Introduction Within the Jewish and Christian apocryphal and deuterocanonical books there are many interesting texts. Some are dreadfully slow going, and their apparent utility is not always obvious while some are so esoteric as to be practically impenetrable. Yet, it is those texts that contain some of the most interesting stories. One of these most enigmatic texts is that of the book of Enoch. Although it is referred to as one book, it is, in fact, a series of books. Enoch is a biblical character whose claim to fame, at least in the bible is that he never died, but was taken up to heaven whole. Few people in the biblical tradition can claim such honor. From the Old Testament or OT going forward, we have Elijah and of course the aforementioned Enoch. In Jewish tradition, there is some inkling that  perhaps after Moses was buried, he then ascended to heaven, some say he did while alive as well,  but those are just rumors. In the New Testament or NT going forward, after Jesus’ resurrection, it is presumed he was then taken up whole to the heavens. If I am forgetting someone, my apologies. So why is Enoch so special? Well, biblically speaking, it is not clear. All we know is that he was righteous in God’s eyes, and he was taken up to Heaven. There is no explanation at all. As it is customary in Judaism and the western biblical tradition in general, when there is a high level of  uncertainty and mystery as to what happened to a person or an unexplainable event, the void MUST be filled. The mind abhors a vacuum as they say. So, to explain some of these more enigmatic events, other books that are not in the accepted canon tend to appear to fill in the gap. One example from the NT is Jesus’ childhood; we don’t know much about it from the Gospels and then suddenly, viola; infancy gospels sprout up. These are valuable texts, and I don’t mean to imply they are not authentic, but they certainly do appear quite conveniently, and convincingly I might add. Many of these documents were written around the time the canonical gospels were; this leads me to believe there is some authenticity there.

This same concept applies to Enoch; we know so

little about him from the bible. The fact that he disappears from earth and into the heavens intact is very mysterious. We must know why this happened and more importantly; we need to know who Enoch was. The book of Enoch fills in these details and much more. At times, the books are slow going, but as they progress, we start to discover their true purpose. They give a comprehensive back story to much of the Old Testament book of Genesis. We do not only learn more about Enoch the man, but also many interesting things that took place during his time and times before history could ever recount and events yet to come. One of the many things that stick out in the Book of Enoch are the Watchers, the fallen angels, Grigori as some would call them. It goes into some detail as to their names and their functions and how they teach humanity various forbidden arts. Many magickal texts have been written around the watchers, and I am hoping to add my two cents

to the discussion. Several decades ago, I worked with the Watchers, so I hope to be able to add to this topic. In this book, I have resurrected my notes and will bring some elements forward to reflect current information. For example, any ritual suggestion will still include old elements I have used in the 80s, but I will bring it forward to reflect our latest advances, such as the ease of  obtaining incense and the like. This book will be extremely heavy in historical and textual analysis. I feel the Watchers are very interesting, and I have not yet found a comprehensive text on them. There are texts that deal with them, but they are very general OR they seem to focus on one narrative element. I will try to make my analysis of them as comprehensive as possible. The information is scattered around, I like to bring ideas together and that is what I will do here in this  book. I know many just want the magick but I would be doing many and myself an injustice without at least giving the history behind things. I am also a historian so that might be part of it. This is fun for me. Here is a glimpse of what will be covered in this book. Aside from the rituals of course, we will  be covering the basics of the Watchers' story as it is understood in Genesis since it is there that the first inkling of the story emerges in the scriptural tradition. I emphasis scriptural because there is evidence that some texts exist that predate Genesis that contain a Proto-Watchers narrative. Some of these early stories have some connection to Ancient Mesopotamia; we will discuss that as well.  We will, of course, cover the Watcher tradition in the various books of Enoch, that, I suppose, is a given. We will also discuss the Watcher tradition as it relates to texts outside the accepted canon. We will in addition, briefly cover some Watcher material in the Jewish traditions found in the Midrash and the Targumim, and so much more. I would like to mention, I am also writing this because my friend James Hunter-Ralston asked me to illuminate upon them, and I thank him for prompting me to do so and because of his prompting, this book is presented to you...We have a lot to cover, so let’s get started.

He Was Not For God Took Him “Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him”- Genesis 5:24 As we have established, Enoch was taken up into Heavens whole. Not much is known of Enoch in the bible. He was known as the son of Cain, Genesis 4:17-18. It also states in the text, Genesis 5:18 that he was the son of Jared, who was 162 years of age when Enoch was born. This was not unusual in the days of Genesis. Enoch himself was 365 years old when he “walked with God." As Biblical figures go, 365 years was quite young. Scholars seem to believe that both Enoch instances are referring to the same person, while others feel the latter is the Enoch in question. It is said that he was born in the Land of Nod, east of Eden. This indicates he may very well be the son of Cain, since Cain established the land of Nod after he killed Abel and was sent into exile. Enoch’s name is of uncertain origin, some have said that his name came from the root word for  “establish or dedication” in the western Semitic languages. This is interesting because the name Hanukkah, which is a Jewish holiday that often occurs in December, means Establish and or  Dedication and Enoch’s name and the word Hanukah have the same root. One could say this is not a coincidence because in Genesis 4:17, Enoch establishes the first city, do you see the connection with his name? Is that the reason he is named this? I am not sure we know 100%, but it is compelling. In either case, we see that not only was he ambitious enough to build the first city in human history, at least according to the bible, we know he was a righteous man as well. He was the only one to that point who had walked with God and then taken by him. That is as much as we know from the biblical tradition. There are kabbalistic mysteries surrounding Enoch, but this is not a Kabbalistic book by its nature. I will perhaps get more in depth in a future text. Let us now discuss, in brief, some historical elements of the Book of Enoch itself.

The Book of Enoch - A Brief History The book of Enoch has been dated around the second-century B.C, more specifically the Maccabean era. It is one of the most mysterious of the Pseudoepigraphal documents that we have. Despite Enoch being an Old Testament figure, the groups that gave the book of Enoch the most attention were Christian groups. Interestingly enough, they were also those to reject it most vehemently with the exception of some Christian churches in Ethiopia, I will explain why that is in a moment. One of the first indications that some early Christians adopted it is due to the mention of Enoch in the New Testament book of Jude, Chapter 1:14-15. It states: “Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy one to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him." This quote is interesting because it supposedly quotes Enoch himself, and since we only have the Books of Enoch as books attributed to him, I must imagine he is quoting them. I could not find that “exact” quote, but the message is correct. The Books of Enoch do touch upon the themes mentioned in Jude. Unless there is another Enochic text out there, I must conclude Jude is referring to the  book/s of Enoch. Does this mean they considered them necessarily on par with Scripture? Maybe, maybe not. The Apostle Paul quoted Greek pagan thinkers to make his point, but that was not an indication that he considered them to be righteous or divinely inspired; see 1 Corinthians. 15:33, Acts 17:28 and Titus. 1:12 and you will see that Paul is referring words by the Greek thinkers Menander, Aratus and Epimenides respectively. It’s interesting that Judaism has rejected the Books of Enoch since Merkabah Mysticism that is found in the Kabbalah has a very strong “Enoch” tradition, whereas the Rabbinic Literature all but disavows of the book of Enoch, yet they discuss elements of it. There are four translations to Enoch, Greek, Latin, Aramaic and Ethiopic. It is the Latter that we have the most intact material. Many fragments are in Ethiopic, and this is also the reason why some Ethiopic churches accept it. Eleven fragments in Aramaic were found in cave 4 at Qumran in the late 1940s. Although I will touch upon this a bit later in the book, I would like to say that the book of Enoch represented a dramatic shift in theological thinking during the second temple period. Mainly, that the focus is no longer on the Torah and its laws; there is a distinct separation occurring between old-guard Jewish ideas and these new more “progressive” ones. One of the more important changes is the idea of evil, prior to the Book of Enoch, there was no clear canonized idea as to

where evil came from. Now, in the book of Enoch, we have the culprits, the fallen Watchers or  angels. In line with this latter idea, we also see a VERY clear idea of the afterlife. Prior to these texts, the Old Testament did not have a clear idea of an afterlife. We simply have accounts that death is either the end-all-be-all of life or that the soul resides in Sheol which is like a static state of gloominess and darkness. Some simply translate it simply as “grave." The concept of eternal rewards in heaven didn’t really exist. In the Old Testament, we find when God wants to bless  people, he does so on earth. The Book of Enoch represented a radical shift in thought. I know I have been referring to this text as if it was a single book. It isn’t, the book of Enoch is separated into five parts. 1 Enoch 6-11 is called “The Book of the Watchers." It is elements of this book we will be most concerned with. We have the Book of Parables which carries over some elements of the Watchers  but elevates it a bit and adds in the elements of the idea of judgement day and messianic conceptions. The messianic ideas are mainly expressed through the discussion of an elusive figure known as the “Son of Man." This is problematic since the New Testament often refers to Jesus as the son of Man. Jesus, was, after all, considered the long-awaited Messiah. This reference to the Son of Man in Enoch can mean one of three things. This portion of the Book of Enoch was written by Christian hands. This was a common term for Messiah during this time, and thus it was used in both texts, which discuss messianic ideas. The thing is, it is mainly used to indicate the messiah in Apocryphal texts and the New Testament. Alternatively, it is a way to distinguish humans from the divine. This was illustrated quite a bit in the Old Testament. I think the second answer is the most likely the correct explanation, but we may not know for  certain. A third part of the book of Enoch is called the “Book of Dreams." In this book, we find visi ons of  the history of the nation of Israel and the Jewish people. A fourth part is the Book of Heavenly Luminaries which is essentially an astrological/Pseudo Astronomical text based on Enoch’s observations while taken up into heaven. The Fifth text called the Epistle of Enoch, in this book it handles many apocalyptic themes as well as a few back-end stories of Noah, more specifically his  birth. I could go on and on about each of these books, but this is not the place for this. We will be mostly focusing on the Watchers and how that idea evolved and eventually a few rituals to call upon them. However, before we move ahead, let us look back.

