Following are the steps to import Google earth image into MX: 1. In Google earth, define the position of the road, by placing a placemark. For this: a. Go to Google earth. Locate the position. b. Click on the "Add Placemark" tab. Place the placemark at the desired location. In the "Google Earth-New Placemark" dialog, give name to the placemark, then click ok. c. Then right click on the placemark, select "Save As", the "Save File" dialog is displayed. Click "Save". 3. Now in MX, in CAD menu select, "Tools > Geographic > Define Placemark Monument", the "Define Placemark Monument" dialog is displayed. 4. Browse for the place marker that is saved. Click "Done". Place the placemark at the required location (say, start of the road). The placemark would contain the longitude, latitude, and the altitude values corresponding to the placemark in the Google Earth. 5. Then select “Tools > Geographic > Synchronize Google Earth View”, and give a data point in the view. This would synchronize the google earth with MX. 6. Then select “Tools > Geographic > Capture Google Earth Image”, and select the view, by giving a data point. Change the view display to “Smooth”. The google earth image would get imported to MX. In order to create a triangulation model from the captured google earth image, following are the steps:
1. After the google earth image is captured, there is a mesh generated. Now, at the bottom, there is an option ‘Export mesh to tria’, click on it.
2. Then select the mesh. Give another data point to accept the selection. 3. The “Triangulation from Mesh” dialog box is displayed. Select the ‘Model name’, etc. The mesh gets converted to triangulation model. Then using the “Surface Analysis” one can generate the contours. Hope this helps. Please let me know. Look for 'Capture Google Earth Image' in the Help file (select Help from the CAD menu, not the MX menu). Note that the captured mesh is not of a very high quality so should not be used for detailed design. i captured 4 mesh from google earth into my MXroad. i already converted the mesh to triangulation using command : mx export mesh to tria and generated 4 different triangulation. my question is. how do i combined the 4 triangulations into one? There are two things you can do. 1. Drop (using CAD 'Drop' command) all four meshes to lines, and use the CAD import to create strings from all the lines in a model, which you can then triangulate.
2. As you have the 4 TRIA models in MX already, create contours from each, putting the contours into the same model each time - and then triangulate the contour model to give you the full area triangulation.
MX Alignment to Google Earth The steps required are explained in the CAD Help "Working with complete designs > GeoCoordination > Geo-Coordination and Geographic Systems Support > Using Google Earth Tools" - I have copied the relevant text below, the bold text I have added. In MX, use File > CAD Menu... to replace the MX menu with the CAD menu, so you can access the tools mentioned below. Typically, the steps required to display your design model in Google Earth are as follows: 1. In Google Earth, create a placemark at the required location and save it as a "kml" file, by right-clicking on the created placemark and choosing "Save As". [To test this, I created a placemark to represent the start of my alignment.] 2. In your design model [i.e. the MX model], use the [from the CAD menu, Tools > Geographic > ] Define Placemark Monument tool to define a monument point that matches the location of the placemark. [The start of the alignment in my example.] 3. In your design model, use the Export Google Earth (KML) File tool to export your model to a Google Earth "kml" or "kmz" file (a compressed "kml" file). In Google Earth, use File > Open to load the newly created KMZ file from step 4. I contacted Horsham about this one some time ago. Although I had successfully exported my model to Google Earth, when I zoomed close in and panned the model appeared to glide over the Earth. Try it and see. I found that by first "flattening" the MX model to 0.000 vastly reduced this anal mole.
Following are the steps to export the MX alignment to Google Earth:
1. In Google earth click on the option “Add Placemark” (or in menu go to Add > Placemark). The “Placemark” will appear, drag it place it at the right location. In the “Google Earth – New Placemark”, give a name and hit “OK”. 2. Then right click on the placemark in Google earth and select “Save Place as”. Note the directory, and hit Save. 3. Now, in CAD menu, go to "Tools > Geographic" and select “Define Google earth place mark monument”, the “Define Placemark Monument” dialog box is displayed. In the “Source” category select “Google Earth Placemark Monument”, then click on the magnifying glass symbol, the “Select Placemark files” dialog box is displayed, select the .kmz file that was saved from Google earth. Hit done. Place the placemark at right location in MX. Similarly, few other placemarkers can be placed, at key locations. 4. Now, click on the “Synchronize Google Earth View” option in the “Geographic” tool box (Tools > Geographic > Open As toolbox). The Google earth view gets synchronized with the MX view. 5. Then click the “Export Google Earth (kml) file”, in the “Geographic” tool box. The “Create Google Earth (kml) file” dialog box is displayed. Click “Save”.
