Purpose This Technical Support Note document describes how to configure RX Diversity Sharing into use between the two NodeB.

4. SUMMARY This document describes how to configure RX Diversity Sharing in to use. This allows Rx diversity over two Flexi Multiradio RF-modules operating in the same frequency band. In this solution, the RX diversity is gained by cross connecting the RX main uplink signals led trough the RX out interface (located at the front panel of the Radio Module). Setting of the Additional RX Gain parameter is required in the BTS commissioning for the diversity antenna branches. Value of the Additional RX Gain parameter is depending on product variant of RF module.
5. SUPPORTED CONFIGURATIONS RX sharing capability of Flexi Multiradio RF-modules enables operators to reduce site complexity and site upgrade costs by reusing and leveraging the existing antenna system for an additional Node B. • • • •

Figure 1 System schematic of RX shared BTS site In this solution, RX main branch is provided for the Node B from TX antenna branches, whereas the RX diversity is gained by cross connecting the uplink signals led trough the RX out interface (located at the front panel of the Radio Module). With the RX diversity sharing same configuration principles are applying than with the common A-type BTS configuration. Below is a example of typical site HW configuration with RX diversity sharing.

Figure 2 Typical site HW configuration with RX sharing In RX diversity sharing all the uplink carriers of the cells must fit inside the RX bandwidth of Radio module, which for example is 20 MHz for FRGP (2100 MHz) and FXDA (900MHz). The restriction need to be taken into account when planning the carrier frequencies for the RX sharing BTS Site In case of a small margin in available frequency band, the Over ride nominal frequency of filter center –option in BTS commissioning can be utilized to fit the carriers to RX band.
6. CABLING INSTRUCTIONS RF cabling for the RX diversity sharing is cross fed from the Radio Modules’ Rx out interface to the other Radio Modules’ Rx div. The main antenna interfaces (TX/RX main) are cabled normally and also optical cables between system module and radio module are connected normally.

Figure 3 Cross connection cabling of RX div antenna connectors A cable kit has been prepared for implementing the required cross connections for RX Diversity Sharing, NSN product code 472454A RDSA Rx Diversity Sharing Kit 2m. The kit includes 6 cables and thus can cover the connections between two triple RFmodules i.e. three sectors.

6.1 Additional RX Gain parameter – compensation of additional LNA gain BTS commissioning is proceeded normally according to the used cabling and configuration, except the antenna line settings. The Additional RX Gain parameter is required to be set for each diversity antenna line receiving the uplink signal from RxOut interface of other BTS’s RF module. As illustrated in the block diagram below, the LNA in the Front End of RX Main branches produces already the needed high gain for the UL signal received from the antenna line. This additional gain provided by the other module is required to be compensated by the Additional RX Gain parameter for achieving correct calculation of reference level in UL. Additionally, setting the Additional RX Gain parameter enables the LNA in RX div branch to operate in a low gain mode.

6.1.1 Values for Additional RX Gain parameter – LNA gain of different RF module variants Operating range of LNA gain is depending on Flexi Multiradio RF Module variant. Therefore value for the Additional RX Gain parameter need be to set accordingly.

6.2 Commissioning of MHA settings Commissioning of MHA settings doesn’t differ in case of RX div sharing. Whenever there is a MHA used in the physical antenna feeder lines, commissioning of the MHA settings is required for the TX/RX main branch in both of the BTS.

6.3 RX Signal level monitoring It is recommended to activate RX Signal Level Monitoring feature for the BTS utilizing the RX diversity sharing. It is essential for verifying the installation and commissioning as well for monitoring signal level provided by the other NodeB and its’ antenna line.

6.4 Commissioning RX div sharing by defining the Virtual MHA Technical Note 144 describes commissioning of RX sharing with the older 3G BTS SW releases (WN6.0 MP3.x) where support of the Additional RX Gain parameter did not exist. This previous way of commissioning by using the Virtual MHA is not necessary and preferred any more. Whereas, commissioning with utilizing the Additional RX Gain parameter should be preferred whenever a new RX sharing site is configured, as it provides simpler, more straightforward and fault tolerating approach for defining the commissioning and plan parameters.
