VisionMaster FT Series of Naval Radars
VisionMaster FT Marine Navigation Radars
military capabilities without the high cost associated with most Naval Radars.
VisionMaster FT Marine Navigation Radars The VisionMaster FT series of radars has been developed using the latest technology, while building on the success of the BridgeMaster E series. Its unparalleled choice of configurations and options gives it the flexibility needed for any type, size and class of vessel. Its versatility extends to high-speed and static site applications. Since its introduction, VisionMaster FT has seen great success. It has been chosen as the preferred system of choice by major navies and coast guards around the world.
Specially Developed for the Military and Paramilitary Markets Recognizing the needs of military and paramilitary customers, the VisionMaster FT series of Naval Radars has been specially developed to provide advanced navigational support for the toughest military assignments. By combining the navigational features and functions found in the VisionMaster FT standard ARPA with enhanced features and high performance configuration, VisionMaster FT Naval Radars offer exceptional
military capabilities without the high cost associated with most Naval Radars.
Main Features Range in Yards
In addition to the standard radar distance units, the VisionMaster FT Navalized Radar display also offers the operator the choice of displaying ranges in yards. This is selected during commissioning.
Red First Strike
Red First Strike
Red First Strike provides an immediate indication of fast moving targets, such as fixed and rotary wing aircraft and fast attack craft, by highlighting them in red. This feature improves the operator’s reaction time by simplifying the identification of any potential threat.
displayed in the video circle to indicate where the interception will take place.
Target Intercept
Helicopter Approach
The Target Intercept feature allows the operator to plan and execute intercept maneuvers between one vessel and another. These interceptions can be to and from ownship, or from one tracked target or AIS target to another. The course to achieve the interception is calculated and displayed on the screen. Graphical intercept vectors are
The ability to display a helicopter approach sector on screen is of great value in assisting with helicopter operations, especially in poor visibility. At a glance, the radar operator is able to check the status of the helicopter’s approach and provide guidance to the pilot.
Target Intercept
The approach sector may be set up on ownship or on any tracked target or AIS target. Freeze Frame

Station Keeping
In bad weather conditions and
In any naval operation there may be times when it is necessary to impose radar silence. During these times the operator can be provided with a frozen picture of the radar situation immediately before the radar silence was imposed by using the ‘Freeze Frame’ function. The operator can freeze the picture locally or the display can be integrated with the vessel’s radar silence capability.
Station Keeping
In bad weather conditions and at night, it is often difficult to maintain station on other surrounding vessels. By using the station keeping feature, the operator is able to set up a sector for each vessel nearby which will allow him to see at a glance if any vessel has moved out of its correct position. Targets can also be assigned for automatic monitoring with respect to the defined station. The distance off station is displayed and an alarm will be raised if the target exits the station. Multiple targets can be monitored simultaneously.
Low Scanner Rotation Speeds
Naval Transceiver
The VisionMaster FT Navalized Radar display has been developed to support integration with scanner systems operating at low rotating speed rates, down to 5rpm.
Using enhancements in technology, the VisionMaster FT X-(I)-band naval transceiver has been developed to act as a centralized distribution unit for radar synchronization. It accepts an external trigger input (200Hz-10KHz) that will allow its transmission to be synchronized with other systems and three independent adjustable pretrigger signals outputs, which may be used by ownship’s EW systems to avoid damage when a radar pulse is being transmitted.
Advanced Index Lines
Advanced index lines are used by the military for blind pilotage operations. Sperry Marine’s Navalized display allows up to 15 index lines to be displayed simultaneously in groups of five. In order to minimize the cluttering effect of these lines, the operator is able to ‘clip’ the lines to the exact length required. Multiple sets of lines can be prepared in advance and saved internally in individual files for later use. Index lines are automatically synchronized between other VisionMaster FT systems on the same network, ensuring that all systems have the most up-to-date data available. Lines can also be saved to a USB memory device as a back-up or for transfer to other vessels.
Target Repair
Target repair allows the operator to reposition the tracked target synthetics when they become separated from the target video. This is done by moving the tracked target origin to its new position while maintaining the following target data: •
Target ID number
•
Target Name
•
Existing past position dots
•
Velocity
Drop Line
The Drop Line can be used to manage targets of interest and reduce screen clutter and unwanted target alarms. The line is drawn perpendicular to the ship’s course at an operator adjustable distance astern of ownship. Tracked targets crossing the line and moving away from ownship are automatically dropped unless being used for echo reference.

