Prayers for Protection
A
nyone who’s ever been under demonic attack knows that connection to God is our only defence. A huge part of our connection to God is how we pray. But the oldest question question is, “How do we we pray?” pray?” There is the prayers of the heart, the prayers of the spirit and the prayers that we learn by wrote. The prayers of the heart are our outpouring of how we feel. They are a gift we can give to God. God always honors those. We can trust God with everything, our love, our pain, our anger, our hopes and our dreams. Just Just tell Him H im how you you feel. The prayers of the Spirit are a gift God gives to us. We are told when words fail us that God’s Spirit prays for us without words. We can trust the Holy Spirit to pray for us when we’re past words. The prayers we learn by wrote are tools to help shape our thoughts, feelings and ideas. They honor God if nothing else as an affirmation of where we want to go with God. All prayer is good. Any way we talk to God, honors His pulls us closer to His presence.

But we’ve we’ve found them very helpful for several reasons. We can cling to them in times of stress, fear, panic, loss and dread. They calm us. A prayer memorized helps us to focus on God instead of the dreadful and terrifying things that may be going on around us. They cover the basis of things we need to remember to say. God takes us as we are. The devil is much more legalistic, and will follow exactly what we we say in Christ’ Christ’ss name. So we want to get what we say say right. right. Wording really counts and it’ it’ss wise to have prayers memorized that you know will help. Some of the prayers in here are in Latin. We don’t know why, but it seems they’re particularly effective against demonic attack. It may may be some things just don’t don’t translate well. well. Don’t be afraid of Latin. It’s an old language, but the things we fight against are old, and they fear it. Memorized pra prayer yer can change how we feel about things. The things we say help create the way we feel.
It may or may not change God’s mind. But it does for a certainty change ours. It helps us think in different ways. It helps us grow in the image of Christ.
Prayers Pra yers to saints or angels a ngels We do not suggest prayers to any other created being. But we know that there are holy beings that are in the presence of God. We are told that angels and saints pray before the throne of God. They see God face to face. In the same way you would ask us to pray for you, ask them. Prayers of Saints Prayers These people fought the same battles, had the same fears and pains we have. We can learn about their relationship with God through the prayers they’ve used. Prayers to Mary Prayers Before Jesus died, he turned to John and told Him that Mary was his mother now. In that moment, she became our mother too. In their lives, liv es, He never refused an anything ything she asked of him, even if he thought it was silly, like the wine at the wedding at Cana. St. Patrick’s Breastplate
I
arise today through a mighty strength, s trength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness of the Creator of creation. I arise ar ise today through the strength of Christ with his Baptism, through the strength of His Crucifixion Cr ucifixion with His Burial, through the strength of His Resurrection with His Ascension, through the strength of His descent for the Judgment of Doom. I arise toda todayy through the strength of the love of Cherubim, in obedience of Angels, in the service ser vice of the Archangels, Archangels, in hope of resurrection to meet with reward, in prayers of Patriarchs, in predictions of Prophets, in preachings of Apostles, in faiths of Confessors,
in innocence of Holy Virgins, in deeds of righteous men. I arise today, through the strength of Heaven; light of Sun, brilliance of Moon, splendor of Fire, speed of Lightning, swiftness of Wind, depth of Sea, stability of Earth, firmness of Rock. I arise today, through God’s strength to pilot me: God’s might to uphold me, God’s wisdom to guide me, God’s eye to look before me, God’s ear to hear me, God’s word to speak for me, God’s hand to guard me, God’s way to lie before me, God’s shield to protect me, God’s host to secure me: against snares of devils, against temptations of vices, against inclinations of nature, against everyone who shall wish me ill, afar and anear, alone and in a crowd.
I summon today all these powers between betw een me and these evils: against every cruel cr uel and merciless power power that may oppose my body and my soul, against incantations of false prophets, against black laws of heathenry, against false la laws ws of heretics, against craft of idolatry, against spells of witches, smiths smiths and wizards, against every knowledge that endangers man’s body and soul. Christ to protect me toda todayy against poisoning, against burning, burning , against drowning, drowning, against wounding, so that there may come abundance in reward. Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ in breadth,
Christ in length, Christ in height, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me. I arise toda todayy through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness of the Creator of creation. Constant Pra Pray yers
T
he Bible tells us to pray constantly con stantly.. That’ That’ss hard. How do we focus where we are, and still continue to pray at all times? There are several ways to do that. One is to practice the presence of Christ. A kitchen monk named Brother Lawrence Lawrence realized that everything he did all day long as he peeled potatoes and cut up onions was in front of the presence of Christ. Chr ist. Whatev Whatever er he did, he gave to Jesus, who was always with him. He called that practising the constant presence presence of God Mother Teresa of Calcutta said that no small thing we give to God is small because when we give it to Him it becomes infinite. St Therese of Lisieux said that what matters is not great deeds but great love. Saints are people who have learned to live closer with God. We can learn a lot from their lives, struggles and thoughts. If we practise the presence and awareness of Christ moment to moment, we pull ourselves closer and closer to God.

Confessions
W
hy do we confess conf ess our sins? The only thing that keeps us from God is tour sins.
Are we sin sinner ners? s? Well ell,, yes. We are are.. We all fa fall ll short of the Glory of God. (Romans 3: 23) But Jesus loves us, died for us, and forgives everything we confess to Him. How do we we know something is wrong? Here are a re some questions we we can ask ourselves ourselves that make it clear if we’ve done or not done something that separates us from God and His love. Does it hurt/embarrass/ humiliate someone? Does it hurt/embarrass/ humilia humiliate te us? us? Does it leave us ashamed? Is it against scripture? Is it illegal? Would your church be concerned concer ned about it? Is it something you need to keep secret? Does it take take things away away from rightful ow owners? ners? Does it leave you or someone else feeling jealous, left out, angry or spiteful?
Not everything on this list is necessarily a sin. But it points to something within us that is painful, off, or wrong. It’s always right to ask Jesus to help us with these things. Anything we confess to God is utterly forgiven, and forgotten. The Bible says God puts our sins as far as east is from west from us. It is as if we never had done them. Once we’ve confessed, we are to forgive ourselves and forget our own sins as God as forgiven and forgotten. forgotten. You may want to make your confession to a priest or to a minister, but that’s not essential. You can also make your confession to any other Christian, or simply to God Himself. Himself . If you have a church that practices confession, follow their guidelines.Ask for their help. Many people who are under demonic attack find it a good idea to say an act of contrition contr ition as part of our evening prayers. If we go to bed with our sins confessed, our sins, the only things that can separate us from God, are gone. We’re safely in God’s hands. God forgives us. In turn, He asks us to forgive others and pray for them. We don’t d on’t have to like them. But in obedience, we pray forgivenenss for them. It releases us.
Act of Contrition