In The Beginning

Genesis 6: 1-4

It is in Genesis 6: 1-4 that we first encounter these strange beings called the sons of God, Nephilim or the mighty men of old, the men of renowned. For the sake of simplicity, I will follow the accepted idea that these are all describing the same beings, but they might not be all the same  beings. I will touch upon that briefly later in this chapter. However, for the sake of brevity and simplicity, these beings are the Watchers according to Enoch. For many, these are angels who have fallen to earth and for others, they are extraterrestrial beings mating with humankind. I would like to clarify now that I will not be entertaining the extraterrestrial path. I am not saying they were not ET, but for the purposes of this book, I will not be addressing those theories; I will address only those in the biblical and extra-biblical texts. If you are interested in the extraterrestrial theories on the watchers, please consult the books of Zecharia Sitchin who I had the pleasure of meeting many years ago and Erich von Däniken, they have very interesting work on this and a lot more. The above verse I just read from the bible is one of the most enigmatic of verses in the book of  Genesis. In general, Genesis contains the most mysterious verses in the entire biblical tradition. It’s in Genesis that most of the secrets in the bible are presented; I have learned many in my time,

and this is not the forum for those, but I will cover them in a separate text. For now, we will discuss these Nephilim and Sons of God characters. In these verses, we find God being highly upset with humanity. So much so that he repents for ever  creating them. These “Bnay HaElohim” (Sons of God) come down and have sex with the women o the earth. The earth was one big red-light district, so raunchy and corrupted it was that even the animals were not spared condemnation. Not only was sexual licentiousness rampant, there was wide-spread violence. It was like New York City in the 70s and 80s. There is something special about this text, and although it may not appear obvious, it is quite  profound. It is the ONLY time in the bible in which we have direct mating between spiritual entities and humankind. Although we have metaphors of God being the husband of Israel, they are ust that, metaphors. Genesis 6: 1-4 is a direct text about spiritual entities and humans mating and having children. In many ways, these events parallel those of Greek and Mesopotamian mythologies in which divine-human relationships are ubiquitous. We have a few things that we need to discuss regarding these verses. First of all, We need to understand who these “Sons of God” are ,they are the most mysterious of all beings in the O.T. As you know, from my previous work, I have issues with most translations of Hebrew texts  because they really cannot capture nuance. Often the Hebrew itself has a secret that is not present in the actual translation, and if you cannot read Hebrew, it is lost to you. For example: The word for sons of God is ‘Bnay HaElohim’

. This is quite problematic. In English, this is translated as “Sons of God” However, the word for  “god” Elohim or in this case Haelohim literally means “The (Ha) Gods (Elohim). We have many different interpretations for this, some say it is a throwback to a more ancient story originating in Mesopotamia, but the more popular interpretation is that they are angels. We will discuss the Mesopotamian connection in a future chapter. For our overall purpose, we will consider them angels. Thankfully, Genesis is not the only place in the OT that we find a reference to the sons of God. In Job, we have three mentions of these beings, they are as such: Job 1:6 “Now it fell upon a day, that the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.” Job 2:1 “Again, it fell upon a day, that the sons of God came to present themselves before the

LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.” Job 38:7 “When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” In all instances, we have the same word in Hebrew for them “Bnay HaElohim” this suggests that  perhaps there is some divine council in place here. Clearly, this Satan figure can cavort with them as well. Since we are working from the angel hypothesis and considering that Satan can walk  among them suggests these are angels or some divine beings that work with God. Clearly “The sons of God” did not all come to earth to mate with humans but rather some of the sons of God have done so. If they all fell, there would be no sons of God to speak of in Job. Unfortunately, as far as the OT is concerned, that is pretty much all we have for the Sons of God. The bible does not seem to be concerned with them too much; their most active role was to impregnate women, and that is pretty much that. Therefore we need the Book of Enoch to clarify their role. We will get into that later in the book.  Now before we continue on about the Watchers, I do want to make one critical point first, it’s important to do so. Let us quickly discuss the Nephilim, who are the Nephilim? There are four main theories as to what or who these Nephilim are. 1. They are kind of Semi-divine beings, a kind of angelic/human hybrid. 2. Mere mortals and offspring of the Sons of God. However, the sons of God in this theory refer to them as the sons of Seth, Adam and Eves son after the death of Abel. 3. That the Nephilim and Sons of God are one and the same entities. 4. That their mention is simply a temporal notation. I for one think number four is correct at least as far the biblical text is concerned.  As I mentioned, we are often led to believe that the Nephilim are the offspring of the sons of God,  but the passage doesn’t imply this at all. Even the English doesn’t imply this. Let’s look at the English again: 1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were  born unto them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives, whomsoever they chose. 3 And the LORD said: 'My spirit shall not abide in man forever, for that he also is flesh; therefore, shall his days be a hundred and twenty years.

4 The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them; the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown.  Notice in the last verse it states, “The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them…” This verse implies that the Nephilim were even around BEFORE the Sons of Gods were around, since the verse says, “The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that "Implying before Sons of God and after they came to mate with the daughters of men. This is problematic because the word Nephilim means “fallen ones” but because we so link the  Nephilim with the Sons of God, we automatically think the Sons of God, and Nephilim are related. I will posit the idea that the Nephilim are simply ANOTHER people all together. Just reading the passage alone will indicate this. The Nephilim were simply a chronological or  temporal anchor or notation to the event and not the main characters of the story. In fact, evidence from the text suggests they were great men of war and men of renown, and that is it, with no spiritual lineage. Evidence for this can be found later in the Torah that state they are simply a subgroup of a people called the Anakites and are simply a warring class. We have in Numbers 13:33, it states, “And there we saw, the Nephilim, the sons of Anak” Anak means giant but also means great. This will confirm they were perhaps men of great renown, but there is no evidence they have any connection to the Sons of God. Here is perhaps were the stories got mixed together. The term Nephilim itself means “fallen” and these sons of God came to mate with humans, the word fallen and the Sons of God melded and thus the idea of fallen spirit beings starts to coalesce into one idea. This happens all the time throughout many texts be they biblical or other. These sons of God clearly fell from grace, but to make a direct line to the Nephilim is not necessarily correct. However, for the sake of textual consistency, we will work with the popular assumption that they are related in some way. I, as you can see, am not fully convinced they are and some scholars agree that it simply makes more sense from a grammatical and contextual standpoint that they are not related. Per the writers of the book of  Enoch are concerned, they are, in fact, the offspring of these sons of God. They might be, but the way the text is presented in the book of Genesis does not indicate that.  Now that we have that out of the way, Back to the topic at hand. As we have established these fallen angels or sons of God are considered the Watchers in the book of Enoch (we will discuss it in the next chapter). There is no doubt that part of the book of Enoch, sometimes called the book of  the Watchers (Certain chapters that is) is an elaboration of Genesis 6: 1-4 since it pretty much takes up this issue in a very direct way. In the next chapter, we will discuss the Watchers as they

are understood in the book of Enoch. I purposely did not start this book with Enoch because I wanted to illustrate where the original concept of such an idea came from. Enoch, as I stated, is an elaboration not only on these divine beings, but also Enoch himself. Let us proceed.

The Watcher Tradition in The Book Of Enoch Although we have first mention of these heavenly beings in Genesis, it is only in the book of Enoch that we find quite a bit of information about them. I would like to say, before we proceed that there are several translations of Enoch, I will indicate which I use if it adds clarity to textual or  linguistic analysis I will be applying. So, we already have a sense that they are beings that come from the heavenly realms and based on our initial assessment, some have left heaven to mate with human women, and some are still in the heavenly court. At least, that is what we can surmise since they appear in Job 3 times. Before we go on to explain who the Watchers are, I want to cover in brief why they are called Watchers AND like the Bnay Elohim (Son of God) appears to be some kind of angelic order in the heavens which of course implies they are the same entities. I just want to make sure we tie the Watchers and Bnay Elohim together before we proceed. In 1 Enoch 6:1-2 it states, “In those days, when the children of man had multiplied, it happened that there were born unto them handsome and beautiful daughters. 2 And the angels, the children of heaven, saw them and desired them; and they said to one another, “Come, let us choose wives for ourselves from among the daughters of man and beget us children” Only in this passage do we learn these Sons of Heaven are angels. Although they are not called the Sons of God, the implication is very much the same. Now, in English we see “the children of  heaven." In the Greek version, the children of heaven are translated as “ἐγρήγοροι” pronounced “Egregoros” which means in Greek “Watchman." This is of course where the term “Grigori” came from as it pertains to the watchers…egregoros. Since there is an Aramaic translation of the book  of Enoch, the word used for Watchers in that language is “IRIM”

vigilant ones or more precisely “WATCHFUL” ones, sometimes we will see it spelled as IRIN with an N. Now that we see WHY they are called Watchers, let us continue to tie them to the Bnay Elohim. As I stated earlier, we see that only SOME of Bnay Elohim mated w ith human daughters, not all. Here we will see that not all the Watchers became “evil” but there is still an order of  Watchers that are in heaven. The book of Enoch recounts of their fall; however, in the Old Testament, we find that Watchers are much more than what we read in Enoch. In the book of Daniel, we see reference to the Watchers in several verses. Daniel of course was written way after Genesis so It seems logical that he is referring to some still existing heavenly  beings called the Watchers. Let us look at the passages. As a side note, the passages we will look  at in Daniel are actually written in Aramaic as opposed to Hebrew. Although Aramaic can be found in the bible, this is one of the longest continuous texts in Aramaic found in the old testament. In total, the OT has 269 verses in Aramaic. Let’s take a look at the passages.

Daniel 4:10 “I saw in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and behold a WATCHER, a holy one came down from heaven”

The word that is highlighted is IR which is the singular of IRIN. Daniel 4: 14 “ The Sentence is by Decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones…

The word that is highlighted is IRIN or watchers. Daniel 4:20 “And Because the king saw a watcher, a holy one coming down from heaven…”

The word that is highlighted is IR which is the singular of IRIN. So, we can see that clearly the Watchers in the book of Daniel are beneficent. Therefore, need to come to what I think is the logical conclusion; some Watchers fell and some did not. Even in Enoch, 1 En. 12:3 we find this as well. The same goes for the Bnay Elohim, some fell and some did not. I do not think it is a huge leap to associate these two groups. Genesis called them Bnay Elohim; Enoch calls them Watchers, and they are both speaking of the same event. AND, we see in  both cases that some of these Watchers and Bnay Elohim are still in the heavenly court as well. I felt this point had to be made in order to reconcile the two accounts while still keeping an eye on the broader concept of what these beings are. Although Genesis, as I stated earlier, does not actually call them angels or fallen angels per se, Enoch certainly does. This leads us to the next point. We know roughly that the book of Enoch was written significantly after Genesis, that is not to say there wasn’t some oral tradition floating around, but it has been accepted that we are talking about 300 B.C to 100 A.D, if not a bit later, Well into the Second Temple period. We come up with this dating because several of the passages can be found in the Qumran documents (Dead Sea Scrolls) we know those documents are 50-100 years after certain parts of the book of Enoch was written so clearly Enoch had to be written  before the Dead Sea Scrolls. We also know this because the linguistic conventions are very much in line with the linguistic conventions used during the Second Temple period. The concept of the fallen angels in Enoch seems to coincidence with a shift in Jewish thinking around this time as well. At this time, the idea that some objectified evil being aka the devil starts to come into play in Rabbinic literature. Prior to this time, even the “Satan” in the book of Job

didn’t quite match the more modern concept of the devil. But it is here in the Second Temple  period when the idea becomes fleshed out and more concrete. Further concretization of the concept of fallen angels and Satan occurred as Christianity was starting to gel during the firstcentury A.D. It is through Enoch’s story of the Watchers that Christianity starts seriously taking the idea of an infernal realm in direct opposition to God very seriously.  Now that we have some of the basics out of the way. We will now discuss a few of these Watchers Angels. In total, 200 angels are said to have fallen. Not all are named, but a few are and mainly the leaders. They are, according to Enoch 6: 7-8 " Samyaza their leader, Arakiel, Ramel, Kochaviel, Tamiell, Ramiel, Danell, Ezekiel, Barakiel, Azazel, Armaros, Batarel, Ananel, Zakiel, Shamsiel, Satarel, Turel, Jomjael, Sariel. 8 these are their chiefs of te ns”. It is these angels that impregnated the daughters of men and taught mankind the forbidden arts. What were these arts exactly? I will quote directly from the book of Enoch Chapters 7 " they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. " Chapter 8 " And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all coloring tinctures" " Samyaza taught enchantments, and root-cuttings, Armaros the resolving of enchantments, Barakiel, (taught) astrology, Kochaviel the constellations, Eze kiel the knowledge of the clouds, Arakiel the signs of the earth, Shamsiel the signs of the sun, and Sariel the course of the moon" . The versions of  Enoch I used for these passages are from " The Book of Enoch" - Charles, R.H, Oesterley, W.O.E.

