PEREZ, JOSHUA CHRISWIN L. PHY12L/A4 ANALYSIS The experiment we did last meeting was “Kundt’s Tube: Velocity of sound in solid”. The materials we used for the experiment were:
Kundt’s Tube with clamp rod precisely at center with Lycopodium powder inside. To test the velocity of sound in metal rod
Thermometer to measure the air temperature in the room and affects the speed of sound of the apparatus.
Cloth with rosin inside used to
grip the rod while pulling at the
end of it to produce sound waves and strictly proper way of stroking the rod will give a high frequency of sound.
Meter stick to measure the length of rod and the tube
The information about the Young’s Modulus of the metal used in the experiment with density and specific heat.
The table above showed us the velocity of sound in solid. Group 3 started to obtained the measurement of the rod then carefully put some rosin in the cloth to tightly grip the end of the rod when pulling back and

CONCLUSION The main goals of experiment 303 is to find the velocity of sound in a metal rod using the equation provided in the manual or also the derived equations used by the professor, and to find the speed of sound in the tube using the principles of resonance. Resonance happens when one object forces to vibrate another object with the same frequency. As we observed we used Young’s modulus in the experiment because we were compressing the rod to produce sound in the tube and also it forms waves that will form because of lycopodium powder and the waves was parallel. The tube was a type of closed end therefore a node exists at this end since the movement of the air restricted.
