Context of the Lesson
This is the third lesson for grade 1/4 from fr om reading program in enrichment classes, for grade 1 girls and it is all about The Lion and the Mouse Story.
Teaching Goal
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to describe the feelings and act out.
Learning Objectives:
Students will model how to read aloud with expression by teacher guiding (show me how the lion is ROARING! SLEEPING!)
Students will read the speech bubble in the story in different voice tone for the mouse and the lion.
Through reading the learners will recognize the sequence of events in story, and they will be able to learn the new vocabulary words (lion, mouse, roar, sleep, play) (Appendix 2).
Assumptions about prior learning
Students may know the animals Lion and Mouse, but they may not know how to read the words (playing, sleeping, .. etc).
Students may have a background about the feelings (sad, mad, and being friendly), and that will hel p in understanding the text comprehension and acting.
Anticipated problems and possible solutions
Students may want to predict what will happen next in the story, but I think they will struggle talking in English and give full sentence. They may give two or three words.
Some students feel shy from reading, I will help them in pronounce the words in speech bubble.
Personal focus for this lesson
I will focus in holding one page of story and describe it with students well.
