DESCRIPTION A.
The selection of factory-coated welded steel tank construction for this facility is based upon the design drawings and this specification. Deviations from the specified design are not permitted.

Supply and install steel tanks at the location shown on the drawings and as specified herein.

Qualifications of Tank manufacturer 1.
The Tank manufacturer shall be a specialist in the design, fabrication, and erection of factory-coated welded steel tanks. The manufacturer shall be quality certified, have an active American Petroleum Institute (API-QI) and an International Organization for Standardization (ISO 9001) registration.
D.
Processing pipe, instrumentation, and controls is included as part of the steel tank installation. The tank contractor is responsible for installation of these systems in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.

MATERIALS A.
Tank Structure The materials, design, fabrication, and erection of the welded steel tank shall conform to the standards of industry from the American Petroleum Institute, which are derived from Engineering principles, industry experiences, and standards and specifications.

Steel a.
Sheet. Steel sheets shall conform to or shall be at least equal to hot-rolled quality per ASTM A36M/A36 with a minimum yield strength of 36,000 psi.
b.
Plate. Steel plates shall conform to or at least be equal to the requirements of ASTM A36M/A 36, with minimum yield strength of 36,000 psi.
c.
Rolled Structural Shapes. Rolled structural shapes shall conform to ASTM A36.

Bolts a.
Bolts shall conform to or at least be equal to the latest revision of ASTM A307 or A 193M/A 193.

Welding Electrodes a.
Manual arc-welding electrodes, for welding materials with a minimum tensile strength less than 550 MPa (80 ksi), shall conform to the E60 and E70 classification series in AWS A5.1 and shall conform to the E8015-B8 classification series in AWS A5.5.
b.
Welding materials with a minimum tensile strength of 550 through 585 MPa (80 through 85 ksi), the manual arc-welding electrodes shall conform to the E8015-B8 classification series in AWS A5.5.
c.
Inspections of joints shall be either radiographic or ultrasonic methods as described in API 650, Section 6 – Methods of Inspecting Joints.

Coating a.

Surface Preparation 1.
Thoroughly wash and rinse tank parts to remove grease, oil, and foreign matter.

Immediately oven-dry tank parts.

Grit-blast tank parts to SSPC-SP10-63T (near white blast cleaning) to 1-2 mil profile.

Coat all parts 15 minutes after blasting, and perform no further processing other than coating application.

Preparation for Transport 1.
Material shall be marked or tagged with part number and order number for field assembly requirements.
2.
Tank material shall be placed in racks or on pallets to facilitate transportation to job site. The racks shall also prevent scratching by erection crews.
3.
Supply Touch-up paint with instructions for application by erection personnel.
Appurtenances 1.
Furnish and install the appurtenances as shown on the contract drawings and as specified below.
2.
Unless otherwise noted, standard appurtenances shall be as follows per API 650, latest addition: a.
Hatch. The tank roof hatch shall have a curbed, upward opening 24" square. Extend the curb at least four inches above the tank. The hatch cover lip shall be hinged and provisions made for locking. Extend the hatch cover lip for a distance of two inches down on the outside of the curb.
b.
Inlet and Outlet Connections. Insure that the Inlet, outlet, and overflow sizes and locations conform to those specified on the drawings.
c.
Vent. Furnish a mushroom-screened vent above maximum water level of sufficient size to accommodate normal inlet and outlet flow. The overflow pipe shall not be considered to be a tank vent. Design and construct the vent to prevent the entrance of birds or animals.
d.
Outside Tank Ladder. Furnish an outside OSHA ladder at the location designated.
e.
Interior Tank Ladder. Furnish an interior OSHA ladder at the location designated.
f.
Install handrail and toeboard around the deck perimeter as specified on the drawings.

Liquid Level Indicator. Install a liquid level indicator with stainless steel float and target board as detailed on the drawings and as specified by the tank manufacturer.

Internal Nozzle with Overflow Weir Cone. The internal nozzle with overflow weir shall conform to the size and location specified on the drawings.
i.
Flush Cleanout Door. The flush cleanout door (shell manway) shall conform to the sizes and location specified on the drawings.
j.
Processing pipe, instrumentation, and controls is included as part of the steel tank installation. The tank contractor is responsible for installation of these systems in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Tank Foundation 1.
The tank foundation is specified elsewhere.
2.
Steel Bottom Tanks. The foundation shall be installed per API 650.
3.
The foundations shall be level with differential not exceeding +/- 1/8 inch in any 30-foot circumference under the shell. The grade on the circumference shall not vary more than +/- ¼ inch from an established plane.
4.
Concrete used for foundations shall be 4000 psi compressive strength (Type I Portland Cement).
5.
Soil reports are required for foundation designs.

Testing 1.

Field erect factory-coated steel tanks in strict accordance with the tank manufacturer's recommendations. Exercise particular care in handling of the tank plates, supports, and members to avoid abrasion or scratching of the coating. Perform touch-up coating in accordance with tank manufacturer's recommendations where and as directed.
Following completion of erection and cleaning of the tank, test the tank for liquid-tightness by filling the tank to its overflow elevation. Any leaks disclosed by this tank test shall be corrected in accordance with the tank manufacturer's recommendations. Furnish water required for testing at the time of erection. Tanks shall be periodically inspected, tested, and maintained.
WARRANTY 5.1
Warranty 1.
The tank manufacture shall warrant the tank system against any defects in workmanship and materials for a period of one (1) year from the date of final acceptance. In the event any defect should appear, it shall be reported in writing to the manufacturer during warranty period. END OF SECTION
