PART TWO: THE EXTERIOR 30. A New Beginning Where do we head from here? A lot of stuff has been written about spirituality and higher consciousness. There is enough for you to think about in this book alone. Never mind the millions of other things you could read. A lot of the stuff presented in this book borders on the ridiculous. When you really look at it all the vast field of enlightenment is often a very ridiculous place. The very common misconception is that someone enlightened having being cleared of all prior conditioning and having overthrown the so called ego is therefore someone without character. However the opposite is more often true. The human character suffers from it’s total reliance on being a part of the general herd consciousness. Freed totally from society’s conditioning, beyond an intellectual position, the newly enlightened individual looks at life anew with the eyes of wonderment marvelling in the eternal miracle that is true existence. More than anything the world is a ridiculous place. Those who can see that can more easily navigate around well, the seriousness of it all. Being so stressed out about little ridiculous things is the destiny of the average human being. Likewise the enlightened individual is considered the one who is ridiculous because that individual has faith in the way that things will transpire. For the average human being the enlightened individual’s contentment with the way things are and will be, is most often judged to be overly simplistic and superstitious. Really in all ways idiotic and more so not something that is natural because the so called enlightened person must at all times be trying to force himself to be as he has told himself he is. At peace. What if some people have truly found themselves in a true state of lasting contentment? What if through the inner journey, through honest self examination, through seeking to find that wavelength that is oneness with things, people arrive somewhere new and entirely different than where most other people are. Thousands and thousands of books have been written about this subject. As well this subject encompasses the entire span of human existence. In all parts of the world people have thought about all this for a long time. The subject of higher consciousness is maybe truly something that you may choose to ignore. But doing that may not be the wisest move that you could make.
Something written by Patricia Hayes on the benefits of enlightenment: You want to feel your goodness, express your love and wisdom every day in every way and Create. . Create. . Create. And if, on the path of your spiritual journey, you feel down or upset, you want to be able to understand why so you can learn more about yourself and let your heart begin to heal the negative emotions and traumatic experiences you are still holding in your karmic body. You want to heal every division within you that separates you from Oneness. You want to be realistic and know that you are polishing a beautiful diamond of God. The diamond is You. The diamond is God's light that you are here on Earth to express. Let these be your desires and all else will be given you. Kalil Gibran http://www.selfenlighten.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=69&Itemid=16
Sounds pretty grand all in all. The expression of enlightenment which has reached it’s most universal peak probably in Buddhism is an intriguing thing. The ideals of the enlightened human being or a ‘Buddha’ are reflected in the art of Buddhism. Especially in the image of the Buddha where the artist tries to endow his or her creation with the expression of one who has found true lasting peace. A sort of natural bliss based on clear thought rather than a smug interpretation of the past or the future as is befit others. The Buddha as someone who has found inner peace and contentment while sitting alone. Finding his true nature within himself. Finding himself an equal part in the oneness of things. How do we start upon this journey confidant that we aren’t wasting our time? Here’s something interesting I found on the internet. If the so called state of enlightenment or higher consciousness is essentially our true nature then it should maybe be incredibly easy for us to return there. Going Beyond Illusion Posted on November 5, 2011 There is only one thing that keeps us from enlightenment – illusion. Our own illusions, the illusions of friends, enemies, society and the planet, that we become absorbed with or aligned to. And so the conclusion to be drawn is, if we’re not enlightened, then we’re living in a self made limited reality, prisoners of our illusions. The personalized structure of illusion is what is referred to in self discovery terms as ego. The ego is a set of hardened fixtures that have developed within each of us – so subtle, so invisible, that we don’t even know we’re seeing life through the warp of these limiting structures, these filters. We assume anything we feel to be truth. We assume any judgments we make to be truth. We assume our ideas and opinions to be based on truth. And all of
this is generated from our desires, attachments and the ensuing expectations. And yet, we continue living as unenlightened beings, not ever questioning the authority of ego. We feel that if our hearts have a “good” intent, then we’re “good” people – as if that somehow alleviates the need to really look at our own egos and question the ego’s authority. And that attitude seems to pardon us from taking responsibility for that fact of our own unique egos and how they shape us, how they continue to keep us in a fixed, judgmental mode, and how they define our existence on this planet. http://enlightenmentisreal.wordpress.com/
“The personalized structure of illusion is what is referred to in self discovery terms as ego. The ego is a set of hardened fixtures that have developed within each of us – so subtle, so invisible, that we don’t even know we’re seeing life through the warp of these limiting structures, these filters.” This article makes some really good points. Just because we may feel that we’re ‘good’ people may not necessarily mean we truly are if our heads are so buried in the deep depths of illusion. Look at how fucked up this world is. The vast majority of people on the planet, yes even rich people, are ‘good’ people. There is just so much shared misconception about everything. You can’t really see the truth until you’ve found it in yourself. This is why a lot of people feel that for the world to really improve there needs to be some sort of global collective shift of consciousness or awakening going on. And that is why a lot of people jumped on the end of the Mayan calendar which will happen in 2012 on winter sosltice with being the dawn of a new age and the coming of collective enlightenment.
