INTRODUCCION En los principios de la refrigeración mecánica, los sistemas no eran tan sensibles a los materiales extraños como lo son ahora. Los sistemas modernos están diseñados para operar a temperaturas más altas, usando compresores que trabajan a mayor velocidad y que son construidos con espacios más reducidos. r educidos. Bajo estas condiciones, los contaminantes pueden causar problemas serios y sobre todo, reparaciones muy costosas. La refrigeración y la lubricación constituyen junto junto con el accionamiento acciona miento y la regulación, los principales sistemas que integran una maquina y que permiten su funcionamiento bajo unas determinadas condiciones de servicio. La puesta en marcha de los elementos mecánicos exige lubricar las superficies de contacto, al tiempo que mantener las temperaturas de trabajo dentro de unos márgenes admisibles. En el proyecto de diseño de una maquina, además del cálculo a fatiga de elementos element os como arboles, engranajes engrana jes o rodamientos, r odamientos, es, pues, necesario definir también los sistemas de refrigeración y lubricación, especificando el procedimiento a utilizar en cada caso, los componentes y el tipo de fluido refrigerante y/o lubricante. El mantenimiento efectivo efect ivo de cualquier sistema de refrigeración mecánica, depende grandemente de la comprensión que se tenga de las propiedades del refrigerante r efrigerante.. La dificultad para r esolver un problema, se torna más fácil, cuando se sabe cómo reacciona el refrigerante a los cambios de temperatura y de presión. El comportamiento del refrigerante frecuentemente es la clave para detectar el origen del problema. Un refrigerante es un producto químico que se emplea para producir refrigeración. Los principales usos son los refrigeradores y los acondicionadores de aire. Se puede definir al refrigerante como fluido utilizado en la transmisión del calor que, en un sistema frigorífico, absorbe calor a baja temperatura y presión, cediéndolo a temperatura y presi ón más elevadas. Este proceso tiene lugar, generalmente, con cambios de estado del fluido. Un refrigerante es cualquier sustancia capaz de absorber calor de otra, hielo, agua, aire, etc. Dado que la refrigeración mecánica se basa en la evaporación y la consiguiente condensación del fluido para absorber y disipar el calor. Para que un refrigerante sea apropiado y se le pueda usar en el cicl o antes mencionado, debe poseer ciertas propiedades físicas, químicas y termodinámicas que lo hagan seguro durante su uso. No existe un refrigerante ³ideal´ ni que pueda ser universalmente adaptable a todas las aplicaciones. Entonces, un refrigerante se apr oximará al ³ideal´, solo en tanto que sus propiedades satisfagan las condiciones condiciones y necesidades de la aplicación para la que va a ser utilizado.

REFRIGERANTES 1. DEFINICION.-
De manera general, un refrigerante es cualquier cuerpo o substancia que actúe como agente de enfriamiento, absorbiendo calor de otro cuerpo o substancia. Desde el punto punto de vista de la r efrigeración efrigeración mecánica mecá nica por evaporación de un líquido y la compresión de vapor, se puede definir al refrigerante como el medio para transportar calor desde donde lo absorbe por ebullición, a baja temperatura y presión, hasta donde donde lo rechaza al condensarse a alta temperatura y presión. Los refrigerantes son los fluidos vitales en cualquier sistema de refrigeración mecánica. Cualquier substancia que cambie de líquido a vapor y viceversa, puede funcionar como refrigerante, y dependiendo del rango de presiones y temperaturas a que haga estos cambios, va a tener una aplicación útil comercialmente. Existe un número muy grande de fluidos refrigerantes fácilmente licuables; sin embargo, sólo unos cuantos son utilizados en la actualidad. Algunos se utilizaron mucho en el pasado, pero se eliminaron al incursionar otros con ciertas ventajas y características que los hacen más apropiados. Recientemente, se decidió descontinuar algunos de esos refrigerantes antes del año 2000, tales como el R-11, R-12, R-113, R-115, etc., debido al deterioro que causan a la capa de ozono en la estratósfera. En su lugar, se van a utilizar otros refrigerantes como el R-123, el R-134a y algunas mezclas ternarias.
