Year: Fall, 2014 Place: Prishtina, Kosovo Collaboration: University of Prishtina Whilst looking into the incomes and outputs of an average Balkan family, this project tries to provide high quality and spacious dwellings into a pay range what might be considered affordable to this type of family. This was achieved by tackling the problem in different ways. First the building was made as compact as possible, lowering the cost of construction as well as the cost of maintaining it. Secondly, by analyzing the lifespan of a family, the project gives all the flexibility the family needs in order to expand and/or divide the unit into multiple apartments. This gives the building a long-lasting life and a sense of community. The final project meant that the families now could own the same sized housing unit with

The Germia Sports Hall, is not just to be used for sports games, it also has a garage annexed which is set to clear the whole park from unnecessary car traffic. Between the hall, skatepark,

Year: October, 2013 Place: Prishtina, Kosovo Collaboration: University of Prishtina Office buildings are often oriented towards dull, cubicle-driven companies. This often leads to a dreary working experience for the employees, but also to an imposed structure for the pedestrians and residents of the area. This project was supposed to be an office incubator for a generic company, whilst destroying a bazaar that currently occupies the site. Instead of destroying the century old bazaar, the project provides new facilities and stands for the current owners, at the same time adding a whole floor underground for the same function. The upper floors are then available for a different company, making sure that the bazaar continues to function just as the residents have gotten used to. The building also has a watchtower attached, that doubles as a landmark for the city. The watchtower is a homage to the century-old tower on the other side of

Year: March, 2013 Place: Gjilan, Kosovo Eliza Hoxha, Zana Sokoli, Genc Demiraj Collaboration: The project was designed for a competition organized by the municipality. It combines three types of schools, that of applied arts, dancing and music school. All of the different departments are separated while at the same time connected via common areas. Year: August, 2013 Place: Vushtrri, Kosovo Collaboration: None The container home was designed for a British based company ‘CoreGroup’ that wanted to recycle a shipping container. The project is set to have a living area that is directly connected to the patio in the front, with the kitchen set in the corner. The container can accommodate up to four people therefore it has only two bedrooms. The bathroom is connected to the boiler and the water installations that can also be accessed from the outside. The whole container can be closed with the sliding doors, becoming so entirely closed and safe from burglars and

I have fallen in love with architecture very early on in life, but this love quickly turned into an obsession and passion after I began my studies. I seem to never get enough of architecture, often working through nights for weeks on end. Unfortunately, having been born and brought up in Kosovo, I have had the unfortunate fate of being isolated both physically and intellectually. This meant working twice as hard as my colleagues from Europe, just to be up to date with trends in architecture. This however only made me become even more passionate about this subject that is so dear to me. This initial passion would only be intensified by the activities and projects I undertook outside of the academic work. During the last two years, the absence of adequate learning material in the Albanian language regarding architecture has influenced me to take an initiative that I have been following along with my undergraduate studies. I have started to write a script for an architectural documentary cantered around the way different families in Kosovo live, and also a series of books titled “Housing”, “Graphic Architectural Dictionary” and Year: Place:

“Architectural Visualization”. The aim of this series of books is to provide first year undergraduates a more brain friendly way of engaging in the emancipating world of architecture. Fortunately, a significant number of professors have enthusiastically agreed to support my idea and are now regular mentors of my work. They ensure that the information provided is lucid and up to date. I’m convinced that with my professional experience and my personality, I will be appropriate to find the interest and a place within your University. I will be also looking forward to participate and give my time and contribution in other activities of London Metropolitan University, besides the regular ar courses that I intend to follow.