31. Happy New Year! Enjoy it. Because it May Be Our Last! With the year 2012 less than 13 hours away some people are again thinking about the end of the Mayan calendar and wondering if this will be the last new year we celebrate. This from wikipedia: The 2012 phenomenon comprises a range of eschatological beliefs according to which cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on December 21, 2012. This date is regarded as the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. Various astronomical alignments and numerological formulae have been proposed as pertaining to this date, though none have been accepted by mainstream scholarship. A New Age interpretation of this transition is that this date marks the start of time in which Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era. Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world or a similar catastrophe. Scenarios suggested for the end of the world include the arrival of the next solar maximum, or Earth's collision with a black hole, passing asteroid or a planet called "Nibiru". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_phenomenon
I don’t know what Nibiru is. Someone I know mentioned it awhile ago but I never asked about it because hey I can’t ask about every crazy thing I hear. From wikipedia again: The idea was first put forward in 1995 by Nancy Lieder, founder of the website ZetaTalk. Lieder describes herself as a contactee with the ability to receive messages from extra-terrestrials from the Zeta Reticuli star system through an implant in her brain. She states that she was chosen to warn mankind that the object would sweep through the inner Solar System in May 2003 (though that date was later abandoned) causing Earth to undergo a pole shift that would destroy most of humanity. The predicted collision has subsequently spread beyond Lieder's website and has been embraced by numerous Internet doomsday groups, most of which link the event to the 2012 phenomenon. Although the name "Nibiru" is derived from the works of the late ancient astronaut writer Zecharia Sitchin and his interpretations of Babylonian and Sumerian mythology, Sitchin denied any connection between his work and various claims of a coming apocalypse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nibiru_collision
Here’s another take on it all: Both the Hopis and Mayans recognize that we are approaching the end of a World Age... In both cases, however, the Hopi and Mayan elders do not prophesy that everything will come to an end. Rather, this is a time of transition from one World Age into another. The message they give concerns our making a choice of how we enter the
future ahead. Our moving through with either resistance or acceptance will determine whether the transition will happen with cataclysmic changes or gradual peace and tranquility. The same theme can be found reflected in the prophecies of many other Native American visionaries from Black Elk to Sun Bear. Joseph Robert Jochmans http://www.adishakti.org/mayan_end_times_prophecy_12-21-2012.htm
Basically opinions differ on what the end of the Mayan calendar means. I am not a mathematician so I am not going to get into the intricacies of Mayan astronomy and logic. Needless to say it looks pretty fascinating and it makes our own understanding of these things look pretty primitive. One of their calendars was based on the movement of the planet Venus. Something written by Carl Johan Calleman (Ph.D) from the website linked to above: Well, to begin with most people probably have a much too limited view of the importance of the Mayan civilization, and Native American traditions generally. In fact, at their height in the 5th to 9th centuries AD, the Mayan cities would be among the largest in the world and developed the most advanced mathematics and astronomy of their day.
Here is something that Calleman said at a conference in Sweden in 2010: "My own view is that this is the last chance that human beings will have to truly align themselves with the cosmic plan. It is now or never and if you do not think that the Conscious Convergence has something to do with you you probably have not studied the Mayan calendar seriously enough. Hence, there can be no proxies for your participation in the transformation of the world as the calendar comes to an end."
Sounds pretty important. It seems kind of self important. Like if you’re not into this like I am you’re missing out on something huge. The same type of thinking makes religious people so validated. I’m better than you, I’m going to heaven, I’m into Jesus and you’re doomed because you’re not. It’s called being spiritual based on external conditions. It’s a lot more prevalent then you may think. Most people do it. Even if it isn’t manifested in something that is seemingly spiritual. It’s a belief or a set of beliefs that people lean on which gives their inherent weakness and avoidance of spiritual truth some sort of credence. Like another definition of the ego. So called rational thinkers can be just as delusional as superstitious ones. Quetzalcoatl taught the ancients all the necessary skills to advance their civilization, from
mathematics and science to agriculture and astronomy, as well as the famous Mayan calendrical formulae which predicts the end of the world to be December 21st 2012. He taught the people to live in peace and then moved on disappearing across the sea, but he promised he would someday return. Unfortunately for the ancient inhabitants of Mexico they mistook the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors and Cortez in 1519 as Quetzalcaotl's return, bringing about their tragic doom.
Who was Quetzalcoatl? Some sort of like alien astronaut who had mistakenly crash landed on Earth? Something interesting I found researching Quetzalcoatl: Connection to Egypt and Sumeria Ancient Mexicans and Egyptians who never met and lived centuries and thousands of miles apart both worshiped feathered-serpent deities, built pyramids and developed a 365-day calendar. Cleopatra, the last Egyptian queen before the Roman conquest of Egypt in 30 BC, saw herself as Isis and wore a gold serpent in her headpiece. In Sumerian Mythology they were a pantheon of good and evil gods and goddesses who came to Earth to create the human race. According to the some resources, these gods came from Nibiru – ‘Planet of the Crossing.’ The Assyrians and Babylonians called it ‘Marduk’, after their chief god. http://heavenawaits.wordpress.com/quetzalcoatl-the-god-behind-the-mayan-prophesiesfor-2012/
Something about the planet Nibiru again. Maybe it’s not so silly. Connected to the planet Venus, and its transit.QUETZALCOATL is supposed to return again, during a conjunction of some sort with the sun. One transit was in 2004, and the next one will be 2012. There have also been other transits in history, when QUETZALCOATL did not return. Possible connection with planet Nibiru? Many involved in research of this kind predict a return date of Nibiru passing Earth coinciding with the Winter Solstice of 2012; specifically at 11.11 UT, 21st December 12, 2012. In 1993 Nasa launched the IRAS telescope which picked up the faint image of a large celestial body 3 times the distance of Pluto in our own solar system.
Apparently the name Lucifer comes from an ancient version of the word Venus. It’s all getting a little spooky now. I love when I speculate something then scroll down the page and then whoomp there it is.
It has been suggested several times by New Agers that the energies of Christ and Quetzalcoatl (Lucifer) are the same or at least closely associated. Lucifer will return as the Christ in 2012? *** Time of enlightenment and global human consciousness? No evil is confronted in this view. People reorienting their consciousness to create positive energy in the world. Really? A big winged snake is coming to fuse us together and make us one with him and the universe?
