ABSTRAK AKBAR SUHENDI. Pencirian Membran Mikrofiltrasi Nilon-6. Dibimbing oleh SRI MULIJANI dan AHMAD SJAHRIZA. Kendala yang utama dalam pengembangan teknologi membran saat ini adalah mahalnya bahan baku dan membran yang dihasilkan memiliki beberapa kelemahan seperti tidak tahan terhadap asam kuat, basa kuat, dan suhu tinggi. Untuk mengatasi hal itu, beberapa tahun terakhir telah dikembangkan pembuatan membran berbahan baku nilon. Nilon yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah benang nilon-6. Membran dibuat dengan metode pembalikan fasa. Benang nilon-6 dilarutkan ke dalam HCl 22.5% sampai terbentuk larutan homogen yang siap cetak. Konsentrasi nilon-6 dibuat tiga ragam masing-masing 30%b/v (Na), 35%b/v (Nb), dan 40%b/v (Nc). Seperangkat alat saring cross-flow digunakan untuk pencirian membran nilon-6 yang diperoleh, meliputi pengukuran nilai fluks air serta nilai fluks dan indeks rejeksi bovine serum albumin (BSA). Selain itu, digunakan juga scanning electron microscopy untuk analisis permukaan membran nilon-6. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai fluks air membran nilon-6 meningkat seiring bertambahnya tekanan. Nilai fluks air terbesar diperoleh pada tekanan 0.4826 bar dengan rerata untuk membran Na, Nb, dan Nc berturut-turut 180.7018 L/m2 jam, 104.4127 L/m2 jam, dan 94.5062 L/m2 jam. Oleh karena itu, membran nilon-6 yang dihasilkan memiliki fungsi mikrofiltrasi. Penambahan konsentrasi nilon-6 menurunkan nilai fluks air dan fluks BSA. Sebaliknya, penambahan konsentrasi nilon-6 menyebabkan peningkatan indeks rejeksi BSA. Membran nilon-6 yang dihasilkan memiliki struktur pori yang tidak seragam dengan diameter pori ± 3µm.
ABSTRACT AKBAR SUHENDI. Nylon-6 Microfiltration Membrane Characterization. Supervised by SRI MULIJANI and AHMAD SJAHRIZA. The main problem to develop membrane technology are the price of raw material which is highly expensive and the membrane products have some weaknesses such as not durable in strong acid, strong base, and high temperature. To solve these problems, membrane made of nylon has developed in the last several years. This experiment used nylon-6 yarn as raw material. The membrane made with phase inversion method. Nylon-6 yarn was dissolved into HCl 22.5% until homogeneous casting solution formed. The concentration was made in three variations, 30%b/v (Na), 35%b/v (Nb), and 40%b/v (Nc), respectively. A cross-flow instrument was used to characterize nylon-6 membrane, included water flux measurement and rejection index of bovine serum albumin (BSA). Beside that, scanning electron microscopy instrument was also used to analyze nylon-6 membrane suface. The results showed that water flux value of nylon-6 membrane increased with increasing pressure. The greatest water flux value obtained by 0.4826 bar pressure with average value for Na, Nb, and Nc membrane were 180.7018 L/m 2 hour, 104.4128 L/m2 hour, and 94.5062 L/m2 hour, respectively. Therefore, the membrane had a microfiltration function. Increasing nylon-6 concentration was caused decreasing water flux and BSA flux value. On the other hand, increasing nylon-6 concentration was also increasing BSA rejection index. The nylon-6 membrane has a nonhomogenous pore structure with pore diameter of ± 3µm.
