‘Pols:’ The traditional built form Pols , typical of urban of urban centers of Gujarat of Gujarat are the residential precincts. The urban form of Ahmedabad of Ahmedabad within the fortified camp is created by over 360 pols at its founding in 1411. Pol is the socially identifiable unit of a of a homogeneous group of inhabitants. The built form of which of which is characterized by a densely packed clusters of contiguous of contiguous row or houses, flanked around meandering streets or open courts as street widening. The Khadia area is one of the of the oldest localities where the pols have been established. It houses pols which are believed to have established about 280 years ago. As per the 1824 survey, Khadia district has 1525 houses, 1303 of which of which being Hindu while the remaining being Moslem. These pols are named after the names of the of the localities, prominent initial settlers, owners of majority of majority property within the pol etc. commercialization of the of the inner core as the C.B.D the houses are being converted into shops and offices while traditional houses are eased to pave way for newer high rise apartments. These developments with its increased commercialization, Traffic volume and population densities have strained the infrastructure resources and capabilities eventually adversely influencing the quality of physical of physical social and living environments.
