The UNI are reviewed, when necessary, with the publication of new editions or updates. It is therefore important that users of these it is found to be in possession of the latest edition and any updates. The UNI are processed trying to take into account the views of all parties concerned and to reconcile every aspect con fl ittuale, to represent the real state of the matter and the necessary degree of consensus. Anyone who considers, following the application of this standard, can provide suggestions for its improvement or its adaptation to a state in evolution is requested to send their contributions to UNI, Italian National Agency for the Uni fi cation, that will keep them into account for the possible revision of the standard itself.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE
1
This European Standard speci fi c a method for the determination of the content of shells in coarse aggregates. It applies to gravel or mixed aggregate containing gravel. The test method speci fi ed in this part of this European Standard is applicable to particle size fractions d i / D t he , w here D the ≤ 63 mm and d the ≥ 4 mm. NoteF or size of aggregates with D > 6 3 mm and / or d < 4 mm, the test
may be performed on the fraction d i / D the
where D the ≤ 63 mm and d the ≥ 4 mm.

These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and publications are listed below. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS
For the purposes of this European Standard apply the definitions below: aggregate size: De fi nition of aggregate in terms of dimensions of the lower sieve ( d ) a nd greater than ( D ).
3.1
his de fi NoteT
nition accepts the presence of some particles which will be retained by the upper sieve (above
sieve) and some that will pass from the lower sieve (under sieve).
size class d i / D i:P ercentage of an aggregate passing through the largest ( D t he ) t wo sieves and retained by the smaller ( d t he ).
3.2
Note
The lower limit may be zero.
3.3
test sample: Champion used completely in a single test.
3.4
constant mass: successive weighings after drying carried out at a distance of at least 1 h that do not differ by more than 0.1%.
*)
National Note - The standard was published in 1999.
UNI EN 933-7: 2000
In many cases the constant mass can be obtained after drying of a test portion for a predetermined period in a speci fi c oven (see 5.3) at a t emperature of (110 ± 5) ° C. Laboratory tests will determine the time necessary to obtain a constant mass for particular types and sizes of samples, in relation to the drying capacity of the oven used.
3.5
shell: Outer shell of a mollusk.
4
PRINCIPLE
The test is to manually select shells and shell fragments from a coarse aggregate test sample. The shell content is determined as the ratio between the mass of the shells and fragments of shells relative to the mass of the test sample. The content of shells, SC ,I t is expressed as a percentage.
5
EQUIPMENT Unless otherwise speci fi ed, all equipment must comply with the general requirements of prEN 932-5.
5.1
Test sieves , with nominal size of the openings in accordance with EN 933-2.
5.2
Collecting vessel is cover w ith seal for the sieves.
5.3
Fan oven , thermostatically controlled to maintain a temperature of (110 ± 5) ° C, or equipment for drying the aggregate that does not cause any reduction of the particle size.
5.4
Weight scale or sized tool , of suitable capacity with accuracy of ± 0.1% of the mass to be weighed.
5.5
Trays
5.6
Brushes
5.7
Stacciatrice to sift , optional.
6
PREPARATION OF THE TEST PORTION
The sample must be reduced in accordance with the requirements of prEN 932-2. Dry the sample at (110 ± 5) ° C fi no to constant mass. Weigh and record the mass as M 0 . Sifting with appropriate test sieves, stirring vigorously suf fi cient to ensure the complete separation of particles larger than 4 mm. Discard the particles retained by the sieve test by 63 mm and those passing the test sieve 4 mm. If necessary, reduce the sample in accordance with prEN 932-2 to produce a test sample. Record the mass of the test sample as M 1 . T he mass of the test sample must be as speci fi ed in Table 1.

The reduction of the sample should produce a greater mass of the test sample of the minimum, but not equal to an exact predetermined value. Carry out the test on each granulometric class d i / D the w here D the ≤ 2 d t he . The samples in which D > 2 d T hey must be previously separated into grain size classes, d i / D t he , where D the ≤ 2 d t he .

METHOD
7.1
Test samples in which
D ≤

Stretch the particles of the test sample on a flat surface and manually separate the shells and shell fragments. Determine the mass of shells and shell fragments and record their mass M 2 .
7.2
Test samples in which
D > 2 d
Separate the test sample size classes d i / D t he , w here D the ≤ 2 d the s tacciando in accordance with EN 933-1. Record the mass of each particle size class as M the a nd calculate and record as V the t he percentage by mass of each particle size class d t he/ D the i n relation to the mass of the test sample M 1. Discard any size class d t he/ D the t hat includes less than 10% of M 1. Note 1 Each size class d the/ D the r emaining, which contains less
than 100 particles, should, if required, ES-
nights recorded in the test report. Note 2 The size classes d t he/ D the c ontaining an excessive number of particles can be further reduced in accordance with prEN 932-2. Note 3 The
particle size classes may be further reduced if they are constituted by a number signi fi cativa-
mind greater than 200 particles. Record the mass M first of the particles that are to be tested in each class remaining granulometric d t he/ D the a nd separating as described in 7.1. Record the mass M s econd of shells and shell fragments in each of these size classes d t he/ D t he.
