The Essential Software Guide for Freshmores

Here’s a guide on the essential tools/software you’ll need in Freshmore and where to get them. There are many software available in https://downloads.sutd.edu.sg but I will not list all of them
0) Email Configuration Refrain from setting up the account in Outlook for Windows as it may cause profile issues. PM me if you run into this problem - Setup your email as an Exchange account - Server: outlook.office365.com - Username: SUTD email. Password is just your MyPortal password
1) VPN - You have to BE IN SCHOOL for this. - Go to https://downloads.sutd.edu.sg and login using the username sutd1\100XXXX and your own password. - Navigate to Student Software -> General -> Junos Pulse - Download and install the application. Follow the on-screen instructions.
2) Windows 8.1 If you are a Mac user, you might want to have Windows installed on your computer to use software such as Solidworks/Office etc. - You'll need a USB drive that's about 16GB - Email IT helpdesk to request for a license key (
[email protected]) - Go to https://downloads.sutd.edu.sg and login using the username sutd1\100XXXX and your own password. - Navigate to Student Software -> General -> Windows
- Download the image file - Open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the on-screen instructions
3) Microsoft Office - Go to https://portal.office.com/Home - Log in using your SUTD email and password - Under "Install Office on more devices", click on Install. If you can't see this option, go to https://portal.office.com/start?sku=e82ae690-a2d5-4d76-8d307c6e01e6022e and follow the on-screen instructions - Download and install the applications. Follow the on-screen instructions. You should have 5 installs per account.
4) Adobe CS6 (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. included) - Create an Adobe ID using your SUTD email at https://accounts.adobe.com/ - Email IT helpdesk to request for a license key (
[email protected]) - Go to https://downloads.sutd.edu.sg and login using the username sutd1\100XXXX and your own password. - Navigate to Student Software -> General -> Adobe CS6 - Download and install the applications. Follow the on-screen instructions.
5) Solidworks and Creator K (for 3D modelling and printing) You have to BE IN SCHOOL or use VPN to be able to use Solidworks. - Go to https://downloads.sutd.edu.sg and login using the username sutd1\100XXXX and your own password. - Navigate to Student Software -> General -> Solidworks - Download and install the applications. Follow the on-screen instructions. - Download Creator K at http://en.3disonprinter.com/support-down.php - Change the language of Creator K to English after installation.
6) AutoCAD/Maya (Free 3-years licence)
- Create an account using your SUTD email at http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all - Download and install the applications you want. Follow the on-screen instructions.
