DESCRIPTION & OPERATION INTRO(+CTION
Transaxle is electronically controlled with )orward speeds and o ne re*erse speed. Transaxle consists o) clutches+ mainsha)t+ countersha)t+ secondary sha)t+ shi)t control solenoid *al*es+ A,T clutch pressure control solenoid *al*es+ torque con*erter clutch solenoid *al*e and loc-"up torque con*erter. See Fig. , . Val*e body assemblies consists o) main *al*e body+ regulator *al*e body+ ser*o body and accumulator body. Transaxle shi)ting and torque con*erter loc-"up are controlled by the owertrain /ontrol Module (/M#. 0hen in 11 position+ 3rd and th gears+ or 131 position+ 3rd gear+ ge ar+ torque con*erter loc-"up exists and transaxle mainsha)t rotates at the same speed as en gine cran-sha)t. /M recei*es *arious input signals and operates torque con*erter clutch solenoid *al*e. 'perating torque con*erter clutch solenoid *al*e con trols modulator pressure. /M contains a sel)"diagnostic system+ which will store a iagnostic Trouble /ode (T/# i) a )ailure or problem exists in the transaxle electronic control system. T/ can be retrie*ed to identi)y transaxle transaxle problem area. 4or in)ormation on electronic transaxle components+ see $%TA 5A7'S5S or -XA (IA*NOSIS article. Transaxle is equipped with shi)t and -ey interloc- systems.
