Hardware change: • WMPT and WBBP are needed to be added to meet the typical 2G/3G application. •
CPRI cables are necessary to connect between GTMU and WBBP.
Iub and Abis Transmission : Interface Iub can share the Abis transmission resource. When the primary Abis transmission resource is not enough, additional transmission resource can be added either on GTMU or WMPT.
GSM Only Evolve to GU Dual Mode Software change and configuration: •
The data of NodeB and relative logical target in RNC should be configured.
•
RRU’s work mode should be GSM&UMTS in NodeB.
•
The switch of SFP interface on GTMU should be configured consistent with hardware connection.
•
The work mode of RRU should be changed into GSM&UMTS in BSC maintenance terminal.
•
The UMTS software include WMPT,WBBP,RRU3908 should be downloaded and activated via NodeB maintenance terminal.
Influence: •
In the whole procedure, GTMU will not restart.
•
RRU3908 will restart automatically when the UMTS software of RRU has been activated. At this time, the GSM cell on the same RRU will be influenced until the RRU runs normally.

Networking Application Between the BBU3900 and RRU3908/MRFU
The networking modes between the BBU3900 and RRU3908/MRFU include the convergence connection on the CPRI panel and two-star connection. The MRFU supports only the two-star connection. For a new site, the two-star connection is first selected for the RRU3908. For the expansion and upgrade, the convergence connection on the CPRI panel can be selected as required.

Hardware change: •
GTMU board must be removed while the whole site work in UMTS only mode. (This procedure will lead to all the service suspend of the site )
•
CPRI cables from GTMU to RRU and from WBBP to GTMU are not necessary without GTMU board.
•
CPRI cables are necessary to connect between RRU3908 and WBBP.
•
Transmission of interface Iub should be connected to WMPT .
UO
GU Dual Mode Evolve to UMTS Only Software change and configuration: •
The configuration of 2G BTS should be deleted.
•
The work mode of RRU should be changed into UMTS only in UMTS system.
•
The software version of BBU and RRU need not to be changed.
Influence: • • •
It will impact whole site 3G traffic In the whole procedure, WMPT and WBBP will not restart. RRU3908 will restart automatically when the CPRI cables is moved and GSM/UMTS cells service will be suspended until the RRU runs normally.

IP sharing transmission
As shown in Figure 4-9, the dual-mode BTS can use the FE port (electrical port or optical port) or E1/T1 port. The 3G main control board provides routing functions for 2G traffic, and 2G traffic can be sent to the 3G transmission board through the interconnection between FE ports. In this way, the protocol termination and data distribution can be implemented. In addition, the 3G IP protocol stack should provide related router functions such as DHCP relay and ARP proxy for 2G traffic. Currently, the 3G version already supports the functions.
