In addition, from early 2002,
INDO HERBS
realised that, a
previously known plant of Jatropha/Ratan Jyot, which was known for it’s medicinal and herbal properties, can also be used for making Bio-diesel from its seeds.
INDO
HERBS
started to promote its
cultivation to its clients.
INDO HERBS attended
cities,
states

many seminars, conferences in various
India,
and
visited
many
agricultural
universities/farms who were engaged in similar activities, to evaluate the importance of Bio-fuel, and came in contact with many Government officials and agencies, who guided
INDO
HERBS
profusely, and enlightened us with Government policies, initiatives and schemes for bio-fuel.
Then we came to know that many states have started to allot wastelands on long-term lease to interested parties to promote cultivation of Jatropha under Bio-Fuel Mission, initiated by President of India.
In January 2007 Government of Rajasthan, declared its policy of giving about 14.5 lakh Hectares of wastelands in various districts, to interested parties for cultivation of Jatropha.

In conjunction with few of it’s existing clients
INDO HERBS
applied for approximately 1000 Hectares of wasteland on long term lease in various locations of Rajasthan, lisioning with various State Government offices, agencies and departments.
At this juncture we have confidently succeeded in getting the wasteland allotment done in state of Rajasthan.
In 2008, we have successfully, entered into agreement with Department of Agriculture, in State of Jammu & Kashmir to promote Medicinal & Aromatic crops among farmers of region to augment their earnings, by supplying quality organic planting materials, technical know-how and assured buy-back arrangements.

PREFACE Since
time
immortal
people
have
been
using
herbs
in
their
surroundings for remedies to cure various ailments. Barks and fruits of trees, leaves, roots, flowers and other parts of major and minor plants are extensively used for manufacture of drugs. It is estimated that in India, out of 2000 drugs currently being used in curing human ailments, about 1500 drugs are of plant origin. Ayurvedic physician, local practitioner and pharmaceutical industry are using more than 250 species of medicinal plants commonly. There are about 2000 species of plants reported to be of medicinal importance in the Indian System of Medicine ( ISM ). However, large quantities of medicinal plants go as a waste because their value is little known to the public. Therefore, exhaustive survey of natural forests and other potential habitat of medicinal plants needs to be assessed for the status of natural regeneration and site productivity so as quantities of medicinal
plants,
which
could
be
extracted
without
disturbing
the
ecosystem, could be determined. Disputed identity of plants could be solved through forest plant herbaria. Herbarium is important not only for proper
identification but also for further research and investigation. Very little literature is Available on identification of medicinal plants; therefore, many drugs are sold only as one trade name or vice-versa.

The growing biotic pressure on natural forests are fast depleting the plant drug potential of the forests and very little could be done to protect them, therefore the efforts to be made for in-situ preservation of gene pool as well as ex-situ conservation. Top priority should be given to protection of the existing number and variety of medicinal plants in their natural habitat. Few decades ago it was thought that abundance of most of the medicinal plants in their natural habitat did not warrant intensive and extensive cultivation, but now it is being realised, to cultivate and plan large scale propagation due to growing biotic pressure on forests. Marketing of medicinal plants is a great problem with all growers. Although many medicinal plants are priced heavily, but when grower wants to sell in the market, he is highly disappointed. Unless the grower is convinced about the economic returns from growing any species it is unlikely to popularize any species. Since many herbs are still available in the natural forests for commercial exploitation, doubts are raised if the cultivated produce would have viable markets.

Of lately, due to erratic atmospheric conditions and monsoon patterns, it is also observed that the traditional crops that a farmer used to rely on, is not giving him proper economic returns to sustain him and his family, and as such he is willing to try some alternate crops. Medicinal crops, agro-forestry, horticulture, floriculture and bio- fertilizers are some of such projects, which attract him. Due to his lack of knowledge about planting material, cultivation and above all marketing of his crop still bother him. Therefore, an attempt has been made by INDO
HERBS .
To give a
helping hand, to growers, by providing them, with full technical guidance about these projects. By providing them with quality planting materials, soil testing of their farms; accordingly guide them on use and benefits of using bio fertilizers, cultivation, care of crop, harvesting and finally marketing their crop with a guaranteed buy-back scheme with pre-determined rates.
