Cube viewer replacement? Strengths: Easy to build and navigate with drag-and-drop Can convert to other Report Types Insert user row/columns Insert Calculations Dynamic members No Formula MDX • • • • • • •
•
Limitations Can only explore one cube at per sheet •
Exploration View •

An Exploration provides great flexibility by displaying data from a cube in a format that lets you move dimensions between rows, columns, and the context area easily by dragand-drop With Explorations, not only can you move the dimensions, but the members are dynamic meaning that the members on rows and columns can change as the model changes. The flexibility of Exploration view lets you look at your data from different perspectives so that you can gain better insight into what is happening with the business. While easy to build and navigate, Explorations are limited to one per worksheet and have limited formatting and calculation capabilities. By default, every time you make a change to t o your Exploration, the report is refreshed. If you want to make multiple changes to your layout quickly without waiting for the report to refresh after each change, click Design Mode. In this mode, you choose when to manually
Exploration View Use Case Use Explorations in the following situations: •
Exploring data to find quick answers from a cube
•
To build interactive report that you or others can drill up, drill down, or drill through
•
When you want to create a new TM1 View that you want to save for future use
•
When you are not concerned with formatting as much
•
To build a data set to convert into Quick, Custom, or Dynamic report for more complex analysis or formatting
Demo: Quick Report •
•
Lineage to CAFÉ’s Flex View Can be create using following methods: Drag-and-drop existing Cube View or Exploration Convert from Exploration Convert from View in source tree • • •
•
Easy to create and maintain and No formula Type-in Refresh • •
•
Can have multiple quick reports from different sources on same sheet
•
Each quick report on a sheet can have its own setting Good for building highly formatted reports
Quick Report Use Case Use Quick Reports in the following situations: •
Building complex, highly-formatted reports
•
Reports using multiple cubes or servers
•
Where report row and column definitions will not change
•
You want to publish the report as a live web-sheet connected to a TM1 server
Demo: Custom Report •
Lineage to Perspective’s Slice Report
•
Uses TM1 Worksheet functions to populate cells of report
•
Can be create using following methods: Convert from Exploration Convert from View in source tree From scratch by manually entering formula • • •
•
Context members defined by SUBNM and data cells by using DBRW formulas
•
Easy to blend data from 2 cube views into one report
•
When creating creating a Custom Report Report from a view, a View Statement is now added by default
Custom Report •
•
Uses TM1 Worksheet functions to populate cells of report Can be created using following methods: Convert from Exploration View Convert from a view in source tree From scratch by manually entering formulas • • •
•
•
The context members of a Custom Report can be defined by using SUBNM formulas to enable selectable members The data cells are defined by using DBRW formulas.
Custom Report Use Case Use Custom Reports in the following situations: •
•
Use a layout or format that you cannot achieve using a Quick Report When formatting is important, e.g. modifying an existing workbook with a format you like to contain live TM1 data that can receive and send data back to the server
•
To work with data from multiple servers and data sources in a report
•
Blend data from two cubes into one report
Demo: Dynamic Report •
Dynamic Report •
•
•
•
Dynamic Reports Reports use TM1 functions to define define the components of the report, such as context members, row members, and display properties. You can can create create a Dynamic Dynamic Report Report from scratch scratch or or by conver converting ting an Exploratio Exploration n View to a Dynamic Dynamic Report. Report. With Dynamic Reports, you can can create more complex complex reports while still using interactive features, such as expanding and collapsing rows. A Dynamic Report is similar in appearance to a Quick Report but has the following added benefits: Uses formulas to apply formatting to rows automatically. Row dimension elements are dynamic and can be driven by a subset, list, or MDX Dimensions and hierarchies can be updated automatically in the report when changes are made to the model, such as members are added or removed • • •
Dynamic Report •
•
Dynamic Reports support features available in Exploration or Quick report such as: •
Selectable context members
•
Nested row and column dimensions
•
Consolidated members on rows can be expanded or collapsed as needed
Naming Dynamic Reports Note: •
Do not use a dash in the name of the worksheet that contains the Exploration that you use to generate a Dynamic Report. Also, do not use a dash in the name of a worksheet that contains a Dynamic Report.
Dynamic Report Use Case Use Dynamic Dynamic Reports Reports:: •
To build a complex report report that cannot be easily achieved achieved with Quick Reports
•
To build reports with dynamic row members with customized formatting

What’s New? • • • •
•
What’s Changed? • • •
•
Easier member selection Attributes alongside member name Show cell value as Open as any report type
Auto-Calculation User Defined Consolidation/Rollup Context Menu functions
What’s Missing? • • •
Save TM1 View Format Cell Trace/Check Feeders Right to Left view

Demo: Exploration View Tips & Tricks •
Leverage context menu for faster member selection Keep / Hide selection View All / Unhide All, Expand to level, etc Undo/Redo Auto calculation always turned on Design Mode Use Insert Calculations: as replacement of User Defined Rollup for common Variance or % Variance calculations • •
• • • •
• • •
• • •
Or use “Insert user row/columns” for any excel formula calculations or simply for
inserting blank line for formatting purpose Exploration sheet have darker color Hide overview area Get and set MDX of underlying report (Useful when working with custom api or 3rd party)
Demo: Dynamic Report Tips & Tricks •
TM1RPTROW PAX uses MDX vs Perspective uses sub-elements in hidden Excel sheets Can right click on formula to edit via set editor visually vs tinkering with formula • •
•
•
Consolidated rows have have +/- Symbols vs none in Exploration. Refresh vs Rebuild vs Recreate Refresh for just data Rebuild required to push down new formatting Recreate when modifying the Primary row • • •
•
Do not use dash in worksheet name when naming a dynamic report or converting from Exploration view
Refer to “Notes for IBM TM1 Perspective users” page for additional information
Demo: Other Tips & Tricks •
