(3) When When clean cleanin ing g the the engi engine ne compa compartm rtment ent,, be espeespecially careful to protect the electrical system from water. (b) Precau Precautio tions ns when when handl handling ing the oxyge oxygen n sens sensor or.. (1) Do not not allo allow w oxyg oxygen en sensor sensor to dro drop p or hit hit again against st an an object. (2) Do not allow allow the sensor sensor to come come into into cont contact act with with water. 5. IF VEH VEHIC ICLE LE IS EQUI EQUIPP PPED ED WITH WITH MOBI MOBILE LE RA RADI DIO O SYS SYS-TEM (HAM, CB, ETC.) If the vehicle is equipped with a mobile communication system, refer to the precaution in the IN section. 6. AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM (a) Separa Separatio tion n of the eng engine ine oil dipsti dipstick, ck, oil oil fille fillerr cap, cap, PCV hose, etc. may cause the engine to run out of tune. (b) Discon Disconnec nectio tion, n, loosen looseness ess or or cracks cracks in in the part parts s of the the air air induction system between the throttle body and cylinder head will allow air suction and cause cause the engine to run out of tune. 7. ELECTRONIC CO CONTROL SY SYSTEM (a) Before Before remov removing ing SFI wiri wiring ng con connec nector tors, s, termi terminal nals, s, etc., etc., first disconnect the power by either turning the ignition switch OFF or disconnecting the negative (–) terminal cable from the battery. HINT: Always check the diagnostic trouble code before disconnecting the negative (–) terminal cable from the battery.

Be carefu carefull during during trou trouble blesho shooti oting ng as ther there e are num numero erous us transistor circuit, and even slight terminal contact can cause further troubles. Do not not ope open n the the EC ECM Mc cov over er.. When When inspe inspecti cting ng duri during ng rain rainy y weath weather er,, take take care care to preprevent entry of water. Also, when washing the engine compartment, prevent water from getting on the SFI parts and wiring connectors. Parts Parts should should be replac replaced ed as an assemb assembly ly.. Care Ca re shoul should d be take taken n wh when en p pull ulling ing out out and insert inserting ing wirwiring connectors. 1. REMOVE V– V–BANK CO COVER (a) Using Using a 5 mm hexago hexagon n wren wrench, ch, remove remove the 2 cap cap nuts. nuts. (b) Disco Disconne nnect ct the the 2 clips clips,, and and remov remove e the V–bank V–bank cover cover.. 2. WARM UP ENGINE Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