And: They believe the date 21-12-2012 represents a cosmic event of great note to human spiritual progression. The 2012 conjunction of the winter solstice sun with the dark rift near the galactic centre, and the start of a new precession cycle, and new Maya Long Count.
This type of thinking always gets a little hazy after awhile: Yet most Earth governments and the media do not want him to come, because then they would lose power. I wonder if they know who he really is. Will we eventually meet Quetzal and his friends (aliens- demons) in early 2013, when the Mayan Fifth Sun ends and a Sixth Sun begins? Or will it be somewhat later in 2039 AD, which is a year “One Reed”? Quetzalcoatl always told the Mayans that he would return in a year One Reed, which happens once every 52 years. When Cortes invaded Mexico in 1519 AD, it was a year One Reed. Likewise in 2039 AD, or 520 years after 1519, it will be another year One Reed. But this is all speculation and legend: we don’t know for sure.
More from another website: Was Quetzalcoatl a Human Alien Hybrid? Some sources state that Quetzalcoatl was a tall blond man with blue eyes. This doesn’t sound at all like what you would expect a South American God to look like. Additionally, he is referred to as being the offspring of a God and human woman. http://aliens-2012.com/39/2012-return-of-alien-god-quetzalcoatl/
Maybe Quetzalcoatl was actually an alien spacecraft? This next
link expands upon that thought in an interesting way. What if the imagery surrounding him represents his space craft? http://pushingthepulldoor.blogspot.com/2010/03/quetzalcoatl-was-alienspacecraft_2067.html Now if you were going to worship this “god.” You’d want to build your temple as close to the crash site as possible, right? It turns out that there are a number of sites in Mexico dedicated to the worship of Q. The most important center was in Cholula, where the largest pyramid was dedicated to worshiping him. Figuring ground zero from the crash had to be pretty close to that temple, I went to google maps and entered "Cholula, Puebla, Mexico" in the directions (you can try this out if you want as well). Next I clicked the "Satellite" button so I could see what terrain looked like from overhead. Lo and behold, 3.5 Kilometers to the left of the Great Pyramid of Choula is a giant, mysterious hole in the ground… an anomaly to the terrain surrounding it. Most on board the craft probably died on impact, but some (maybe just one) could have survived. Maybe they jettisoned right before impact, or perhaps one or two actually survived the crash. The survivor(s) would most likely then turn the Aztecs into their “workers,” using them to either help them excavate and rebuild their craft or build a new craft from scratch. In exchange the alien(s) taught the Aztecs everything they knew about calendars, the sky, metal work etc. etc. When the new ship was completed, the alien(s) took the Aztec's greatest minds aboard and blasted off to their next adventure. As legend has it, when Q "took off," Aztec society began to fall.
32. The Real Reason For the Last Two Gulf Wars! In the last chapter we started to delve a little into prophecy which is always shaky ground. I’m not really sure enlightened people even can read the future. I don’t think ultra intelligent (computerized?) even enlightened aliens can either, if they do exist. Sure a so called god, Quetzalcoatl, yes probably an alien (or maybe just a metaphor for a major astrological shift), may say, “I will return in 5200 years when Venus once again makes transit and your calendar ends!” But. I think 5200 years is probably a long time even for an alien. Maybe not. This is really compelling from someone called Marantha. This blog post that I link to is where this person is trying to disprove writing like this: What am I saying? Satan’s power is building toward the climax of 2012 when he will make himself known for the 1000 year rule envisioned by Satanist- 2012: The Transit of Venus across the Sun, the Chinese year of the Dragon, the return of UFO’s, the return of a being appearing in the Earth as Christ, the appearance of the Maitreya, the Return of the Feathered-serpent Quetzalcoatl, global enlightenment movement where everybody suddenly realizes they are a god […]. The veil between the physical world and the spiritual world of demons and angels will be torn. Perhaps we should connect the dots…”
Here’s more: I suggest the bearded-white man that appeared to the indigenous Indians in Central America was Satan just as he has appeared according to many in the ancient pagan mysteries proclaiming himself to be a god. The motif of Quetzalcoatl follows that of every other fertility, pagan sun-god that came before him. He is a Psychopomp like Osiris. He is lord of the Underworld as is Pluto. He is intoxicated like Bacchus and has illicit sex with a witch. Quetzacoatl’s heart is in the Sun like the Egyptian Thoth. He is the Sun god like Apollo. He has the broad forehead, and huge eyes indicative of every alien encounter ever reported. He is the patron god of gold and metal as is Hermes, and like Hermes and Mercury, he is the messenger of the gods. The word Angel is translated from the word Angellos which means “Messenger.” Now who was the messenger of God, other than he who once covered the throne of the Most High GodLucifer? Ezekiel 28. […] Lucifer name means “the light bearer” as does the title “Venus” the Sun of the Morning, the androgynous being who, as Hermes, was revered as the bearer of knowledge to mankind. What knowledge? “The knowledge of good and evil” or higher enlightenment is referred to here which the winged- serpent introduced to man in the Garden of Eden. The curse of God on the serpent was the lost of wings and feet, “Upon thy belly shall thy go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.”