Apparently, someone thought all these teachings were forbidden. To me, they sound like things you would learn in Arts and Crafts and maybe even the ancient art of Home ed at school. In either case, these were clearly abominations and other angels who did not join in on these teachings were appalled. It is here we find the archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel come to the rescue.  God dispatches them. Sariel is sent to prepare Noah for the Flood ( Enoch 10:1–3), it is after all  because of the wicked that the watchers taught humans that the flood is going to occur in the first  place. Raphael is sent to imprison Azazel in darkness (10:4–8), Gabriel is sent to destroy the  Nephilim (10:9–10), and Michael is to imprison Samyaza and bring stability to the earth (10:11–  22). We jump a few chapters to chapter 12, 13 and onward and we start to learn more about Enoch himself; it is at this point he is taken up into heaven; he now resides with the Watchers. Here he speaks to Azazel and the Watchers who rebelled. He told Azazel, and the other Watchers that they

would not have peace after everything they have done. They have truly squandered their special status in the heavens. It was when they transgressed and "fell" that their spiritual status changed to, I guess one could say, "Demonic." In the book of Enoch, the term demon isn't really used, but it is here that we start to see the label change for these angels from angelic to demonic. The demonic conception of the Watchers is certainly more of a Christian concept than a Jewish one. Christian writers such as Justin Martyr made clear connection between the watchers who fell and demons.  He states in his second apology, section 5 “…God, when He had made the whole world, and subjected earthly things to men and women, and arranged the heavenly elements for the increase of fruits and change of the seasons, and ordered the divine law for them—these things also He made for people to see—and entrusted the care of men and women and of  things under heaven to angels whom He appointed over them. But the angels transgressed this order, and were captivated by love of women, and produced children who are called demons. And besides later, they enslaved the human race to themselves, partly by magical ritings, and partly by fe ars and punishments which they occasioned, and partly by te aching them to offer sacrifices and incense and libations, which they needed after they were enslaved with lustful passions; and among people, they sowed murders, wars, adulteries, intemperate deeds, and every evil” It is apparent that the fall of the angels in the book of the Watchers does seem to be the opening early Christianity needed to produce a robust demonic tradition. For such an important event, the rest of the book of the Watchers hardly touches upon the main story of the fallen Watchers. The rest of the book is apparently a judgement piece against humanity.  Now that we covered the Watcher tradition briefly in once section of the book of Enoch, now let's look at the Watcher Tradition in the Book of Parables that, as I mentioned, is also part of the book  of Enoch. The book of Parables has some interesting information pertinent to our discussion.

The Watchers in The Book of Parables As I stated earlier, the book of Enoch, although considered one book, has five parts. We have of  course the Watchers portion. Then we have a book called the book of Parables that also discusses the Watchers in an interesting way. This part of Enoch is in 1 Enoch, 37-71. It is by far the most recent of the texts and is very much focused on in the Ethiopian church. In this part of the book we see a slightly different direction in narrative. In the Watcher section, we learn of the angels that fell and how they have corrupted the people of earth. In the book of the Parables, we get a bit deeper  as to how these angels influence the leaders of the earth, and how they are in opposition to this elusive Son of Man. We will examine some of the themes in this part of the book of Enoch. The first parable really gives you an idea of what the book is about. It goes on to discuss the horrible end the strong and mighty will experience. They are considered wicked, and their evil ways will not prevail. Of course, who encourages their wickedness? The influence of the Watchers of course. In the second and third parables, it gives a more detailed view of these wicked and mighty men. These mighty men deny the sovereignty and perhaps even the existence of God and his saints as well as other countless sins against those who believe. The book illustrates their  destruction; the following passage is Enoch's speaking of course: (1 En. 54:1–5) “Turning and looking at another part of the earth, I saw there a deep valley burning with fire. And they brought the kings and the mighty, and they threw them into this deep valley. I saw there with my own eyes how their shackles were being forged—iron chains of incalculable weight. So I asked the Angel of Peace who went with me: “These shackling chains—for whom are they being prepared?” He said to me: these are being prepared for the legions of Azaz el, so that they may se ize them and throw them into the lowest hell …” Later in the book, it gets a bit more descriptive.  (1 En. 67:4–9, 12) “ “And he (The son of Man) will confine those angels who showed iniquity in that burning valley … by the mountains of gold and silver and iron and soft metal and tin. And I saw that valley in which there was a great disturbance and troubling of waters. And when all this happened, from that fie ry molten metal and the troubling in that place, the smell of sulfur was generated, and it mixed with those waters; and the valley of those angels who had led mankind astray burned beneath that ground. And through the valleys of the rivers of fire issue, where those angels will be judged who led astray those who dwell on the earth. And in those days those waters will serve the kings and the mighty and the exalted and those who dwell on the earth, for the healing of flesh and the judgment of their spirits. Their spirits are full of pleasure, so that their flesh will be judged, because they denied the Lord of Spirits …

And the more their flesh is burnt, the more a change takes place in their spirits, forever and ever … And I heard Angel Michael answer and say, “This judgment with which the angels are judged is a testimony for the kings and the mighty who possess the earth.” That is gruesome if you ask me.  Now here is where things go a bit astray from the original Watchers narrative. Both the original Watchers narrative and the Book of Parables contain sets of angelic names and the sins they committed. There is some discrepancy. In Parables, Azazel is mentioned twice and there are 3 more angels in the parables list than the Watchers one. Let us compare: Book of the Parables: “Chapter 69 1 And after this judgement, they shall terrify and make them to tremble because they have shown this to those who dwell on the earth. 2 And behold the names of those angels and these are their names: the first of them is Samyaza, the second Artaqifa, and the third Armen, the fourth Kochaviel, the fifth Turael, sixth Ramiel, the seventh Danell, the eighth Neqael, ninth Barakiel, the tenth Azazel, the eleventh Armaros, the twelfth Batarel, the thirteenth Busasejal, the fourteenth Ananel, the fifteenth Turel,

the sixteenth Simapesiel, the seventeenth Jetrel, the eighteenth Tamiell, the nineteenth Turel, the twentieth Rumael, the twenty-first Azazel.”  Now here is the list from the book of the watchers. Enoch 6: 7-8 " Samyaza their leader, Arakiel, Ramel, Kochaviel , Tamiell, Ramiel, Danell, Ezekiel, Barakiel, Azazel, Armaros, Batarel, Ananel, Zakiel, Shamsiel, Satarel, Turel, Jomjael, Sariel. As you can see, there is some overlap, but they are certainly not identical. We will of course itemize each angel we will work with later in the book and get deeper into their functions. But for  now, let us proceed. The close of the final parable comes to a rather dramatic end, stating that “those who led the orld astray will be bound in chains, and in the asse mbly place of their destruction. they will be shut up; and all their works will vanish from the face of the earth” (69:28). This kind of  language is very typical of Apocalyptic texts and promises to punish all the wrong doers. In this case, it is not only the Watchers who are going to be punished but also all the men of might and leaders who were led astray by them. As you can see, there is quite a bit more drama in the book of the Parables. It is now time to move on. Now, let us look to see, if perhaps there is an earlier tradition of the watchers found immediately outside of Enoch and the bible, perhaps even predates It, OR at least informs it. In the next chapter, will discuss how and if there are any Mesopotamian Mythological elements we should be mindful of. Don’t worry though; we will be circling back to the Watcher angels themselves later in the book. I feel this history is very important for a complete understanding or at the very least, should make good conversation when you have social gatherings.

Mesopotamian Mesopotami an Myth and a nd The Watcher atcherss When When you examine examine the books boo ks of Enoch, you will wil l find that it has some connection to the Mesopotamian traditions. In fact, Enoch's entire entire heavenly heav enly journey is very ver y much much littered littere d with wi th Mesopotamian Mythological Mythological motifs. Especial Espec ially ly that that of the the Mesopotam Mesopo tamian ian King Enm Enmeduranki. This great king was taken up into heaven by the Gods Shamash and Adad and was also taught the secrets of the earth and of the heavens. What makes this interesting is that he was taught pretty much the same things the Watchers atcher s taught taught mankind. mankind. Divinati Div ination on and other other nature magick in additi add ition on to other  occult knowledge. knowled ge. But that that is not where the similarities similar ities end, they, they, being bei ng the king king and Enoch Enoch are 7th named in a list of early patriarchs. That is quite a striking similarity. One of the things that stand out the most is what the Watchers teach humans. We have them teach the art of Metall Metallurgy urgy,, especial espec ially ly that that of jewelry jewel ry making making and weapons. weap ons. They also als o teach women everyth ever ything ing they they need need to know about ab out Makeup. Makeup. The Mesopotamians were wer e very ver y much much involved in i n the the art of Makeup and beauty. They kept their makeup in shells. Many of these shells were found in tombs, tombs, which w hich indicate j ust how how im i mportant makeup makeup was to them. In one of the the stories stori es of Ishtar, we find that that her makeup makeup and jewelry jewe lry have intense seductive powe p owers. rs. We can now see w hy these these things were considered great sins in the book of Enoch. Furthermore, Furthermore, something something very much much influenced by the Mesopotamian is the idea of the "binding" of  evil evi l spirits spi rits and a nd demons. demons. If you you read the book of the Watchers, Watchers, you wil l see se e that as a punishment, punishment, the Watchers Watchers were w ere to be b e bound and throw thrown n into into the abyss of darkness. We find in the the creation cr eation story of the Mesopotamians, the Enuma Elish. We found several references of the God binding the forces of evil. evi l. We have Marduk Mar duk binding Tia Tiamat; mat; We have EA binding bindi ng Apsu and his "assi "as sistant" stant" Mumm Mummu. The book of Enoch is essentially a text against Mesopotamian culture, yet it borrows the motifs quite readily readi ly and then then transformed transformed it to fit the narra narrative. tive. There is evidence ev idence that the the Mesopotamian evil evi l spirits spi rits call c alled ed the " Utuk Utukku ku were wer e the template template for the "Giants." In the Qum Qumran text, the the book of  Giants which is part of the Enoch narrative says something that betrays much of its Mesopotamian origins in its ideology. The Mesopotamian King Gilgamesh is mentioned there, not once, but twice in relation rela tion to the the giants. giants. The first reference to Gilgam Gil gamesh esh and the the destruction destructio n of the Giants, Giants, is 4Q530 frag. 2ii+6+7i+8+9+10+11+12,1–2). The second mention of Gilgamesh portrays him as an interpreter interpre ter of a dream drea m, which is being be ing told told to one of these these Giants, Gia nts, Ohya. Ohya. I find find the mention mention of  Gilgamesh in the Qumran Enoch narrative highly suspect and in my mind betrays the source of  much of the book of Enoch, Enoch, at least le ast in terms of the the motifs being used. used. It is no coincidence coincid ence that Gilgamesh himself, although questionably a real king on earth, was certain considered a king of the netherw netherworld orldss in i n some fragments fragments in the Mesopotamian myth, myth, so it ties in i n nicely to the Watcher  Watcher  narrative narrativ e as well. wel l. Clearly, Clea rly, Enoch Enoch borrowed borrow ed heavily heavil y from Mesopotamian Myth Myth;; of that, that, we can be

fairly positive. In the next few chapters, we will fast forward once again and look at the Watcher tradition in other  apocryphal texts.

