrically to the flush control unit. It has a fitting for the aircraft system interface and a strainer. The outlet of
the valve is connected to the anti-syphon valve. (3) Anti-Syphon Valve The anti-syphon valve is installed above the toilet bowl and is connected to the water valve and the spray ring. It permits water to flow only in the direction of the spray ring and returns anyback-water to the bowl
(4) Flush Valve The flush valve is a motor-actuated self-contained unit. A duct connects the flush valve to the toilet bowl. The flush valve housing is a stainless-steel investment casting. Waste flows through a 2.0 in. (50.7999 mm) dia. molded and reinforced elastomer tube. The tube is fully open during the flush cycle. A motor-actuated pinch-knife closes and seals the tube between the flush cycles. The flush control unit controls the flush valve operation. A manual waste shutoff valve is installed on the downstream side of the flush valve. (5) Manual Waste Shutoff Valve The Manual Waste shutoff Valve (MWV) is installed on the downstream side of the flush valve. It is a back-up system to shutoff the flush line in case of a flush valve failure in the open position A handle accessible from the front of the toilet assembly activates the sliding mechanism inside the shutoff valve. (6) Flush Control Unit The flush control unit is an electronic assembly installed on the supporting frame of the toilet assembly. It is connected electrically to the: - Flush switch - Water (rinse) valve and screen - Flush valve - Vacuum system controller. The unit controls the time and sequence of the toilet operation during the flush cycle. Built-in-test Equipment (BITE), monitors the operation of the water valve, flush valve and its internal control board circuitry. Faults are transmitted to the vacuum system