Genesis 3:14, 15 http://haecceities.wordpress.com/2009/12/28/2012-quetzalcoatl-and-satan/
This is interesting: This introduction to the subject will have to be necessarily brief in scope, as there is simply far too much for any one person to convey or for that matter absorb, in any single sitting. The basis of the interest in the year 2012 is in the closing of a great cycle within the Mayan calendar system. The ancient Mayan people of Central America kept the most complex calendar system in the known world. In all they had some 20 different calendars running in unison. The best way to visualise this is as a number of interlocking cogs of various sizes grinding against each other; thus days each had a number of component parts. Of course we have an element of these process ourselves within our simpler Gregorian calendar, seven named days and up to 31 numbers each meshing with 12 named months as the years pass. http://2012rising.com/2012
20 calendars operating at once? I know people will ponder this type of thinking and think automatically, well that’s not very scientific. For me maybe aren’t the Mayans obviously plotting something? Sounds pretty scientific to me. And all of this logic based off of information from Gods or maybe aliens? A cyclical astro physical event that was important enough to basically base their entire lives on the intricacies of it’s movement? Many people have pondered that the significance of it all is in the dawning of a new age. For one thing the start of the 5200 year cycle the Mayans were plotting begins way before the start of their own civilization and was picked up from earlier more ancient ones. Is this maybe like a celestial event that is important somehow for space travel and the return of beings like Quetzacoatl. Is there somehow a bend in the fabric of space and time, a disturbance in the fabric of the universe itself that allows for or facilitates interstellar travel? New Guard Network (NGN) presents Jesse Randolph and author Len Kasten in a conversation about the development of artificial star-gates, a major population consciousness shift about to happen, the deal made by President Eisenhower with aliens trading technology for the right to conduct genetic experimentation on American citizens and Project Serpo the alleged top-secret voluntary exchange program between the United States government and the Eben, aliens from the planet Serpo which resides in the binary star system Zeta Reticuli. In this extraordinary interview Len Kasten describes information inscribed on ancient ‘cylinder seals’ held in the National Museum of Bagdad may have been the real and primary objective of both Gulf Wars. Allegedly, these cylinder seals contain ancient extraterrestrial star-gate technology information
given to the ancient Sumerians, who faithfully replicated the information in cuneiform text on the seals. http://plantosurvive2012.com/?tag=interstellar-travel
From plantosurvive2012.com, scary. “information inscribed on ancient ‘cylinder seals’ held in the National Museum of Bagdad may have been the real and primary objective of both Gulf Wars.” Here’s more: Allegedly, the US military intervention into Iraq was motivated by the desire to control the stargate technology which allows users to physically enter or move material through time and into different time streams. An offshoot of this star gate technology is Project Looking Glass, a window into different time lines. The stargate technology, enables one to travel in time or send material back and forth through time; the Looking Glass enables one to view probable future events or what is occurring in a different time stream within the multiverse …
33. Revenge of the Hippies! It’s obviously best to keep level headed about most things. Consider this: This is all very interesting, but what has this got to do with the end of the world? The Mayan Prophecy is wholly based on the assumption that something bad is going to happen when the Mayan Long Count calendar runs out. Experts are divided as to when the Long Count ends, but as the Maya used the numbers of 13 and 20 at the root of their numerical systems, the last day could occur on 13.0.0.0.0. When does this happen? Well, 13.0.0.0.0 represents 5126 years and the Long Count started on 0.0.0.0.0, which corresponds to the modern date of August 11th 3114 BC. Have you seen the problem yet? The Mayan Long Count ends 5126 years later on December 21st, 2012. Doomsday
Not sure if I agree with the statement, “The Mayan Prophecy is wholly based on the assumption that something bad is going to happen when the Mayan Long Count calendar runs out.” That didn’t seem to be the feeling I got from the other things I’ve read. Maybe I’m wrong? Hollywood hype? Internet? When something ends (even something as innocent as an ancient calendar), people seem to think up the most extreme possibilities for the end of civilization as we know it. A brief scan of the internet will pull up the most popular to some very weird ways that we will, with little logical thought, be wiped off the face of the planet. Archaeologists and mythologists on the other hand believe that the Mayans predicted an age of enlightenment when 13.0.0.0.0 comes around; there isn’t actually much evidence to suggest doomsday will strike. If anything, the Mayans predict a religious miracle, not anything sinister. http://www.universetoday.com/14094/no-doomsday-in-2012/
An age of enlightenment when Dec.21, 2012 hits? Sounds pretty awesome. Consider this next bit. Basically the Mayans based their calendar off of the number 20 instead of 10 like we would. Like take the date 0.0.0.0.0., which is 3113 BC., days would go to 0.0.0.0.19. then the first digit would reset the next day read 0.0.0.1.0. So how about this? But the fact remains, the Mayan Doomsday Prophecy is purely based on a calendar which we believe hasn’t been designed to calculate dates beyond 2012. Mayan archaeo-astronomers are even in debate as to whether the Long Count is designed
to be reset to 0.0.0.0.0 after 13.0.0.0.0, or whether the calendar simply continues to 20.0.0.0.0 (approximately 8000 AD) and then reset.
Why is it assumed the calendar ends at 13.0.0.0.0. instead of 20.0.0.0.0? Exactly. And I plan to find out. A little more on how awesome the Mayans were: At their peak, the Mayans had the only mature written language ever found in the Americas, spectacular and densely populated cities, and very sophisticated systems of mathematics, astronomy and calendars. They were marvelous astronomers, showing what could be done with the naked eye. Their measurements of the lunar month, the period of Venus and the year were more accurate than those of the Ancient Greeks. http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2008/04/15/2217547.htm?site=science/ greatmomentsinscience&topic=space
And just so you’re super duper clear! So 0.0.0.0.1 was one day, and 0.0.0.1.0 was 20 days. Then 0.0.1.0.0 was about one year, 0.1.0.0.0 was about 20 years and with 1.0.0.0.0, you've clocked up about 400 years. And on 21 December 2012, the Mayan Long Count calendar will read 13.0.0.0.0. By the way, the time between 0.0.0.0.0 and 13.0.0.0.0 is about 5126 years. Now some Mayan archaeo-astronomers reckon that the calendar should reset back to zero and start again. But others disagree and say it should continue to 20, and then reset again.