The Watchers in the Book of Jubilees The Watcher tradition as it is relayed in the book of Jubilees is quite a bit different than other texts that handle handle the Watcher Watcher Motif. However, Howev er, before we get into into that, let me me just give you a quick  history of the book of Jubilees. Jubilees . This particular partic ular text is interesting interes ting because beca use it tries to fill in some information that is missing from the book of Genesis. It is no coincidence that it is also called the "Lesser Genesis." Genesi s." However, Howev er, it is considered considere d canonical to the the Ethiopi Ethiopian an Church Church and and the the Ethiopi Ethiopian an Jews. This book, like many apocryphal books are a product of Second Temple ideology and the various shifts that took place in religious reli gious ideas at the the time. time. Some of the narratives narrativ es in the the book will wil l be quite famili familiar  ar  to those that have read Genesis and some parts of Exodus, but it also contains elements that would  be considered "foreign" "foreign" to those those fam familiar iliar with the the latter latter two books. One thing that truly breaks away from the original early Genesis story is that women are more  prominen  prominent. t. In In Genesis, Genesis, we do not know know the the names names of several wom w omen en but but in Jubilee, Jubilee, we w e do see certain cer tain women who are otherwis o therwisee anonymous anonymous in Genesis, named here. here. This is not the the only odd thing about the text. These same characters that predate Moses, somehow know of the Mosaic law. On a purely logical level, this would not make sense. BUT in Jewish tradition, there are accounts in which the the patriarc patri archs hs of old knew knew everything e verything Moses was w as going to to teach ahead of time. You can find this foreknowledge in Islam as well. Abraham, after all, was a Muslim in Islam before Islam was even a twinkle in Allah's eyes. The book of Jubilees itself appears to be an anonymous text and is not ascribed to any particular  author. author. Some think think it is the hand of one author, author, and others think several severa l aut a uthors hors penn pe nned ed it. i t. For the sake of simplicity and Unless something is found in archeology indicating otherwise, we will consider conside r it a text written by a single author. author. Let us now now discuss di scuss how the Watcher Watcher tradition tradi tion plays out in the book of Jubilees. You will see; it is quite different. The Watch Watchers ers appear appea r in the the book of Jubilees Jubilees five times. times. Jubilees. 4:15, 22; 5:1–12; 7:20–25; 8:1–  4; 10:1–11. In the the first fir st mention mention of Watchers, Watchers, we see that the the Watchers Watchers initially initial ly did not come down to earth for  the sake of leading mankind astray, in fact, the opposite is true. The text states Jub, 4:15 4: 15 " the angels of the Lord who were called Watchers descended to earth to teach mankind and to do hat is just and upright upon the earth”. This is starkly starkly contrasted contrasted from the book of Genesis and the Book of Enoch in which the the Watchers Watchers had malevole malev olent nt intent. intent. It was only o nly gradual gradually ly that somehow or another; the Watchers Watchers became be came corrupt, corr upt, at least som so me of them did. We see in 4:22 that Watchers rs who who had had sinned sinned with with the daughte daughters rs of me me n they begin to get corrupted " .. .. the Watche because these had begun to mix with earthly women so that they became defiled..."

In the second reference to the Watcher Narrative, mainly Jubilees 5: 1-12 we go into depth on the Watcher and Human interaction. At first, the book laments that the population growth in the world was skyrocketing. It then goes on to discuss the "marrying" of these Angels with human women. This union produced offspring that was corrupt. In fact, it gets so bad that this evil and corruption spread to all of the natural world. Even animals and insects were corrupted. It goes on to say that every single thought a person had in those days was tinged with evil and corruption. It was at this time God decided he had had enough and that all the earth was to pay the price for this corruption. Except for Noah of course. In the next watcher reference (Jubilee 7:20-25) we are reintroduced to Noah from Noah's ark  fame. We have Noah telling his sons of the Watchers and what they have done. He states,“due to fornication that the Watchers had illicit intercourse—apart from the mandate of their authority—with women. When they married of them whomever they chose they committed the first acts of uncleanness” (Jub. 7:21). In the next Watcher reference, Jubilees 8:1-4 we are given told the Watchers taught astrology and astronomy. We see a reference in Jubilees 8: 2-3 " … an inscription which the ancients had incised in a rock. He read what was in it, copied it, and sinned on the basis of what was in it, since in it was the Watchers’ teaching by which they used to observe the omens of the sun, moon, and stars and every heavenly sign" In the final reference to the Watchers (Jubilee 10:1-10) we find Noah again. Here he is praying to God for protection against the Watchers and their spawn. This was especially dire for Noah  because the text states that he has already lost several grandchildren to the corrupt influence of the Watchers. He states, “demons … were misleading, blinding, and killing his grandchildren” Jubilees. 10:2. His prayer is as such:  " You know how your Watchers, the fathers of these spirits, have acte d during my lifetime. As for these spirits who have remained alive, imprison them and hold them captive in the place of judgment. May they not cause destruction among your servant’s sons, my God, for they are savage and were create d for the purpose of destroying. " Jubilees 10:5. God heard Noah’s prayers and in Jubilees 10:7, he orders the angels to bind the demon spawn. At first, it looked like peace would prevail, but alas, stories like these never end that way. After God  binds the demons, one of the demons of high rank, Mastema complains to God stating that if he  binds all of them, then he could not fulfill his mission, which is to destroy and mislead. Oddly enough, God agrees and compromises. He doesn't bind all of them. He lets 10% of them go. The rest will be bound. This of course is not the first time we see God compromise with demonic forces. The book of Job in the Old Testament is essentially a story of How God compromised with

Satan. As you can see, although the Watches are mentioned just a few times in the book of Jubilee, we learn quite a bit about them. We learn that their initial intent was actually quite good. Another  thing we learned that perhaps did not appear obvious is that now we finally have the word "Demon" associated with the Watcher's offspring. We didn't have this in Enoch or Genesis. Aside from the Watcher narrative, the book of Jubilee is very interesting and certainly worth a read. It gives some good background information on Genesis. In the next chapter, we will discuss the Watcher Tradition within various Jewish texts, mainly the Midrash and the Targumim. I will explain in the next chapter.

The Watchers in Jewish Tradition Although Hebrew is the religious language of Judaism, it is widely known that most Jews during the Second Temple period and beyond spoke mainly Aramaic. Although similar to Hebrew, it does have some stark differences. I will discuss those differences in my Hebrew and Aramaic courses,  but for the sake of brevity, we will work with the idea that Aramaic was the language of the "people." Since this does appear to be the case, the Old Testament had to be translated into Aramaic. These translations are called the "Targumim" or literally "translations." They offer far  more than just a simple translation of the OT texts, they also add a few details here and there to the stories of  the bible so as to make it more accessible to the Aramaic speaking Jews at the time. Although the Watchers story was not widely accepted by Jews, we do have elements of the Watcher tradition within the Targumim. We also find some elements of the story in the Midrash, which is a collection of stories that give some background to OT texts. I happen to love the Midrashim since often they add some color to otherwise dry biblical stories. In essence, the Midrash can be considered part story book, part elaboration and part moral text. They can be difficult to understand for the outsider looking in. However, there is a very accessible abridged version of the Midrash clearly aimed at Jewish youth, but can be easily understood by people outside of the fold looking in. No judgment here, in fact, when I first embarked on my journey to understand the Midrash, I bought that very version of the Midrash. You can find it here: "The Midrash Says". In the Midrash, we find bits and pieces of the Watcher story, there is also evidence in the Targumim. One of these Targumim, arguably the oldest of them is Targum Onkelos; I have read this Targum dozens of times over the years, and I am always in awe of the Aramaic style it uses, but I digress. The Targumim focuses mainly on the first five books of Moses, or the Torah. Since Genesis is one of those books, and we know the Watcher traditions finds it roots there, that is where we will begin. As We have seen in Genesis, Enoch was so righteous that he never died, he was literally taken up  by God. In the Targumim, we see some differences in the story. Although the Targumim agree that Enoch was a righteous man, they are not in alignment as to what actually happened to him. In the OT, we find that there is no reference of Enoch dying. However, in Targum Onkelos it states, " Enoch was no more, for God had caused him to die.” The word in the Aramaic for die in this instance is

"ameet" in the Hebrew OT original text it states

 "la-chah" which means

"took" or  taken". In the Targum Neofti, another popular Targum states He was "withdrawn" by God. It is only in the larger of the Targumim, Targum Pseudo-Jonathan do we find any true semblance to the

Enochian tales. It states, " Enoch was no longer with the people of the Earth; he was taken away to the heavens by God's command..." it goes on to say that once he was in the heavens he was called " Metatron." As you can see, it is very much in alignment with the book of Enoch's account. There are several theories as to why the Targumim are in disagreement, but this is not the  place for them. I simply wanted to establish that Enoch was very much an enigma to the Jewish translators, and they were trying to make heads or tails from the Enoch story. Let us now discuss more specifically the Watcher narrative within these texts. As the above example has shown regarding Enoch, the Targumim are also not quite in alignment with what they conceived the "The Sons of God" to be. In the Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, they are referred to as "Sons of the great ones." In Targum Onkelos they are called "Sons of the great ones" and in Targum Neofiti, they are referred to as " The Sons of Judges." We will further see that the concept of Nephilim within the Targum are also not uniformly named. In the Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, the Nephilim are referred to as “Mighty ones." In Targum Onkelos they are called "Mighty ones." HOWEVER, in Targum Neofiti, they are referred to by name " Samyaza and Azazel." So, we have the Targum Neofiti coming very close to the actual Enoch story. It actually names the very same "fallen angels" that are found in the book of Enoch. These same two angels are mentioned sporadically within the Hebrew oral tradition as well, the Talmud. Therefore, it is clear the book of Enoch, and its contents were known and have influenced the Targumim and other Jewish texts, albeit sporadically.