Full Situational Awareness We understand how difcult for offshore platforms or mega vessels it can be sometimes with blind arcs. With no radar information from the blind sectors, the lack of critical information contributes to poor situational awareness and vulnerability.
We designed the VMFT Dual Channel Radar to provide enhanced target detection and full situational awareness. The overlapping of the information from two radars eliminates blind arcs and delivers a 360-degree view on a single screen. With smooth transition between screens, continuous tracking is provided, with no interruption or delay of critical information.
Reduce Operator Workload Attempting to monitor and interpret data on two separate screens can be difcult and stressful, leading to possible confusion, uncertainty and potential danger. The VisionMaster FT Dual Channel Radar gives the condence and security that operators need, by providing the safety, reassurance and ease of use of a single integrated image of two radar views. Using a single screen is more efcient and less stressful, as it is easier to see everything at a glance without crossreference to each separate screen. The Dual Channel Radar enables the operator to have independent gain, rain and sea clutter control, as well as independent tuning and transceiver control.
Wide Range of Uses Many different users have found our VMFT Dual Channel Radar an invaluable aid wherever radar visibility is restricted. As well as enhancing operational safety, it can also provide protection from piracy or other threats. Originally designed for use on mega ships and offshore platforms the VMFT Dual Channel Radar is currently employed in many different applications, including static sites that require the additional security it provides.
Any Combination of X- and S-band Antennas The VMFT Dual Channel Radar allows data from two independent asynchronous sensors to be displayed and controlled on a single screen. Data from the separate transceivers is fed to a single screen via interswitch and PC I/O units, allowing the control of the two display channels. The VMFT Dual Channel Radar is available in any combination of X- and S-band congurations or with third party applications The 340 Deckstand features a 25.5” screen, while the Kit format is available with both 19” and 25.5” screens.

NAVIGUIDE 4000
Versatile Manual Steering Control System
NAVIGUIDE 4000
Start your journey with a flexible integration of steering systems A versatile manual steering control system offering full control and multiple system configuration.
Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine has over 100 years’ experience designing and manufacturing equipment that mariners can depend on for marine navigation and communication.
The NAVIGUIDE 4000 is the rst manual steering system based on controller area network (CAN) technology. Our manual steering control system provides a wide range of important benets, including: •
High flexibility
•
Increased safety
•
Easy installation
•
Supported steering modes
•
Wide range of components
•
Type approval
•
Total support 24/7
High Flexibility The NAVIGUIDE 4000 is a manual steering control system that can control a vast number of different steering gear types, from different makers and requiring different steering gear interfaces, such as solenoid valves (AC or DC bang-bang valves, proportional valves), torque motor control, voltage or current analogue signal. Suitable for single or dual rudder vessels, the NAVIGUIDE 4000 offers system congurations that can match all customer’s requirements as well as meeting the requirements of all classication societies. The system is available in a range of steering modes, according to your needs, with any combination of non-follow-up, single or dual follow-up and autopilot options available. Congurable control transfer (take-over or callup) means that you can also enjoy multiple steering positions.
It’s also easy to add extensions or modications to your system, as your needs may change.
Increased Safety Above all, the NAVIGUIDE 4000 provides you with enhanced safety, by presenting all the information you need, and doing so simply and clearly. All NAVIGUIDE 4000 systems feature displays indicating rudder order and rudder angle, so providing clear indications of actual steering mode and active steering position. The control transfer between different control stations can be congured to ‘call-up’, meaning that the control has to be released from the active station before changing it to another control station, so preventing unwilling transfer of steering control.
Easy Installation We are acutely conscious of the need to save you time and money, so beyond functional excellence, we have designed the NAVIGUIDE 4000 to be easy to set up, and to require as little installation time as possible, which saves on labour costs and reduces the chance of errors. The use of the NAVINET 4000 control area network reduces the amount of separate wire connections, while maintaining the versatility in functionality. The setting up of the system is menu controlled, giving you full access to all desired functions.
Heading control (autopilot): You can also connect an optional heading control system to the NAVIGUIDE 4000 manual steering control system, increasing the operator’s comfort by keeping your vessel on a pre-selected heading. The NAVIPILOT 4000 embodies all features of the NAVINET 4000 control area network and can be connected to the manual steering control system very easily. Additional steering modes:
We have also provided standard interfaces to external systems, such as dynamic positioning (DP) or joystick systems.
External systems, such as dynamic positioning (DP), or joystick systems can be connected to the NAVIGUIDE 4000 manual steering control system, providing full rudder control to these systems. If required, handshaking systems for safe control transfer can be provided.
Supported Steering Modes
Wide Range of Components
The NAVIGUIDE 4000 supports a range of different steering modes:
The autopilot from Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine, NAVIPILOT 4000, uses the same control area network and can easily be integrated into the NAVIGUIDE 4000 steering control system, adding full heading control features to the system.
Non-follow-up: The non-follow-up (NFU) steering mode provides steering control by means of NFU tillers that act directly on the steering gear, providing a very safe and economic means of controlling your vessel. Once a NFU tiller is actuated, the rudder starts moving until the NFU tiller is released or the maximum rudder angle is reached. Follow-up: Follow-up steering mode includes a follow-up handwheel or follow-up miniwheels. The operator selects the desired rudder angle using the scale of the follow-up handwheel or the display of the follow-up miniwheels, while the system controls the rudder to that position and keeps it there.
FOLLOW-UP HAND WHEEL
24/7 Service As with all Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine systems and products, all your NAVIGUIDE 4000 components will be supported by one of the world’s most extensive worldwide service networks, with help available around the clock, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our global service network provides prompt shipboard maintenance and repair services in every major seaport in the world. We also offer comprehensive maintenance contracts, as well as support for all products for at least ten years after any is discontinued, so providing continuing peace of mind to all our customers.
Type-Approved Performance Sperry Marine’s NAVIGUIDE 4000 components are all IMO compliant, meeting the certication requirements of all major international organisations, standards and notations.
Each NAVIGUIDE 4000 steering control system providing follow-up or other loop controlled steering modes comes with a steering failure alarm sensor (one per rudder), fullling the requirements of the International Association of Classication Societies (IACS) SC.94 for loop monitoring.