This next bit makes everything seem a lot more important again if you were starting to think maybe it wasn’t! Is there something significant we should know about the Winter Solstice date of December 21, 2012? Yes. On this day a rare astronomical and Mayan mythical event occurs. In astronomic terms, the Sun conjuncts the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic. The Milky Way, as most of us know, extends in a general northsouth direction in the night sky. The plane of the ecliptic is the track the Sun, Moon, planets and stars appear to travel in the sky, from east to west. It intersects the Milky Way at a 60 degree angle near the constellation Sagittarius. The cosmic cross formed by the intersecting Milky Way and plane of the ecliptic was called the Sacred Tree by the Maya. The trunk of the tree, the Axis Mundi, is the Milky Way, and the main branch intersecting the tree is the plane of the ecliptic. Mythically, at sunrise on December 21, 2012, the Sun - our Father - rises to conjoin the center of the Sacred Tree, the World Tree, the Tree of Life..
This rare astronomical event, foretold in the Mayan creation story of the Hero Twins, and calculated empircally by them, will happen for many of us in our lifetime. The Sun has not conjoined the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic since some 25,800 years ago, long before the Mayans arrived on the scene and long before their predecessors the Olmecs arrived. http://www.planetpapp.com/br21december2012/
OK. Now we’re talking bout something that hasn’t happened for 25,800 years instead of just 5,126 which is the length of the present Mayan calendar. The Great Cycle, lasting 1,872,000 days and equivalent to 5,125.36 years, is but one fifth of the Great Great Cycle, known scientifically as the Great Year or the Platonic Year - the length of the precession of the equinoxes. To use a metaphor from the modern industrial world, on Winter Solstice A.D. 2012 it is as if the Giant Odometer of Humanity on Earth hits 100,000 miles and all the cycles big and small turn over to begin anew. The present world age will end and a new world age will begin.
This does begin to sound a whole lot more important than it used to. Something that only happens every 5,000 odd years? Pretty important but probably not that important. 25,000 years though? Five 5,000 cycles all coming to a final conclusion later this year culminating in world destruction or enlightenment depending on whether you’re an optimist or the opposite? Over a year's time the Sun transits through the twelve houses of the zodiac. Many of us know this by what "Sun sign" is associated with our birthday. Upping the scale to the Platonic Year - the 26,000 year long cycle - we are shifting, astrologically, from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. The Mayan calendar does not really "end" in 2012, but rather, all the cycles turn over and start again, vibrating to a new era. It is as if humanity and the Earth will graduate in the eyes of the Father Sun and Grandmother Milky Way.
The ‘Age of Aquarius’? What is this revenge of the hippies? This essay is ended off with this: The ancient carved stones and the stars themselves tell us we are on the brink of a new world age. There is no reason not to take a leap of faith into imagining what may be in store. We may trust that it is time for humanity to awaken into a true partnership with each other, with the Earth, and the Cosmos. By accepting this partnership we may claim our birthright and become Galactic Citizens who care for and sustain the planet, thus sustaining ourselves. This is clearly the challenge of our times. Yet, arriving just in time and on schedule is the Winter Solstice dawn on the day we may remember that we are truly Children of the World.
Yes! Let us remember we are truly, Children of the World!
34. Welcome to the New Age Basically the idea of a ‘Great Year’ is entirely a scientific reality. This next bit is from wikipedia on ‘axial precession.’ Science will not argue these facts and the mystery I guess for me is how did the ancients figure this all out? In astronomy, axial precession is a gravity-induced, slow and continuous change in the orientation of an astronomical body's rotational axis. In particular, it refers to the gradual shift in the orientation of Earth's axis of rotation, which, like a wobbling top, traces out a pair of cones joined at their apices in a cycle of approximately 26,000 years (called a Great or Platonic Year in astrology). The term "precession" typically refers only to this largest secular motion; other changes in the alignment of Earth's axis — nutation and polar motion — are much smaller in magnitude. Earth's precession was historically called precession of the equinoxes because the equinoxes moved westward along the ecliptic relative to the fixed stars, opposite to the motion of the Sun along the ecliptic. This term is still used in non-technical discussions, that is, when detailed mathematics are absent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axial_precession_(astronomy)
And later from the same article for what it’s worth: For identical reasons, the apparent position of the Sun relative to the backdrop of the stars at some seasonally fixed time, say the vernal equinox, slowly regresses a full 360° through all twelve traditional constellations of the zodiac, at the rate of about 50.3 seconds of arc per year (approximately 360 degrees divided by 25,772), or 1 degree every 71.6 years.