The Second Apology of Justin Martyr  As I stated earlier, we know that the Watcher tradition was known in Christian circles, example in  point, the quote by Justin Martyr (Mid-second century). Justin Martyr was a Christian apologist and philosopher; he is the author of the somewhat obscure, but very important text "Dialogue with Trypho" in which he makes the case that Christianity has replaced Judaism as being the law of the land so to speak. Although that book is fascinating, I read it twice, we will not be focusing on it but rather on his apologies, mainly his second one. Let us revisit his quote that indicated his familiarity with the Watcher tradition. Second Apology, section 5 “…God, when He had made the whole world, and subjected earthly things to men and women, and arranged the heavenly elements for the increase of fruits and change of the seasons, and ordered the divine law for them—these things also He made for people to se e—  and entrusted the care of men and women and of things under heaven to angels whom He appointed over them. But the angels transgressed this order, and were captivated by love of  omen, and produced children who are called demons. And besides later, they e nslaved the human race to themselves, partly by magical writings, and partly by fe ars and punishments hich they occasioned, and partly by teaching them to offer sacrifices and incense and libations, which they needed after they were enslaved with lustful passions; and among people, they sowed murders, wars, adulteries, intemperate deeds, and every evil” If we look at this quote carefully it is very much in alignment with the Watcher Narrative because he clearly states that humanity was taught and subsequently became corrupted by the magick that had been taught by the angels who fell. We also see that he refers to these entities as demons which indicates that the concept of demons was well established in Christianity, AND that he was very familiar with the concept of the Daemon from Greco-Roman mythology. Speaking of  Mythology, Justin also took a moment to add his flare to the Watcher narrative in the same apology  by stating that those early writers of Mythology were, in fact, being influenced by these fallen angels. He states: “Whence also the poets and mythologists, not knowing that it was the angels and those demons who had been begotten by them that did these things to men and women and cities and nations, which they related, ascribed them to God Himself, and to those who were His offspring, and to the offspring of those who were called His brothers. For whatever name each of the angels had given to himself and his children, by that name they called them." In one blow, he condemned all of mythology of the past to the influence of these Fallen angels. That is quite a condemnation. Justin’s beliefs above set the stage for future usage by Christians against the entirety of polytheistic cultures and their ways.

We have seen that clearly Justin knew of such a Watcher tradition. It is, of course, not clear if he read it first hand from a book of the Enochican manuscripts, but clearly the ideas were fairly known in his time. In the next chapter, the last of the historical ones, we will look at NT testament references to the Watcher Tradition. As you read earlier, Justin Martyr quoted the book of Jude. I will simply itemize them for your reference and provide comments as needed.

The New Testament and the Watcher Tradition We will now look at what the New Testament says about the Watcher tradition. As you have read in the previous chapter and earlier, the book of Jude has what appears to be a reference to the book  of Enoch and the Watcher tradition. Jude is not the only one, we will also have references in 1 Peter and 2 Peter. Let us start with Jude since we have mentioned this book a few times. Jude 6: “And the angels who did not keep their own position, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains in deepest darkness for the judgment of the great day.” The passage above all others seems to be directly related to the Watcher Narrative in the book of  Enoch. It implies that these angels had a special position as did the sons of God, but they strayed from their path and thus became wicked. This verse also echoes the book of Jubilees as well since it too mentions that the angels were positioned to teach for the good of mankind, but fell from grace so to speak. Let us now look at 1 Peter for a reference to the Watcher tradition. “The author of 1 Peter works from an apocalyptic worldview similar to that of 1 Enoch … The eschaton and the final judgment are imminent, and the reader can take comfort in the knowledge that, in spite of present tribulation, heaven holds a reward, as yet unseen, for the righteous (1:3–  12). In addition, the author, alluding to the tradition about the watchers, attributes to Jesus a ourney to the underworld that parallels Enoch’s interaction with the rebel watchers (3:19–20), and compares baptism to the purifying effects of the flood (cf. 10:21). With its criticism of   braiding hair, decoration of gold, and wearing fine clothing, 1 Pet 3:3 may also reflect the story of  the watchers.” - Nickelsburg, George W.E. 1 Enoch 1: A Commentary on the Book of 1 Enoch Chapters 1–36, 81–108. Hermeneia. Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2001. Let us look at 1 Peter 3:18-20. I will place in bold the reference that ties this quote to the Watcher   Narrative. “18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. 19 After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits — 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built…” Here we see a clear reference to the Watcher tradition. It specifically mentioned the spirits that were imprisoned, that is what happened to the Watchers in Enoch and Jubilees. Further backup to this claim is the verse right after it mentioning the times of Noah when this occurred. We have already established that the flood was in direct response to the corruption of the Watchers. I don’t think it can get clearer than that. Let us now look at 2 Peter for a reference to the Watcher tradition.

In 2 Peter, we essentially see a repeating of what was found in the book of Jude. Let us look at them side by side. Jude 6: “And the angels who did not keep their own position, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains in deepest darkness for the judgment of the great day.” 2 Peter 2:4: “For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment.” As we can see, the story is pretty much the same. It is understood by Scholars that the Peter verse is informed by the Jude verse. Clearly, from the above we see the Watcher Narrative present in Enoch, and other apocryphal  books had some influence on the NT and Christian theology in general. If you ask most people today what the fallen angels are, they will tell you, roughly, what they are, and assume it is from the bible. Although the book of Enoch didn’t take off as an established Canon in the West, it surely influenced all western conceptions of the origin of evil in general and the fallen angels in  particular.

The Watchers We Will Call Upon  Now that we got most but not all of the history out of the way, let us now discuss some of the angels we will call upon. We may not call on all of them since their exact function may not be known, but I will still list them here. As I mentioned earlier, there are a few different renditions of  the book of Enoch, some with a few more details and some with few details. I will be using The Book of Enoch" - Charles, R.H, Oesterley, W.O.E. edition. In it we see the following passages regarding the angels we will be calling upon. I will provide those passages here once again for  your reference. Enoch 6: 7-8 " Samyaza their leader, Arakiel, Ramel, Kochaviel, Tamiell, Ramiel, Danell, Ezekiel, Barakiel, Azazel, Armaros, Batarel, Ananel, Zakiel, Shamsiel, Satarel, Turel, Jomjael, Sariel. 8 these are their chiefs of tens" it is these angels that impregnated the daughters of men and taught mankind the forbidden arts. So what were these arts e xactly?  I will quote direct from the book of Enoch Chapters 7 and 8" they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. " Chapter 8 " And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all coloring tinctures" " Samyaza taught enchantments, and root-cuttings, Armaros the resolving of enchantments, Barakiel, (taught) astrology, Kochaviel the constellations, Ezekiel the knowledge of the clouds, Arakiel the signs of the e arth, Shamsiel the signs of the sun, and Sariel the course of the moon." When we call on some of these angels, we will use them for the purposes they are indicated for. But before we get into the rituals, let us discuss each of the angels. Some of these angels have interesting traditions tied to them while others have little if anything. We will discuss them in the order that they appear in the passages above. Samyaza: This angel was one of the main leaders. He taught the sons of man Magickal Enchantments. We will use him to cast a spell on someone. In some legends, he was the one who tempted Ishtar to reveal the true name of Anu. In many myths, we find this scenario. He is said to now reside in the in-between spaces between earth and heaven. According to the Kabbalah, more specifically the Zohar Samyaza's sons, Hiwa and Hiya, were supposedly birthed from one of Eve’s daughters. Arakiel: He is one of the fallen angels discussed in Enoch I. Arakiel taught human beings the signs of the earth. The name Arakiel means literally "Earth of God" in Aramaic. ARA sometimes ARAK in Aramaic means earth and El means God. We will use him to harness the four elements of 

Earth for whatever purpose you wish. Ramel: sometimes known as Ramiel: According to the Syriac Apocalypse of Baruch this angel  bestows psychic vision. That is what we will use him for. Kochaviel: He taught astrology and the magick of the stars. We will use him for knowledge of the future through your choice of divination. This angels name literally means " Star of God". Tamiell: (Tamel, Temel, Tamuel) : is known as the angel of the deep. Another name he goes by is RAHAB. He is called that in the OT and the Talmud. Supposedly this angel was destroyed a few times and then revived. His first destruction was due to the fact that he refused to divide the upper  and lower waters at the time of Creation, and his second destruction was because he tried to save the Egyptian hosts from drowning as they chased the Hebrews across the Red sea. We will use him in a water spell to curse your enemies. Danell: sometimes known as Daniel: I figure the latter is the right pronunciation since the meaning of his name is " God is my Judge" which in Hebrew and Aramaic is Daniel. He is known to be an angel that assists in all things relating to Law. We will use him for help in legal pursuits. Ezekiel: Taught man the knowledge of the clouds, we will use him for storm magick to make major changes in life. Barakiel: He taught astrology and the magick of the stars. He is also supposedly one of those angels that took earthly women for mates. We will use him to gain cosmic knowledge, since his name literally means Lightening of God, you can also use him for storm magick if you so choose. Azazel: He taught mankind the instruments of war. We will use him to conquer our enemies. His name means " God Strengthens" but has since been used as a term of hell or abandonment. Armaros: We will use him to break curses and hexes off of us and turns it around against our  enemy. He is, after all, known as “the resolver of enchantments." Batarel: Batarel (Batariel, Badariel, Batrael, Batarjal, Metarel)--Not much is known about this angel, he is usually used in ceremonial magic rites. Since he does not have a specific purpose, we will not include him in a ritual at this time. You can find a reference of him in the book by A.E Waite, the book of Black Magick and Pacts, his name is found on a talisman in the book. Ananel: pronounced Hananel , this angel is regarded as both good and evil. Various traditions have him as an angel of Love affairs and all affairs of the heart. We will use him to attract the attention of a person. Zakiel: is an angel invoked in Syriac charms, he is mostly used in binding rituals. We will use him for that very thing.

Shamsiel: His name can mean " Sun of God or light of God" He taught sun magick, we will use him for sun magick, more specifically for personal empowerment. It was said in Jewish tradition that this angel guided Moses around the heavenly Paradise when he, visited the heavens while he was still alive. In the Kabbalistic text, The Zohar, this angel is head of 365 legions of spirits. Satarel: His name means " Hidden of God” he is the Angel Over what is hidden. We will use him to learn occult knowledge. Turel: His name means, rock of God, he is often considered to be an angel associated with the  planet Jupiter, thus we will use him for a magickal spell for financial prosperity. Jomjael: His name is really pronounced Yomyael, meaning, day of God . Since he does not have a specific purpose, we will not include him in a ritual at this time. Sariel: He taught the men of the world how to discern the moon for magickal purposes, we will use him for moon magick, more especially for clearing and banishing spirits that won’t go away. As you can see, there are a few interesting traditions surrounding some of these angels. I know, we have been covering a lot but as you know, I like to make sure that you have a solid foundation. In the coming chapters, we will discuss the rituals and some of the requirements that I have found are vital for success with working these Watchers. One of these is the offering or  "Sacrifices" we will offer them. We will discuss the various forms of sacrifices we will use in the next chapter.

