In 1950 Antokre Domino scored a rhythm and blues hit with "The Fat Man" from which came the nickname of the indomitable Fats. His popularity has lasted for nearly four decades and has yielded many more successes. One of a musical family, his father was a prominent violinist, Fats' winsome manner and the melodic, catchy songs he sang made him a certain hitmaker. Only Elvis and the Beatles earned more gold records. Here are the songs which best celebrate the enduring magic of Fats Domino.
I'M IN LOVE AGAIN AINT THAT A SHAME! I'M WALKIN' BLUEBERRY HILL MY BLUE HEAVEN I HEAR YOU KNOCKING WALKIN' TO NEW ORLEANS
-
The unrestrained vigour and sexuality of UItle RkhanPs style of rock-'n'roll might have been a manifestation of a personal conflict between his desire for worldly success and a deeply held religious conviction. Historically his career was characterized by the alternate acceptance and . renunciation of rock music. Several versions of the story surrounding Richard's religious conversion exist but prior to entering Oakwood College, a bible school in Huntsville, Alabama, he dramatically hurled his jewellery into the waters of Sydney Harbour and recorded these lines:I'm quittin' show business, I want to go straight I'm going to serve my Lord, before it's too late... Later attempts to rekindle his career went largely unrewarded. A contemporary of Fats Domino, Little Richards' raunchy bombastic delivery is in direct contrast to Domino's relaxed, gentle performance but both serve to illustrate the versatility of true rock-'n'-roll. This selection of vintage hits contains all of the energy and excitement so typical of Little Richard at his best.