Here’s some more for the article on ‘Astrological Age’: The Earth, in addition to its diurnal (daily) rotation upon its axis and annual rotation around the Sun, incurs a precessional motion involving a slow periodic shift of the axis itself: approximately one degree every 72 years. This motion, which is caused mostly by the Moon's gravity, gives rise to the precession of the equinoxes in which the Sun's position on the ecliptic at the time of the vernal equinox, measured against the background of fixed stars, gradually changes with time. In graphical terms, the Earth behaves like a spinning top, and tops tend to wobble as they spin. The spin of the Earth is its daily (diurnal) rotation. The spinning Earth slowly wobbles over a period slightly less than 26,000 years. From our perspective on Earth, the stars are ever so slightly `moving' from west to east at the rate of one degree
approximately every 72 years. One degree is about twice the diameter of the Sun or Moon as viewed from Earth. The easiest way to notice this slow movement of the stars is at any fixed time each year. The most common fixed time is at the vernal equinox around 21 March each year. In astrology, an astrological age has usually been defined by the constellation or superimposed sidereal zodiacin which the Sun actually appears at the vernal equinox. This is the method that Hipparchus appears to have applied around 127 BCE when he calculated precession. Since each sign of the zodiac is composed of 30 degrees, each astrological age might be thought to last about 72 (years) × 30 (degrees) = about 2160 years. This means the Sun crosses the equator at the vernal equinox moving backwards against the fixed stars from one year to the next at the rate of one degree in seventy-two years, one constellation (on average) in about 2160 years, and the whole twelve signs in about 25,920 years, sometimes called a Platonic Year. However the length of the ages are decreasing with time as the rate of precession is increasing. Therefore no two ages are of equal length. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrological_age
What exactly does this all have to do with the Mayans? I was just reading that the Mayans used 19 astrological signs instead of 12. This for example would be my astrological sign and reading based on their system: Sec: October 14th to November 2nd Meanings: Sky and Earth Mayan Astrology Signs Interpretation: Those born in the sign of Sec are very specifically associated with two elements: earth and sky (wind, air). You most likely have a fascination with the sky and are interested in all things from above. Air is the element of mental energies and earth is the element of practicality. Between these two you have the gift of examining any situation and discovering the most effective solution. This is a great gift and you can assist the world through your grounded perceptions. http://www.energy-healing-info.com/mayan-astrology-signs.html
I’ve never been into astrology before but it all sounds a little libra-ish to me. I think the thing about the Mayan for me is that I’m pretty confidant they knew alot more about the universe than we do. Modern astronomers may say that because of the overlap between two astrological ages, pisces and aquarius presently, it is totally open to interpretation as to when we will enter a new one. If pisces let’s say is symbolized by organized dogma and religion and aquarius is symbolized by technology and electricity then we can see the overlap happening now in modern civilization. If the ancient Mayan who could accomplish things that we still couldn’t today even with our modern machinery, most likely also had
contact with beings from foreign stars, and as well have an advanced scientific system of astronomy (all from the naked eye?) put in place to forecast important changes in the universe then I think that it all deserves alot of attention. The twelve Astrological Ages all last about 2,160 years. Each is marked by a radical change in the environment or cultures or both. A great cycle which includes all the twelve zodiac signs lasts about 25,625 years. I find it very interesting that a full Astrological Age cycle of twelve signs, lasts the same amount of time as the Mayan Grand Cycle of five ages. The Egyptians and the Mayans who recognized these cycles were on opposite sides of the world with no physical contact. Both types of Ages record the progress of precession. http://www.2012-spiritual-growth-prophecies.com/precession.html
It is also interesting that while apparently the Mayans consider this present cycle the last of their five ending the 26 000 year precession, in the zodiac as well pisces, our present age, is the 12th. or the last in that cycle. This is where is starts to get really interesting. With the basics of what we now understand we can further delve off into the depths on ancient knowledge: Most native Meso-American documents were destroyed in the early years of the Spanish occupation but a few priceless books and relics did survive the destruction, either having been hidden by the Indians or exported back to Europe as presents for the King. The most important of these was what is now called the Dresden Codex, named after the town in whose library it was lodged. This strange book, inscribed with unknown hieroglyphs, was written by Maya Indians who once ruled over much of Central America, the ruins of their once grand civilization littering the jungle. In 1880 a brilliant, German scholar, who was working as a librarian in Dresden, turned his attention to this codex. By a process of extraordinary detective work he cracked the code of the Mayan calendar making it possible for other scholars and explorers to translate the many dated inscriptions to be found on buildings, stelae and other ancient Mayan artefacts. He discovered that the Dresden Codex itself was concerned with astronomy providing detailed tables of lunar eclipses and other phenomenon. These were so accurate that they put our own calendar to shame. He also found evidence for a curious "magic number"- 1,366,560 days, which could be factorised in a number of ways and which harmonised the cycles of Venus and Mars with two "yearly" cycles also used by the Maya: the sacred tzolkin of 260 days and the Haab of 365 days. However, he also found that they had another system of counting the days relative to a starting date, called the Birth of Venus and now known to be 13 August 3114 BC. This calendar was divided into "months" or uinals of twenty days, "years" or tuns of 360 days and longer periods of 7200 days, the katun and 144,000 days, the baktun. The number 13 was magically important to them and they believed that, starting from the Birth of
Venus, after 13 of these longest periods, or baktuns, the world would come to an end. Working from their start date this Mayan Prophecy points to a date in our own time, 22 December 2012. http://www.knowledge.co.uk/xxx/cat/mayan/
This is where it starts to get scary: In 1986 Maurice Cotterell put forward a revolutionary theory concerning astrology and sun cycles. He had for some years suspected that the sun's variable magnetic field had consequences for life on earth. The sun has a complex field which loops and twists itself into knots. It has long been suspected that these loops give rise to sunspots, which are dark blemishes on the sun's skin. The number, size and location of sunspots are constantly changing and as a former Radio Officer, Cotterell was well aware that they have profound effects upon the earth's magnetic envelope, the magnetosphere. Whilst working as Head of Electrical and Communications Engineering (Estates) at Cranfield Institute of Technology, he devised a program that would compute the relationship between the sun's magnetic field and the Earth. As expected his model predicted that there should be a sunspot cycle of roughly eleven and a half years, closely corresponding to what has been observed over several centuries. However, he also found graphic evidence for longer cycles including a period of 1,366,040 days. His work took a new turn when he read about the Mayan super number from the Dresden Codex: 1,366,560 days. This was exactly two 260 day cycles larger than his theoretical sunspot period. He therefore proposed that the two were related. As his earlier work on what he called Astrogenetics indicated that human fertility was dependent on the presence of sunspots, he now had evidence that the Mayan calendar was not arbitrary but was based on a knowledge of the effects of sunspots. This explained the near obsession they had for long cycles of time and their belief in the rise and fall of four previous ages of man.