The Sacrifices  The act of giving an offering and or a sacrifice is an age-old practice, in fact, every single ancient civilization including some that still exist offer sacrifices to the divine and to the spirits be they  benign or malevolent. It is so ingrained in our collective unconscious that we still practice it, albeit in less obvious forms. For the most part, charity given at churches and temples etc. are surrogates for sacrifices. They may not be as effective as the age-old practices but in the minds of  the giver, it is just as good. Very few still sacrifice animals in the West, although I do know of   people who still do so. The West has become rather squeamish to the idea and therefore you won't find many people openly admitting to this practice, but I assure you, it is happening, and maybe even right under your nose. In this book, we will be offering the Watchers sacrifices that are based loosely on biblical offerings. Between the Old and New Testament, I have counted at least 727 incidences of  sacrificial offerings, ranging from simple water,oil and flour, to animal sacrifices to first born male children. (The latter is mostly symbolic and is really the consecration of the first born male children to God.) I found using variants of the biblical sacrifice traditions to be a wonderful and effective practice. We won't do any of the sacrificing ourselves unless that is your thing, but we will use the next best option available. For some, these offering may not feel right, so you can surely adapt it, but the ones presented here are the ones I have used in the past and in some instances in the present when working with the Watchers. They work wonderfully. In many of  these offerings, meat is generally used, so if this is a problem, please adapt the offerings based on the non-meat ones I will itemize below. I will itemize each angel we will be using and their  respective sacrifices. Samyaza: Since he is considered the "leader" we will be offering a meat offering. Lamb is most appropriate but if you don't have the stomach to buy lamb meat, beef will do. We will want it to be cooked since this will be considered a brunt offering. After the ritual is concluded, you can either  cast the meat in nature or throw it out if you do not have access to a natural setting. Arakiel: Since he is associated with the earth, an offering of Fruit and or vegetables. After the ritual is concluded, you should at least eat some of the produce. You may cast the rest of it to nature. Ramiel: For this angel, please find a stone, it doesn't have to be huge but one that has some heft to it. We will be pouring wine and or water and olive oil on the stone as an offering. After the ritual is concluded, find a place to set the stone. Again, in nature is best, if you have a nice hidden corner, please either place it there or bury it. If you do not have access to natural setting in your  abode, if there is any way you can get to a park and set it there, that would be ideal. It does not

have to be right as the ritual concludes but please do so as soon as possible. Kochaviel: For this angel we will offer Frankincense and Myrrh, I tend to not be a stickler about whether the Frankincense is real or not. IN THIS CASE, I will make an exception. You should use authentic frankincense. After the ritual is concluded, save some of the ashes of the incense in a  pouch or small plastic bag and place it under your pillow or bed. Tamiell: For this angel, we will offer a cup or goblet of water; he is, after all, an Angel of the deep. You will also need some black dye. You can find nontoxic ones online. We will use him to curse your enemy. After the ritual is concluded, you let the water sit on your altar for as long as you wish. When you feel ready, you may pour the water down the toilet. Danell: sometimes known as Daniel: For this angel we will offer red meat as an offering,  preferably cooked. After the ritual is concluded, you can either cast the meat in nature or throw it out if you do not have access to a natural setting. Ezekiel: We will not make a direct offering to this angel but rather perform the ritual during a storm. I would do it indoors since it will be safer to do. We will be dedicating the storm to this angel. Barakiel: an offering of Fruit and or vegetables. After the ritual is concluded, you can either cast the fruit in nature or throw it out if you do not have access to a natural setting. Azazel: We will be offering goat milk or goat cheese to his angel. I would have said goat meat  but I do not believe it is readily accessible. After the ritual is concluded, you can either cast the goats milk or cheese in nature or throw it out if you do not have access to a natural setting. Armaros: For this angel we will offer red meat as an offering, preferably cooked. After the ritual is concluded, you can either cast the meat in nature or throw it out if you do not have access to a natural setting. Batarel: Batarel (Batariel, Badariel, Batrael, Batarjal, Metarel)--Not much is known about this angel, he is usually used in ceremonial magic rites. Since he does not have a specific purpose, we will not include him in a ritual at this time. You can find a reference of him in the book by A.E Waite, the book of Black Magick and Pacts, his name is found on a talisman in the book. Ananel: pronounced Hananel , For this angel we will offer red meat as an offering, preferably cooked. After the ritual is concluded, you can either cast the meat in nature or throw it out if you do not have access to a natural setting. Zakiel: For this angel, we will offer flour and water, mix it together. The flour and the water will  bind together. After the ritual is concluded, you can either cast the mixture in nature or throw it out

if you do not have access to a natural setting. Shamsiel: For this angel, we will offer a cup or goblet of water. After the ritual is concluded,  please drink all the water. Satarel: an offering of Fruit and or vegetables. After the ritual is concluded, you should eat some of the fruit and or vegetables. If you cannot finish it all, please discard it in nature if you can. Turel: an offering of Jewelry will be given to this angel. Make sure the piece of jewelry it is not one you wear often. After the ritual is concluded, wrap the piece of jewelry and place it in a hidden place until your request in granted. Jomjael: His name is really pronounced Yomyael, meaning, day of God. Since he does not have a specific purpose, we will not include him in a ritual at this time. Sariel: For this angel we will offer Frankincense and Myrrh, I tend to not be a stickler about whether the Frankincense is real or not. IN THIS CASE, I will make an exception. You should use authentic frankincense. The ritual we will perform will be done on the full moon. After the ritual is concluded, sprinkle some of the ash around the house, even closets and place some on your  forehead. If you are placing it on your forehead, do so at night so you can fall asleep with the ash on you.  Now that we have covered that, let us now proceed to the rituals. Each ritual will be a separate chapter.

Samyaza – To Cast a Spell on Someone Samyaza is very powerful, so please take caution when you call upon him. The ritual instructions are as such: Get a Picture of the person you want to cast a spell on. If you don’t have a picture, please write out their full name, including nicknames than you know they use. You would preferably write it on  parchment paper, I use this brand because it is quite nice. Roylco R15286 Antique Paper, 8-3/4 x 11" Size. Place the picture and or the name of the picture at the center of your altar. Prepare the lamb or beef meat and set it on a plate or as is ON TOP of the person’s picture or  name. The meat must be cooked and even slightly burnt will do. Light two black candles and place one on either side of the offering. Light incense, I prefer frankincense and Myrrh, but for this ritual you can use one that you find helps you focus.  Now simply relax for a moment and think of the person you wish to cast a spell on and be clear as to what it is you want this ritual to accomplish. You do not want to call upon Samyaza if you are not ready.  Now preferably out loud, say Samyaza’s name repeatedly, at any volume or cadence you feel comfortable with. Within a short period of time, you will feel his presence. I tend to feel him as a colder energy. Once you sense him, stand facing east and say the following: “ Oh Great Samyaza, leader of those who have rebelled against God, I call upon you to cast a spell on _________________ for you are indeed the master of control and the seducer that has caused the fall of mankind. In Your Name of Samyaza, Defiler of the Earth, whose own image and likeness pervades the sons of man, I invite your Forces of Darkness to cast the spell on _________________ for the purpose of ____________________________. Please accept my offe ring of this flesh to you. May it please you. So mote it be.”  Now think again of this person, really think of them and the spell you want to cast on them. Sit with that for as long as you wish. When you are finished, thank Samyaza IN YOUR OWN WORDS. It must be authentic. Once completed, let the candles and incense burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, you can either cast the meat in nature or throw it out if you do not

have access to a natural setting. As an aside, I would at least try to keep it on the altar overnight. As far as the image of the name of that person, you may fold it up and place it in a hidden place. Thus concludes this ritual. As you can see and as in all my work, there will be no need for more elaborate rituals. Now, you can certainly make these rituals longer if you wish and add elements that resonate with you. HOWEVER, do not call on any other spirit during this ritual, only Samyaza should be the focus.

Arakiel – Earth Magick For Whatever Purpose You Wish The ritual instructions are as such: This ritual will be a tad more general, you can use it for whatever you wish. In this example, I will use him for healing. Yes, even demons are healers. Write down on the parchment paper the health issue you need healing for. It can also be emotional in nature. Prepare the fruits and or vegetables. You can either leave them in their natural state or you can cut them up since you will be required to eat some of it at the conclusion of the ritual. Light four candles, one at each corner of the altar or you can place all four side by side. 1 Green, 1 Yellow, 1 Red and 1 blue. Each of these represents the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water  respectively. Light incense, I prefer frankincense and Myrrh, but for this ritual you can use one that you find helps you focus.  Now simply relax for a moment and think of what it is you need healing for. You can visualize this for another as well. Once you are feeling present and focused. Call upon the demons of the directions to witness the ritual. North: Egyn, great and terrible one, I call upon you, great demon of the north to witness. West: Paymon, great spirit of the netherworld, I call upon you great spirit of the west to itness. South: Amaimon, cunning adversary of the light, I call upon you great spirit of the South to itness. East: Oriens, knower of all things past, present and future. I call upon you great spirit of the East to witness. Allow yourself to feel their presence. Now call upon Arakiel: “Oh Fallen healer, Arakiel, knower of all that the earth contains and her secrets. I call upon you to harness the healing powers of the earth to heal me. For you are indeed the master of  all her secrets, teach me her secre ts as you once taught at the dawn of time. Do my bidding as commanded by me and the cardinal demons, your maste rs. So mote it be.”  Now think again of your need for healing and sit with it for as long as you like.

When you are finished, thank Arakiel IN YOUR OWN WORDS. It must be authentic. Once completed, let the candles and incense burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, consume some or all the fruits and or vegetables and allow yourself  to feel their healing essence. Take the paper which contained the issue at hand and burn it safely and scatter the ashes to the winds Thus concludes this ritual.

Ramiel – To Develop Psychic Visions I would like to warn you about performing this ritual. We often think we would like to have psychic visions but we may not be ready for what we see. If you are confident that you wish to have such visions, you may proceed at your own risk. Take a bowl and place a stone in the middle of it. It is part of the offering. Light two candles, one silver and one white and place one on either side of the offering. Light incense, I prefer frankincense and Myrrh, but for this ritual you can use one that you find helps you focus.  Now simply relax for a moment and think of the desire for psychic visions and perceptions. Do you really need it? Are you truly ready? Think about this carefully.  Now, as you pour some wine/water and the oil over the stone say the following: “Ramiel, knower of secret and bestower of visions, I implore you to grant me the second sight. Grant me the e yes to see and ears to hear as you have granted to the men of old. Fallen one, you know all things, now teach me. So mote it be.”  Now think again of your need for this special second sight and why you need it. When you are finished, thank Ramiel IN YOUR OWN WORDS. It must be authentic. Once completed, let the candles and incense burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, find a place to set the stone. Again, in nature is best, if you have a nice hidden corner, please either place it there or bury it. If you do not have access to natural setting in your abode, if there is any way you can get to a park and set it there, that would be ideal. It does not have to be right as the ritual concludes but please do so as soon as possible. Thus concludes this ritual.

