Sir Arthur Conan Doyle creator of Sherlock Holmes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is famous as as the writer of the Sherlock Holmes stories. He was born in Scotland in 1859 and as a young man attended Edinburgh University in order to study medicine. He worked as a doctor for several years, but when he was thirty-two he became a full-time writer. He wrote romances, adventure stories, and historical novels, but it was his detective stories which made him famous.
