The manganese content shall be up to 0.60% for rimmed steels. The silicon content shall be less than or equal to 0.07% for rimmed steels, less than or equal to 0.17% for semi-killed steels, and greater than or equal to 0.12% for fully killed steels. The following residual element maximums are allowed: N 0.008% (for basic oxygen furnace steels), Cu 0.30%, Ni 0.30% and Cr 0.30%. If the manufacturer can guarantee that residual element content meets the specifications, analysis for these elements may be avoided. For steels made from iron smelted from arsenic-containing minerals, the arsenic content shall be decided by agreement between the purchaser and the supplier. If there is no arsenic in the source materials, the arsenic analysis may be avoided. If the steel meets the given mechanical property requirements, the listed minimums for carbon and manganese contents are not required for product delivery, but their contents shall be reported in the quality certificate. Chemical composition requirements may be applied to steel billets, including continuously cast feed/bloom, cast feed and the products made from them.