Kochaviel – To Obtain Knowledge of the Future Through Divination There are various forms of divination as I am sure you know. Some love to use the Tarot, some the Rune and some through pendulum work. I happen to love those three the most, especially the Runes. Although Runes are more like the I-Ching in the sense that it gives you advice, it can also  be used as a source of future knowledge. You can pick any method you like, I will choose Runes in this instance. Since this angel is one of Astrology, we will incorporate astrological elements with Runes. Let us proceed:  You will need a copy of your natal chart. This need not be difficult. There are several sites in which you can obtain them for free. You will need to input the place and time of your birth. If you do not know the time, you can use 12:00 AM. Here is a site that offers them for free. Please scroll down to the chart itself and either take an image capture and print it out, or print out the whole  page. There will be a lot of commentary once you generate the chart, but for this ritual, please focus only on the chart. http://astro.cafeastrology.com/natal.php You can use another service if you like. Once printed, please place at the center of the altar. This is your astrological chart and through it we will call forth the angel Kochaviel. It will also serve as a talisman for you. Light two candles, one white and one that resonates with you, so for example, if you like orange, use that color. Place them on either side of the natal chart.  Now think of the issue you need to know more about through divination. If you don’t have one issue but just want to hone the ability, think about that instead. Is your desire strong? Are you ready to have such a skill? It does come with great responsibility.  Now call upon the Angel Kochaviel. “Oh Holy Star of God, Kochaviel, diviner of the future through the stars! I give you thanks for coming to me this day/night. I present to you my chart, the e sse nce of my being. I implore you, that through it, you will enter a sacred agreement with me. I humbly ask you to give me the power to see events that have long since passed and events yet to come. Charge this chart, charge this tarot/rune/pendulum with your essence that I may divine these things. I offer you here, the purest of incense, I offer you my chart as a token of our agreement this day/night.”  Now pull out 4 Runes/Tarot cards or take out your pendulum and think of the issue you need clarity on. Take them out one by one and place them from right to left. The right card/rune being the first

one to read. Place them in front of the natal chart.  Now that they are placed out, if you do not know their meaning by heart, read about them and take note if they apply to the issue at hand. Once done, release Kochaviel in your own words, it must be authentic. Once the candles and incense have burned down, take some ash from the incense and fold up the natal chart and place them into a pouch of any color. You can carry it with you, but I suggest as stated earlier that you place it under your pillow. Thus concludes this ritual.

Tamiel – Cursing of Enemies This angel is very powerful, he has survived destruction twice and he has power over the deep. You want to be sure the enemy you curse is truly someone who you wish ill. Get a Picture of the person you want to curse. If you don’t have a picture, please write out their full name, including nicknames that you know they use. You would preferably write it on parchment  paper, I use this brand because it is quite nice. Roylco R15286 Antique Paper, 8-3/4 x 11" Size Place the picture and or the name of the picture at the center of your altar. Prepare the water offering. Place the black dye in it and let the water turn pitch black. You can  place the water goblet on top of the image or name of the person. Light two black candles and place one on either side of the offering and picture. Light incense, I prefer frankincense and Myrrh, but for this ritual you can use one that you find helps you focus.  Now simply relax for a moment and think of the person you wish to curse.  Now say the following “Oh Great Tamiel, twice dead and twice resurrected, I call upon you to curse  _________________ for you take delight in the misery of those who betray your servants. In Name of your leader, Samyaza, Defiler of the Earth, I implore you to place a curse on  _________________. Please accept my offe ring of this darkened water to you. May it please you. So mote it be.”  Now think again of this person, really think of them and the anger you have for them. Channel that anger into the water. Sit with that for as long as you wish.  Now take a few drops of the water and drip it on the name or the picture of the person. This will solidify the curse. When you are finished, thank Tamiel in your own words. Once completed, let the candles and incense burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, you let the water sit on your altar for as long as you wish. When you feel ready, you may pour the water down the toilet alone with the name of the person or picture. Thus concludes this ritual.

Danell – To Help with Legal Pursuits Please write out the main legal issue you need help with AND the outcome you desire. You would  preferably write it on parchment paper, I use this brand because it is quite nice. Roylco R15286 Antique Paper, 8-3/4 x 11" Size Place this piece of paper at the center of your altar. Prepare the lamb or beef meat and set it on a plate ON TOP of the price of paper with your legal issue. The meat must be cooked and even slightly burnt will do. Light two candles, one black and one red and place one on either side of the offering. Light incense, I prefer frankincense and Myrrh, but for this ritual you can use one that you find helps you focus.  Now simply relax for a moment on our legal issue, think about the outcome you desire. Visualize it as clear as humanly possible. If you can’t visualize with your eyes open, then try with your eyes open. If you still can’t, you can move the offering to the side and focus on the words you wrote on the paper that contains your intended outcome. Once you feel you have it well in your mind. Say the following: “Danell, the Angel of Judgment, I come to you as your servant asking for Your powerful help, from the legal problem/cases that are before me. I am dire nee d of this issues be resolved in the manner in which I please. Re move this burden from me. I know you can for you are one of the fallen ones from heave n who taught mankind all arts including those that repel undue udgements, He lp me to be made whole and be vindicate d in this situation. Call forth your minions to watch over me and protect me. Before you I offer the blood of a sacrificial offering for I know, in flesh you adore. So Mote it be. “  Now think again of this legal issue and the intended outcome of your wish. When you are finished, thank Daniel. It must be authentic. Once completed, let the candles and incense burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, you can either cast the meat in nature or throw it out if you do not have access to a natural setting. You can keep it on your altar if you like but I suggest ridden yourself of it ASAP. As far as the text with your intended outcome, keep that as a talisman on your person as you discuss your case or when you are to appear in a legal setting. DO NOT LET ANYONE SEE IT. Thus concludes this ritual.

Ezekiel – To Help Make Major Changes in Life For this ritual, we will be using a storm to fuel our ritual. There is no official offering, the use of  the storm feds the energy and serves in many ways as an offering unto itself. As a word of caution – Storms can be very dangerous so if you are going to perform storm magick as a storm is passing over you, take the necessary precautions so as not to incur harm upon yourself or others. But I will assume we will be indoors for this and thus I will present the ritual for that scenario. Do not be surprised that as you perform this ritual, the storm gets stronger. It’s happened to me countless times and is ve ry common in storm magick in general. Step one, I guess is obvious, make sure you are in the midst of a storm. It can be at any time of the day. Storm magick can work day and night. This ritual will be very simple. All you will need is two candles, one orange and one Yellow and  place them in the center of your altar. Light them. Preferably you will do this in a room that has a window you can look out of. Just be careful not to get too close in the event the storm is strong enough to shatter the window. Like a prior ritual, we will call upon the demons of the four quarters as witness to this ritual. North: Egyn, great and terrible one, I call upon you, great demon of the north to witness. West: Paymon, great spirit of the netherworld, I call upon you great spirit of the west to itness. South: Amaimon, cunning adversary of the light, I call upon you great spirit of the South to itness. East: Oriens, knower of all things past, present and future. I call upon you great spirit of the East to witness.  Now just feel the energy of the storm. If the window is open, smell the air in the wind, hear the thunder. Now think of what it is you need to change in your life. Really feel it, even if the feeling is a desperate one, sit with it for a moment.  Now call upon Ezekiel: “Ezekiel by the powers of Air, Water, Fire, and Earth, East, West, South, and North, I implore you transfer the power of this storm into me so I may conquer  ___________ and start my life anew. You have the se crets of the clouds and know its power on the endeavors of man. I implore you by the name of your master Samyaza and by the deeds of Enoch that you make it so. So mote it be.”  Now sit and enjoy the storm, hear it, smell it, see it. Meditate on it. Once you have had your fill;

thank Ezekiel in your own words. You may let the candles burn to completion. Thus concludes this ritual.

Barakiel – To Help Gain Cosmic Wisdom In this ritual, we find another angel who taught the sons and daughters of men astrology and the magick of the stars and therefore, we will use a very similar ritual to Kochaviel, but with several significant changes. Let us proceed:  You will need a copy of your natal chart. This need not be difficult. There are several sites in which you can obtain them for free. You will need to input the place and time of your birth. If you do not know the time, you can use 12:00 AM. Here is a site that offers them for free. Please scroll down to the chart itself and either take an image capture and print it out, or print out the whole  page. There will be a lot of commentary once you generate the chart, but for this ritual, please focus only on the chart. http://astro.cafeastrology.com/natal.php You can use another service if you like. Once printed, please place at the center of the altar. Have a notebook and pen ready, this ritual will employ automatic writing. Light two candles, one white and one that resonates with you, so for example, if you like orange, use that color. Place them on either side of the natal chart.  Now think of the need to learn the secrets of the cosmos, in many ways this can be occult knowledge but also knowledge of the physical cosmos.  Now call upon the Angel Barakiel: “Celestial Barakiel, diviner of the future and knower of the four corners of the universe. I give you thanks for coming to me this day/night. I present to you my chart, the esse nce of my being. I implore you, that through it, you will enter a sacred agree ment with me. I humbly ask you to give me the power to learn the secrets of the great cosmos. Charge this chart. Whisper into my mind the secrets you bestowed upon the earliest of mankind. I offer you here, fruits and produce of the earth, I offer you my chart as a token of our agreement this day/night.” Open the notebook and pick up the pen. Allow for words to flow, don’t second guess it. Even if it is gibberish, even if it sounds like you. Just keep writing. If you start doubting it will not work. Even if you write SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, just write it. Once done, release Barakiel in your own words, it must be authentic.

You will need to perform this ritual often, since he will relay messages a little at a time. I  personally have 7 pages of words from him. The first page and a half are just symbols and words of no apparent significance, but the rest has a few interesting tidbits of knowledge. It took 3 months to get to that point. It may not take that long for you, repetition is key. Once the candles have burned down, you may put away your natal chart. Leave the fruit and  produce on the altar for 3 days. Once the 3 days have gone by, discard in nature. As an aside, you can repeat this ritual again over those three days with the same offerings. Thus concludes this ritual.

Azazel – To Help Conquer Your Enemies Azazel is VERY powerful, be ready when working with him. He is not a subtle energy. This ritual should be done on a Saturday night. Get a Picture of your enemy. If you don’t have a picture, please write out their full name if you know it, including nicknames that you know they use. You would preferably write it on parchment  paper, I use this brand because it is quite nice. Roylco R15286 Antique Paper, 8-3/4 x 11" Size Place the picture and or the name of the picture at the center of your altar. Prepare the goat cheese or milk or meat if you have it ON top of the image. Light two black candles and place one on either side of the offering and picture. You can use incense here if you like, but it is not necessary unless otherwise noted.  Now simply relax for a moment and think of your enemy. I mean really think about them and feel consumed by them.  Now say the following “Oh fearsome Azaz el, the prince of the darkest of dark netherworlds, the inspirer of dread in the hearts of man, I call upon you to destroy _________________ for you take delight in the their destruction. Oh Defiler of the Earth, I implore you to crush _________________. Please accept my offe ring of this Goat. May it please your lust. So mote it be.”  Now think again of this person, really think of them and the anger you have for them. Channel that anger. When you are finished, thank Azazel in your own words. Once completed, let the candles and incense if lit, burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, discard the offering in nature and tear up the picture or paper with your enemy’s, name on it and watch it flush down the toilet. Be there to watch it. Thus concludes this ritual.

