of Ilām and Īmān i the cience of Iḥān (piritual excellence), a it ubject matter deal with direct witneing and vigilance, and cloene and elf-reckoning. The eence and fundament of thoe qualitie i none other than love—love of Allāh, love in Allāh, love for Allāh, love by Allāh, love from Allāh, love with Allāh. Without attaining love there i no hope in ever reaching the sation of Iḥān, and without acquiring love there will be no attainment of lofty level in the Hereafter. Moreover, becaue of love’ exalted sation and poition, viion viio n hav havee turne turned d away away from it fatig fatigued, ued, and api apiratio ration n hav havee flagge flagged, d,

and tongue have become heavy with bold claim regarding it. When viion become viion become myopic and apirat apiration ion become lisle lislene, ne, they come between the peron and love, even though the tongue appear active in eeking it. Thoe who carry the day and who are at the foremos in thi race are our maser among the Prophet and their heir from the aint ( Awliyā ) who have diolved their ego through the rigor of piritual dicipline, and who have tased the weetne of foraking bae deire. Their intene thirs could only be quenched by a midday thirs, and √

their oul could only experience expanion through leeplene in dark night—and o it wa that the door of unveiling were opened ope ned for them, followed by the door of witneing, after arduou journeying and sriving, and after the veil of created being were averted from their eye, and after the adornment of the lower world wa wrapped

up and taken away from them. Thu their innermos-elve at firmly atop bed of cloene and witneing, and their concioune wa encircled in the heaven of intimate dicoure and entreatie to the























waysation of cloene to the Divine, and when they finally drank from the cup of Divine witneing and experienced the light of their ecret, and when they finally took repoe in the gathering of intimacy in the Holy Preence—after all of that, the well-pring of mysical cience and widom burs forth from within them, and the un of gnoi and mercy dawned upon them. Thu in witneing the Beloved they became abent from love; in witneing the Witneed they became abent from witneing; in witneing the Watcher they became abent from watchfulne; in witneing the Reckoner they became abent from reckoning; in witneing the All-Knower they became abent from knowledge; in witneing the Near they became abent from nearne! They expreed their piritual ecsay like one utterly conumed, and they divulged ome of the ecret of their affirmation of Divine unity ( tawḥīd ) like one overtaken by joy. They poke about Divine unity via a sate of direct witneing and with a tongue of experiential tase, and with ymbolic and alluive expreion ince their experience could not be put into word. Included among thee people are the People of Allāh ( Ahlullāh) from the cholar and maser of gnoi, tase, and piritual excellence— thoe in whoe heart the valley of knowledge from the heavenly locu of revelation and the repoitory of the truth and the ultimate realitie (not goip and hearay) flowed into the ocean of their heart—and by thi I mean no other than the Muḥammadan Heart and the Aḥmadan Aḥmada n Secret, may Allāh Mos High end prayer and peace upon him, hi Family, and hi wive!—for when hi heart brimmed, multiple channel of flowing gnoi were formed, and multiple tree grew and became ignpos, each peron receiving in accordance with hi receptivity and purity of heart and oul. Some of the gnosic took up the craft of poetry in order to give eloquent expreion to the tremendou gift they received and to























love for Hi Meenger s and hi Pure Family, epecially our maser from the People of the Cloak (Ahl al-Kiā —Sayyidunā Alī, Fāṭima, al-Ḥaan, and al-Ḥuayn), peace be upon them, and hi pure wive from the Mother of the Believer, epecially our liege lady and beloved mother Khadīja, and our liege lady and mother Ā iha Umm Abdillāh (may Allāh be pleaed with them and make them well-pleaed), and hi enior mos Companion, epecially our maser Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq √

Praie be to thi th i Generou Lord, Who by Hi Divine Widom and Power created the celesial phere, the sar and their consellation, the land and the ea, the mountain and the valley, the animal and vegetation, the latter of which He created fruit therefrom, of varying form and of varying tase, and created their flower which He fahioned in variou hape and cent, and the Jinnkind which He created from mokele fire, and Mankind, Manki nd, of which He did proclaim: And certainly, We have honored (the) children of Adam and We carried them on the land and the ea, and We have provided them of the good thing and We preferred them over many of thoe whom We have created (with) preference. 1

Meenger of the Uneen and the Unheard s from He who Know and Knew Who I now a He alway Wa and Know now a He alway Knew! The Infinite, True, howering our heart like morning dew On dry blade of gra, coloring the heart with a thouand hue!