35. Party Like Its 3114 BC What does the end of the Mayan calendar mean to humanity? Have the Mayans plotted anomalies in the rotational patterns of the sun that bring forth world threatening sunspot activity every so often? Were the Mayan, not apparently just the Mayan because they probably inherited the calendar from the Olmec before them, only calculating the ending or beginning of a new astrological age? Personally I think that the calendar must have a much larger significance than simply plotting the movement of astrological ages. First of all astrological ages don’t end immediately, they fade in and out of each other gradually over a period of many centuries. With the intense astronomical knowledge that the Mayans possessed they would of been aware of this all and I don’t think they fooled themselves into thinking that the age of pisces (our age right now) will precisely end on this date. Furthermore it is questionable because the Mayans, and the civilizations that surrounded them, both before and after, placed absolutely no attention to the horoscope, to the twelve astrological houses like the ancients did on the other side of the planet. Unfortunately I think that the answer that stares us squarely in the face is that the Mayan calendar means something far more important then most would dare to imagine. What for instance is the significance of 3114 B.C? This is a starting date that precedes the Mayan civilization by thousands of years. Before the Mayan died out, as other great civilizations rose and faded, before and after the Mayan, 3114 BC is the one thing that seems to be passed on de facto. What is for example the one thing that the Aztec shared with the older Mayan culture? The language was different, art and customs were different, everything was, but somewhere hiding in jungles the keepers of the knowledge of the calendar survived waiting to pass the knowledge on to the next great civilization. Something significant happened in 3114 BC. The huge mistake that modern scholars make is to dismiss everything that streams down form antiquity as imagination. For the modern thinker everything before the advent of science is childlike and not to be taken seriously. Superstition reigns supreme. Primitive people were apparently fearful creatures assaulted by the forces of nature at all times and their myths and history can only be explained by considering this. They lived in a world full of imaginary spirits and deities who they tried to come to compromises with thinking that in doing so they could positively affect the elements in their
favour. What if this way of thinking isn’t, entirely, exactly, correct though? What if our dismissal of ancient knowledge only really shows how ignorant we are? Maybe it’s only the huge collective ego of modern humanity? Our huge collective ego that feels assaulted because when we really look back at the past we see that a bunch of stone age agrarians could accomplish things that we could never. Like any egotistic being we must at all times remain convinced that we are heading down the right road, that we have conquered the past, exceeded it, evolved beyond it, that we are in all ways superior. Why was the date 3114 BC so important to the ancient people of Mesoamerica? The significance of it all passed through dozens of unrelated cultures and empires. There was something they needed people to know about the future. Something happened on 3114 BC and because it had happened before and because it was astronomical in nature it could be calculated and it was fated to happen again. The ancients wanted us, humanity, to be ready. I think one thing we need to realize, and this is the hard part, is that if we are to take a really straightforward and honest look at the great cultures of antiquity then we are forced to admit that they were people who had had interstellar contact. Or thought they had. All around the world ancient people thought that beings came down from the stars in vehicles and through gene manipulation created their most ancient ancestors. Humanity. If we study the ancient Egyptians, Sumerians, Mayans, etc. we see that they just didn’t believe in beings from other worlds but they actually thought that they had day to day contact with these beings. Modern archaeologists would want you to think that these extremely advanced cultures, they did things with primitive tools that we could never do even with modern machinery, imagined all these things. That the ancients felt the need to carve things so perfectly in stone and create huge magnificent monuments that were perfectly aligned with astronomical events because they had vivid imaginations. Like children. If our own societies crashed how many thousands and thousands of years of working with primitive tools and staring at the sky without artificial aid would it take us to finally have the astronomical superiority held by most ancient cultures? Most of us wonder if we’d even survive.
One interesting theory about the significance of it all is that there is another planet in our solar system that has a huge elliptical orbit around the sun. Planet X or for the Sumerians, Nibiru. This planet is home to alien species according to the Sumerians and it’s movement has apparently been plotted by many ancient peoples the world over. The movement of Nibiru through our part of the solar system could potentially bring about catastrophic events. As well it would mean that we would have to accept the reality of having to have new relatives on the block that would be impossible for us to ignore. Think about it all as well. We can’t detect this planet because of it’s orbit, the planet is way out in outer space right now. The ancients knowing how deceptive it’s movement is, sought, successfully, to establish a warning system through the ages, as various civilizations rose and fell, because they, because of their time period, had intimate contact with the effects of it’s presence. Consider this as well. Modern scientists studying our solar system have concluded that there must be another significant planet out there as well because only that would cause some of the odd gravitational effects seen from time to time within the orbit and rotation of planets. Although Nibiru now passes every 2,148 years it only orbits close enough to cause a pole shift every other time. Unfortunately the numbers indicate last time it passed beyond Jupiter or Saturn resulting only in magnetic fluctuations and severe weather patterns. So this next pass should be between Mars and Jupiter. That can't be good folks. And the fact that both Maya and Sumer cultures (and about ten others), claim that their Gods told them this exact same timeline? http://churchofcriticalthinking.org/planetx.html
So this is basically saying Nibiru will come twice through our neighbourhood within one cycle of the present Mayan long count but only once will orbit close enough to cause a pole shift? What exactly did happen in 3114 BC and is this right as others have maintained in saying that other ancient cultures were projecting the same dates throughout history? If that is true then that is truly something to think about.