 Armaros – To Remove a Curse or Hex  Armaros is known as the “resolver of enchantments” and therefore we will use him for that  purpose. Unfortunately, there are those who simply do not like us and in their dislike for us, they use magick  to harm us via curses and hexes. It is a lot more common than you can imagine. I have received email from at least two dozen people who found out they were cursed by people who they had no clue even dabbled in the occult. It’s amazing really. You can walk down the street and see just normal ever day people going about their day in the most unassuming manner. Yet, they can be the most powerful of magicians with hearts oozing with hatred and malice. In this ritual, we will  break their hold on you. If you have a special setup for altar, please arrange it as you like it. Place a piece of cooked and even slightly burnt red meat at the center of the altar. Please place one white and one black candle on either side of the offering. Light some frankincense to suffuse the air with the holy scent. For this ritual, you will need frankincense oil and access to a shower or bath tub. A tub is  preferred. You will also need a little bit of salt as well for placing in the water as well, not very much, even a teaspoon is fine Pour some of this oil in a cup or jar, not too much, just enough to add to a bath. (If you are sensitive to the oil, you can bypass this step and simply use a CLEANSED quartz crystal, but do know that if you use a crystal, you will need to get rid of it afterwards so make sure it is not one that you cherish.) To consecrate the oil, simply mentioned the name ARMAROS 7 times over it and imagine his energy infuse it.  Now go and run your tub, as it fills, pour the oil and salt into the tub and let it incorporate in the water. Over the water say the following: “Armaros, fallen one from heaven and the resolver of enchantments, I implore you in the name of your maste r Samyaz a. I implore you that you infuse this wate r, salt and oil with your power. As you, I immerse in this water, I implore that you put to flight and drive away the evil that has been cursed and hexed upon me, release me from the clutches of my enemy’s power

and return upon them with thrice great force what they have cursed and hexed upon me. In the name of Samyaza, you will do this oh great remover of enchantments. So mote it be”  Now immerse yourself in the water and allow yourself become free of the chains of any curses you feel are upon you. Feel the weight that has been lifted off of you. Remain in this state for as long as you wish. When you are finished, thank Armaros in your own words. Once completed, let the candles and incense if lit, burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, discard the offering in nature. If you can leave it on the altar  overnight that would be great, but if you can’t, you may safely discard it. Thus concludes this ritual.

Ananel – To Attract a Person  This angel, as mentioned earlier in the book is considered both “Good” and “Evil”. We will use him to attract someone to you. It can be either for romantic purposes or other. I will use him for  romantic purposes. More specifically to attract a certain someone you desire. This ritual should be done on a Friday night. Get a Picture of the person you are looking to attract. If you don’t have a picture, please write out their full name if you know it, including nicknames that you know they use. You would preferably write it on parchment paper, I use this brand because it is quite nice. Roylco R15286 Antique Paper, 8-3/4 x 11" Size Place the picture and or the name of the picture at the center of your altar. Prepare the red meat, slightly burn it if you can and place it on top of the name of the person or  their picture. Light two red candles and place one on either side of the offering and picture. You can use incense here if you like, but it is not necessary unless otherwise noted. When I  performed love magick, I tended to use Sandalwood, but that was just my preference.  Now simply relax for a moment and think of the one you want to attract. I mean really think about them and feel that love and or lust for them. Really imagine them in any way you feel fit.  Now say the following “Oh Ananel, the princely angel of love, the inspirer of love and lust in the hearts of mankind, I call upon you to bring _________________ to me, for you take delight in bringing love to your supplicants. Oh ensnarer of man and woman, I implore you to bring  _________________ to me. Please accept my burnt offe ring. May it please you. So mote it be.”  Now think again of this person, really think of them and your desire to attract them. When you are finished, thank Ananel in your own words. Once completed, let the candles and incense if lit, burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, discard the offering in nature and place the name or the picture of the  person in a place where no one can find it, at least until this person is yours. Thus concludes this ritual.

Zakiel – To Bind Someone to Do Your Will Get a Picture of the person you want to bind. If you don’t have a picture, please write out their full name if you know it, including nicknames that you know they use. You would preferably write it on  parchment paper, I use this brand because it is quite nice. Roylco R15286 Antique Paper, 8-3/4 x 11" Size Place the picture and or the name of the picture at the center of your altar. Mix the flour and water until the water binds well to the flour to make a very sticky dough.  Now place the picture of the person or the paper with their name INSIDE the dough or paste of the flour and water mixture. Make sure it sticks well to the name or the picture. Light two candles; one black and one red and place one on either side of the offering and picture. You can use incense here if you like, but it is not necessary unless otherwise noted.  Now simply relax for a moment and think of the person you want to bind and what you want them to do.  Now say the following “Zakiel, the imprisoner of humanity, the inspirer of angst and frustration in the hearts of  man, I call upon you to bind _________________ for you take delight in imprisoning the soul of a person until they are subdued. Oh Subduer, do this for me in the name of your maste r Samyaza, I implore you to bind and subdue _________________ to do my will. Please accept my offering of this grain and water. May it please your restless soul. So mote it be.”  Now think again of this person, really think of them and what it is you want to bind them for. When you are finished, thank Zakiel in your own words. Once completed, let the candles and incense if lit, burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, discard the offering in a place that it will be hidden. If you feel that the picture or name might be found, try to cut it up, but make sure the dough is very much stuck  to it. Thus concludes this ritual.

 Shamsiel – For Self-Empowerment Shamsiel is a very empowering spirit with an impressive Spiritual “Resume”. If you are looking to  be self-empowered and need a boost, this angel can help you. Get a Picture of yourself, preferably one you like. If you do not have a picture, use a small mirror  and place at the center of the altar. Place the cup or goblet of water in front of the picture. Light two candles; one yellow and one orange and place one on either side of Your picture. You can use incense here if you like, but it is not necessary unless otherwise noted.  Now simply relax for a moment and think of your need for self-empowerment. Why do you need it? Is it for something specific? Or Just a general need so you can live a fuller life?  Now say the following words to call forth Shamsiel: “Oh, Great and Mighty angel of the Sun, Shamsiel, I call you today to bestow upon me your shining rays. In the name of your maste r Samyaz a and in the name and deeds of Enoch make is so I will always walk in your radiance and power. Give me your strength. Make me like you. You are within me. All who see me, will see you in me. I implore you, give me the power. To you I give this cup of precious water, the conveyer of your power. So mote it be”  Now think again of your need for self-empowerment. Why do you need it?  Now Look at your picture and or in the mirror and focus on your face and say the name Shamsiel 7 times. Do you feel a change in you?  Now lift the cup and drink the water. Drink it all. When you are finished, thank Shamsiel in your own words. Once completed, let the candles and incense if lit, burn to completion. Thus concludes this ritual.

 Satarel – To Gain Occult Wisdom This angel is amazing, he truly does communicate occult knowledge. His name, after all means” hidden of God”. For some he communicates directly and with others through dreams and yet for  others through intuitions and flashes of insight. The latter is how he has worked for me. Let us proceed: Have a notebook and pen ready, you may gain a sudden flash of insight or feel the need suddenly to write. Heed it when you get the urge. Prepare the produce and place them in the middle of the altar. Light two candles, one white and one that resonates with you, so for example, if you like orange, use that color. Place them on either side of the offering.  Now think of the need to learn occult knowledge. Occult wisdom comes in many forms so please do not discount what you hear from this great angel.  Now call upon the Angel Satarel: “Oh, Hidden Angel of God, knower of all things occult and hidden. I give you thanks for coming to me this day/night. I implore you, that through my sheer desire to learn, that you ill bestow upon me hidden wisdom. I humbly ask you to give me the ability and capacity to learn the secrets of the great unknown. Whisper into my minds e ye the se crets you bestowed upon the earliest of mankind. I offer you here, fruits and produce of the earth, I offer you my mind as a token of our agreement this day/night.” Open the notebook and pick up the pen. And see if you get anything. It may not come this very night, you may get the knowledge in the other forms I stated at the beginning of this ritual. I simply suggest the notebook now just in case you do get knowledge immediately. Write down whatever  comes to you. Although this ritual is not so much automatic writing in nature, it might become so. Keep your mind open. Once done, Thank Satarel in your own words, it must be authentic. Once the candles have burned down, Leave the fruit and produce on the altar for 1 day. Once the day has come and gone, eat some of the produce and cast the rest to nature. Thus concludes this ritual.

Turel – To Gain Financial Prosperity In this ritual, we will call upon Turel, the rock of God to help bring financial prosperity in your  life and make it solid. Let us proceed: Have some jewelry or gold leaf handy. If you are using Jewelry, please make sure it is not a piece you wear all the time since we are going to need to hide it until you see the results you desire. You will also need a pouch to put it in. Any pouch will do. Place the jewelry and the pouch at the center of the altar. Light two candles, one gold and one Silver. Place them on either side of the offering.  Now think of the need to gain financial prosperity. Preferably it will be a general prosperity in which gives relief to every part of your life. However, if it is for one special aspect, that is fine too. We just want to make sure it is a sustainable and solid prosperity and not just a quick fix.  Now call upon the Angel Turel: “Turel, great angel of Jupiter, hear me. Hear me in the name of your master Samyaza, hear me in the name of the prophet Enoch, hear me in the name of all the hosts of heaven and the netherworlds. I call upon you to bestow on me mate rial wealth and prosperity. Give me what I ask for, I am in dire need. Help guide me in a way that I may acquire all the material wealth I desire for the good of myself and for the good of all. In the name of Samyaza . I implore and command you to start right now and bring these things to me. I present before you now, gold/Jewelry as an offering. So mote it be.” Place the gold or jewelry in the pouch. Hold the pouch close to your heart and think of your need for material prosperity to flow in your  life. Once done, Thank Turel in your own words, it must be authentic for this ritual to work. Once the candles have burned down, take the pouch off the altar and hide it in a place where no one can see it. This is of the utmost importance, even if it means you need to bury it somewhere. It must be hidden until you get what it is you desire. Thus concludes this ritual.

Sariel – To Help Clear and Banish Spirits That Won’t Go Away This ritual should be done on the full moon. If you can’t do this EXACTLY at the hour it becomes full, please do it the same day or night. Place in the middle of the altar, AUTHENTIC Frankincense and Myrrh. As I have mentioned I am lenient about “fake” incense in general, but in this case, we need the incense to be authentic. Light two black candles and place one on either side of the offering.  Now simply relax for a moment and compose yourself. It is indeed unsettling when a spirit is haunting you. But do think of the issue, do not fear it.  Now HUMBLY ask Sariel to help you. “ Sariel, you angel of the moon and of magick. I humbly ask you for your assistance. I have been plagued by a spirit/demon/Jinn/poltergeist that has not left me alone. Wherever I turn, it causes me fear and harm. I ask you with your immense lunar power to seize this spirit and force it from my presence and it will never come back to haunt me again. In the name and itness of your great master Samyaza, so let it be so”.  Now you will address the spirit itself. Do not be afraid, you are now protected. With great force and preferably out loud, tell the spirit to leave in the name of Sariel and to never return lest they experience the wrath of the fallen angel. If you need to walk around the room or house and do this,  by all means do so. Do not be afraid! As a word of caution, if the spirit you just banished was a result of a ritual you performed in the recent or distant past, you MUST NOT CALL UPON THEM AGAIN. It will not be good to do so. If you are compelling it to leave in the name of Sariel and then call it back at a future date you are asking for trouble. If you have read my books, you know I don’t give very stern warning, but this time, I feel that I must. When you are finished, thank Sariel in your own words. Once completed, let the candles and incense if lit, burn to completion. After the ritual is concluded, sprinkle some of the ash around the house, even closets and place some on your forehead. If you are placing it on your forehead, do so at night so you can fall asleep with the ash on you. Yu may wash it off the next morning. Thus concludes this ritual.

Conclusion  There you have it my friends. We took quite a journey into the interesting world of the Watchers. I realize that I touched upon a lot of things. I did so because I wanted everyone to walk away with something. For some, the academic was all they were looking for, for others, the rituals were the key. I did my best to give everyone something.
