Opening Notes Tinkering with Icons is a scary business given that so many people have come to know and love the free builds on Optibuild.com. Therefore, the goal was to truly improve the Icons or to leave them alone altogether. Well, speaking for Youra Hoo Watt and Zen Gee, they are both greatly improved. Speaking about Zen Gee specifically, he was originally created as a Crane Style Zen Archer. Once Crane Style was nerfed by Paizo, Zen Gee was still one heck of an offensive force and still strong defensively. However, he was left with four open feats slots that could be filled with seeming any feats, but with none that put the build over the top more than another set of four feats. Then there was Optibuilds Skills PDF Part I and soon to be Part II. The result was spectacular. Zen Gee is now almost so offensive that he needs no defense and no escapability; but, of course, he has those things in spades. Long story short, Zen Gee on the back of a Dire Tiger or Giant Vulture is ridiculous. Good luck hitting or effecting with a saving throw ability any beast he mounts (Skill Focus (Ride), Mounted Combat, Trick Riding, Indomitable Mount). Further, he can still do just about everything the original Zen Gee can do. Now, Youra Hoo Watt was a tougher rebuild. Then there was Optibuilds Skills PDF Part I and soon to be Part II. Oh, and I thought of a way to get him six extra feats. It was game on. Turns out that giving a bow focused fighter a three level dip into Zen Archer and replacing the Human Bonus Feat with the Focus Study alternative racial trait + applying the Skills PDF is extra special. All of his saves are increased (Will Save has increased a much needed +5 in this build). He lost no archer feats. He even picked up Perfect Strike for bows and the ability to fight unarmed (if he should ever lose his bow). Oh, and he is no slouch with a mount at his side either. He also has Mounted Combat, Trick Shot and Skill Focus (Ride). Yes, there were a lot of abilities Youra Hoo Watt picked up from Zen Archer that he will not use: Flurry of Blow (for bows); Monks AC Bonus; Fast Movement; and Zen Archery. So what? We got plenty. Plus, it makes for good back story. He is the Fighter who could not hack it as a monk only to become a more proficient archer than his fellow Zen Archers.
So let’s take a quick glance at the stats for Zen Gee and Youra Hoo Watt at level 13. Youra Hoo Watt, Improved Bow: +26 (two arrows)/+26/+26/+21/+16 (1d8 + 20) (Hasted w/ Deadly Aim, Rapid Shot and Manyshot); Unarmed Hasted: +24/+24/+19/+14 (1d8 + 10); AC (29/+33 w/ Shield); Saves: Fort (+16), Ref (17), Will (+13/+16 vs. fear); CMD (+21 / +23 vs. Disarm and Sunder); HP (115); Speed (30ft); Initiative (+7); Zen Gee, Improved Bow: +24/+24/+24/+24/+19/+14 (1d8 +17) (19-20 x3) (Ki Attack, Hasted, Flurry, Deadly Aim); Unarmed Hasted: +14/+14/+9 (1d10 + 2); AC (34 Barkskin & Mage’s Armor included / 38 with Shield); Saves: Fort (+16), Ref (+15), Will (+18); CMD (25/ +27 vs. Disarm and Sunder); HP (114), Speed (60ft), Initiative (+4) General Strategy Both builds have the option of using wand of bloodhound and pheromone arrows to generate (+2attack / +2 damage) to each attack. Both builds are ride experts. So this means using ride to make your mount unhittable and mentally strong. One additional use of ride is to increase your AC by +4 with cover as an immediate action (so read the Ride Skill). Both build are incredible with Handle Animal Skill. It can be used for than training and handling your Tigers and Giant Vulture (firing from the air is great). You could acquire a number of pets to scout (eagles, cats, etc…) or perform other duties for you. You could even use wands to see through the eyes of your pets. Read the Optibuilds’ Skill PDF Part I to get ideas along this line and to get the most out of you Tigers and Vulture. As these builds are currently made, the wand selection is for general purpose. If you are choosing between these two builds, the choice comes down to playing the more defensively sound Zen Gee or the more offensively potent (both bow and melee) Youra Hoo Watt.