36. Guess what? You Don’t Even Know What Astrological Sign You Are Until You Read This Chapter! This is somewhat interesting: Thirteen was also a significant number for the Maya as most Mesoamerican cosmologies divided the sky into 13 zones. The ending of the 13th baktun, "probably would have been bigger than the ending of any of the other baktuns," Jennings speculated. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012/01/05/f-2012-maya-calendar.html?cmp=rss
So whereas we divide the sky into 12 parts (the horoscope), they divide their’s into 13. So with the 13th. baktun that ends this year in 2012 a complete cycle is coming to a close signalling a time of rebirth. This is from wilkipedia: Due to the constellation boundaries being redefined in 1930 by the International Astronomical Union, the path of the ecliptic now officially passes through thirteen constellations: the twelve traditional 'zodiac constellations' plus Ophiuchus, the bottom part of which interjects between Scorpio and Sagittarius. Ophiuchus is an anciently recognised constellation, catalogued along with many others in Ptolemy's Almagest, but not historically referred to as a zodiac constellation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiac
If you’re wondering how the Mayans viewed the zodiac: It has been discovered that the Mayans developed constellations that are actually paralleled with modern constellations of today. Mayans had their own names for the thirteen zodiacs identified today. The Mayans saw different shapes in these constellations that related more closely to their own belief systems and animals that were relevant to their lives. Aries was seen as Quetzal, one of their most powerful gods; Libra was identified as a shark; Taurus was an owl; Gemini was a turtle; Sagittarius was a rattlesnake; Capricorn was a jaguar; cancer was a dog; Pisces was a bat; Virgo was a peccary. One zodiac constellation however, Scorpios, is identical to today’s interpretation and was seen as a scorpion. The Mayans have also been discovered to
have a great interest in the constellation we know as Orion. http://moonphases.info/mayan-constellations.html
Why did the Mayans take such an active interest in the night sky? And how did they make all the complex calculations over long periods of time that would be needed to understand what they did? Maybe these are easily answered questions that I knowing nothing virtually about astronomy am unable to clue into? The four surviving written documents that are preserved today are the Dresden, Madrid, Paris, and Grolier Codices. These documents included some impressive innovations: charts including the heliacal risings, settings in synodic cycles of Venus, and an eclipse warning table with observable lunar cycles. Astronomy was such a huge part of the Mayan culture that they actually built their buildings and locations of the buildings to correspond with some astronomical events. Some buildings were designated to watch the rising sun, while others were angled better to see a certain grouping of stars, and even more impressively somewhere constructed in correlation to the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. The Mayans may not have had the most accurate or substantial information regarding astronomy, but are rather praised today because of the innovation and interest in an outer world concept.
It all sounds pretty crazy to me. Maybe it’s because I’m involved in construction. Thinking of being told on our next project something like, “OK. The purpose of this building is to view the next coming comet 8 years from now.” We would need a computer to assist us. Seeing what the Mayans built with primitive tools is inspiring enough but to add in the geometry they implemented along with other celestial considerations? Crazy. Something that is bugging me now a little is the fact that well like it says below, “The constellations of the zodiac have only a loose association with the signs of the zodiac, and do not in general coincide with them.” I was never a huge believer in the zodiac before but now i think it totally has no value whatsoever: Ophiuchus is one of thirteen constellations that cross the ecliptic. It has therefore been called the '13th sign of the zodiac'. However, this confuses sign with constellation. The signs of the zodiac are a twelve-fold division of the ecliptic, so that each sign spans 30° of celestial longitude, approximately the distance the Sun travels in a month, and (in the
Western tradition) are aligned with the seasons so that the March equinox falls on the boundary between Aries and Pisces. Constellations, on the other hand, are unequal in size and are based on the positions of the stars. The constellations of the zodiac have only a loose association with the signs of the zodiac, and do not in general coincide with them. In Western astrology the constellation of Aquarius, for example, largely corresponds to the sign of Pisces. Similarly, the constellation of Ophiuchus occupies most of the sign of Sagittarius. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiuchus
So the zodiac has almost no association with the star constellations themselves? So what value can there possibly be in them then? Must we believe that the Gregorian calendar is some sort of mystical invention that determines our character and temperament? 12 zodiac signs, 12 months. What about the 13th. Ophiuchus? Orion? That constellation blocks out Scorpio most of the time? Additionally what is the value of the signs themselves when the values that we attach to them is simply our cultural interpretation of what those constellations look like. For example people consider someone being a ‘Scorpio’ someone born between October 23 and November 21. But. According to the International Astronomical Union the reign of Scorpio is only between November 21st. and November 28th. It lasts for 8.4 days. Do you understand the complexity of it all? Take my sign Libra? Now consider. From the time I was born, from my mother, from society, I was told that I was a Libra and shared the attributes associated with that sign. However. According to the IAU, Libra lasts from Oct. 31st to November 21st. A span of 21.1 days. Virgo which is what everyone who thought that they were Libras really are spans from Sep. 16th. to October 31st. for a total of 44.5 days. Follow this link and then scroll down the page to view the table where they illustrate the conflicting dates in it all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiacal_constellation#Zodiacal_constellations
Maybe people born in a certain time of the year share similar attributes and characteristics to others born near the same time? I won’t
argue that. However the premise of what I thought astrology was all about is based on what constellation reigns in the heavens at the time of your birth. If we're told that what constellation we're born under determines our lives in some small way at least and it's not even remotely accurate? I’m not someone saying that astrology itself is completely without merit. I do think that someone should rethink it all at least so we take into consideration what stars we were really born under. And the science of the thinking must go beyond the shape that one culture or another associated with a group of stars in order to remember them!
