REMOVAL (1) Remove the upper suspension arm from axle. (2) Position Spacer 8279 over the axle bushing on a 4x2 vehicle and right side on a 4x4 vehicle. KNUCKLE DESCRIPTION
The knuckle is a single casting with legs m for the upper and lower ball joints. The knu h a s m a c h i n ed ed m ou ou n t i n g l o ca ca t i o n s f o r t h e c a l ip ip er er s a n d h u b b ea ea r i n g .
OPERATION
The steering knuckle pivot between the u l ow ow e r b a l l joi n t . S t e er er i ng ng l in in k a g e a t t a c h e knuckle allows the vehicle to be steered.
REMOVAL - STEERING KNUCKLE

INSTALLATION (1) Install the hub bearing to the knuckle. (2) I n s t a l l t h e h u b b ea ea r i n g t o k n uc u ck le le b ol ol t s a n d tighten to 102 N·m (75 ft. lbs.). (3) I n s t a l l t h e h u b w a s h er e r a n d n u t . Ti Ti gh gh t en en t h e h u b n u t t o 237 N ·m ·m (175 f t . l bs bs .) .). I n s t a l l t h e n u t retainer and a new cotter pin. (4) Insta ll t he brake roto rotor, r, caliper caliper an cho chor, r, caliper caliper and ABS wheel speed sensor,(Refer to 5 - BRAKES/ E L E C TR TR I C AL AL /F R O NT NT WH WH E E L S P E E D S E N S O R INSTALLATION). (5) Install the wheel and tire assembly. (6) Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

INSTALLATION
(1) Position the steering knuckle on the ball studs. (2) Install and tighten the bottom retaining nut to 109 N·m (80 ft. lbs.) torque. Install new cotter pin. (3 ) I n s t a l l a n d t i g h t e n t h e t o p r e t a i n i n g n u t t o 10 10 1 N·m (75 ft. lbs.) torque. Install new cotter pin. (4) Install the hub bearing and axle shaft. (5) C on on n ec ect t h e t i ee-r od od or d r a g l in in k e nd nd t o t h e steering knuckle arm. Refer to Group 2, Suspension, for proper procedures.

SPRING DESCRIPTION The coil springs mount up in the wheelhouse which is part of the unitized body bracket. A rubber doughnut isolator is located between the top of the spring and the body. The bottom of the spring seats on a axle isolator made of rubber with a steel insert.

(6) Lower the axle until the spring is free from the upper mount and isolator (Fig. 12). (7) Remove the spring from the vehicle. INSTALLATION (1) Install the upper isolator. (2) Install the lower isolator with the isolator locator nub in the axle pad hole (Fig. 13). (3) Position the coil spring on the axle spring pad.

STABILIZER BAR DESCRIPTION The bar extends across the front underside of the chassis and is mounted to the frame rails. Links are connected from the bar to the axle brackets. The stabilizer bar and links are isolated by rubber bushings.

CAUTION: Suspension components with rubber/urethane tha ne bus bushin hings gs sho should uld be tig tighte htened ned wit with h the veh vehiicle at normal ride height. It is important to have the springs supporting the weight of the vehicle when the fasteners are torqued. This will maintain vehicle ride comfort and prevent premature bushing wear.
WARNING WARN ARNING: ING: Sus Suspen pension sion com compon ponent ents s wit with h rub rubber ber bushings must be tightened with the vehicle at normal ride height. It is important to have the springs supporting the weight of the vehicle when the fasteners are torqued. (3) Pull the arm down on the ball joint stud and i n s t a l l a ne Tighten t he nut to 142 N·m (105 (105 new w nut. Tighten ft. lbs.). (4 ) I n s t a l l t h e p a r k b r a k e ca ca b l es es a n d b r a k e h o s e t o the arm. (5) Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.

(2) Align the installation reference marks made on the propeller shaft and pinion yoke. (3) Position universal joint into pinion yoke. (4) I n st st a l l t h e u n iv iv er er s a l joi n t cl a m p a n d cl a m p bolts to the pinion yoke. Tighten bolts to 19 N·m (14 ft. lbs.). (5) Lower the vehicle.
