Activating Satellite lub

1 Activating Satellite lub Purpose

Follow the procedure to activate feature RAN164: Satellite lub. For more information on the feature, see RAN164: Satellite lub in WCDMA RAN, Rel. RU10, Feature Descriptions. Before you start

This procedure is applicable only to the RNC and does not provide instructions for the satellite system configuration. This procedure is relevant to both the ATM and IP -based Iub configurations. This feature belongs to application software and is under license key management. The license is an RNC-controlled long-term capacity license and it defines the number of WBTSs that have support for this feature. Make sure you have a valid license installed. Before a licensed feature can be activated, the license file must be transferred and installed in the RNC. You can install the license by using NetAct or a local MML interface. If you install the license using NetAct, the feature covered by the license is automatically set to the ON state. If you use the MML interface, you must also set the feature state (ON/OFF/CONFIG). In new installations, the default state is OFF. For more information, see Licence-based feature management, W7 - Licence and Feature Handling, and License Management Principles. Use the ZW7 command to activate the license for the feature with feature code 1303. Steps

Insert the license to the RNC license system.

Enable the license via MML a) Enable the license: ZW7M:FEA=1303:ON;

b) Check if the license has been enabled: ZW7I:FEA,FULL,FEA=1303;

Open RNC RNW Object Browser.

Lock all the WCELs under the relevant WBTS object.

For the relevant WBTS object, configure the following parameters: a) Enable the SatelliteIubUsage parameter. b) For uplink traffic, configure the MDC buffering time (the MDCBufferingTime parameter).

The MDCBufferingTime parameter is applicable only when the SatelliteIubUsage parameter is enabled. c) For downlink traffic, configure the startpoint and endpoint offset values of the WBTS receiving window. Configure the following parameters: •

These WBTS-specific parameters apply to both ATM and IP-based Iub configurations, if the SatelliteIubUsage parameter is enabled.

The values configured for the MDCBufferingTime , ToAWSOffsetNRTDCHIP , ToAWEOffsetNRTDCHIP , ToAWSOffsetRTDCHIP , and ToAWEOffsetRTDCHIP parameters should be chosen with respect to the jitter introduced by the satellite link. The ToAWSOffsetNRTDCHIP and ToAWSOffsetRTDCHIP should be set so that the combined ToAWS value (offset and the base value) are equal or larger than the actual downlink jitter.

Unlock all the WCELs under the modified WBTS object. Expected outcome

Verifying Satellite lub

2 Verifying Satellite lub Purpose

Follow the procedure to verify that the activation of feature RAN164: Satellite lub has been successful. After the activation, the cells become active without alarms. Steps

Make a call through the WBTS in question.

If the call is successful, the feature has been activated successfully. Expected outcome

Feature RAN164: Satellite lub has been activated successfully.

Deactivating Satellite lub


3 Deactivating Satellite lub Purpose

Follow the procedure to deactivate feature RAN164: Satellite lub. Summary

The feature can be deactivated only for each WBTS separately. Steps

Open RNC RNW Object Browser.

Lock all the WCELs under the relevant WBTS object.

For the relevant WBTS object, disable the SatelliteIubUsage parameter.

Re-configure the ToAWSOffsetNRTDCHIP, ToAWEOffsetNRTDCHIP , ToAWSOffsetRTDCHIP , and ToAWEOffsetRTDCHIP parameters.

When the SatelliteIubUsage parameter is disabled, these parameters are applicable to IP-based Iub only. Therefore, the parameters need to be re-configured with the values appropriate for a non-satellite IP-based Iub.

Unlock all the WCELs under the modified WBTS object. Expected outcome

Feature RAN164: Satellite lub has been deactivated.
