THE EARTH’S ROTATION o

It is when the Earth rotates on its axis (Cuando la ti erra erra gira s obre obre su eje)

One rotation takes 24 hours or 1 day (Una rotación dura 24 horas o un día )

o

The rotation causes day and night (La rotación causa el día día y la noche) noche)

THE EARTH’S REVOLUTION (La traslación de la Tierra) o

It is when the Earth orbits around the sun (Cuando la ti erra erra gira alrededor alrededor del sol)

o

One revolution takes 365 days and 6 hours or one year ( Dura 3 65 días días y 6 horas o un a ño)

o

The revolution causes the 4 seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. (Causal as 4 estaciones: estaciones: primavera, verano, otoño otoño e i nvierno)

THE MOON (La  ( La luna) o

The moon orbits the Earth in 28 days (La luna gira alrededor alrededor de la tierra en 28 días)

TIDES (Mareas) o

The rise and fall of the seas and oceans (La subida y bajada de los mares y océanos)

The Moon and the Sun attract wáter due to the forcé of gravity ( La Luna y el Sol atraen el agua debido a la fuerza de la gravedad)

We have 2 high tides and 2 low tides every day (tenemos dos mareas altas y dos mareas bajas cada día)

MEASURING AND REPRESENTING THE EARTH ( Medic ión y representación de la Tierra)

MAPS (mapas): Maps show the Earth as flat (representan la Tierra plana) Physical maps (mapas físicos). It shows deserts, mountains, rivers and lakes. (Representan desi ertos, montañas, ríos y lagos)

Maps (Mapas políticos): it shows countries and cities (muestran paises y

ciudades). 2.

ATLAS: It is a book that contains maps and information (es un libro que contiene mapas e información)

GLOBES (globos terráqueos): show the Earth as a sphere (muestran la tierra como una esfera)

IMAGINARY LINES ( Líneas imaginarias) 1.

PARALLELS (Paralelos): The horizontal line or lines of latitude (líneas horizontals o líneas de latitud). The Equator is at zero degrees latitude (El Ecuador está a cero grados de latitud).

It divides the Earth into the Northern and the Southern Hemisphere. (Divide la Tierra en Hemis ferio Norte y He misferio Sur).

2. MERIDIANS ( meridianos). The vertical line or lines of longitude (líneas verticals o líneas de longitud) . The Greenwich Meridian is at zero degrees longitude. HOW WE STUDY THE SOLAR SYSTEM ( Cómo estudiamos el Sistema Solar)

We use telescopes like Hubble Space Telescope (Usamos telesc opios como el Hubbl e).

The first dog in space was Laika in 1957 (El primer perro en el espacio fue Laika en 1957)

The first person in space was Yuri Gagarin in 1961 ( La primera persona en el espacio fue Yuri …)

Neil Armstrong completed a Moon landing in 1969 on the Apollo 11 mission. (Neil Armstrong complete un at errizaje en la Luna en 1969 en la misi ón Apolo 11)

Today we have lots of satellites to share information (hoy tenemos muchos sa tellites pa ra compartir información).
