“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster.”
-
Friedrich Nietzsche The concept idea of "OFFICER"
The police learn from criminals to prevent their next crime. But in the process some of them become criminals themselves. This is the story of such one police Officer who went after another Officer.
Though its business is preventing crime, the Police is also like any other underworld Company. Legal aspects apart, the difference between the two is that an underworld company is primarily intended for making monetary profits whereas a police organisation is meant to be duty bound and is intended to keep on evolving a procedural system to fight crime. But any organization is eventually run by human beings who inherently like any other human being would have greed, ego and ambition, due to which many times they try to overrun an organisation. This story of "OFFICER" is about such people. STORY FLOW Pre-act:
INT. UNDERGROUND PARKING LOT. NIGHT It’s night and a Scoda reaches an underground parking lot. A man Narayan Pasari) in his 40's opens the door and gets off. He Narayan (
takes the lift and opens the door of a flat with his key and enters in. INT. PASARI HOUSE. NIGHT He visits his aged mother in the inner room. While taking off his shirt he gets a call. He sees the ID "Sawant Sir" and comes to attention. NARAYAN PASARI Sir! SAWANT Where are you?
NARAYAN PASARI just reached home sir SAWANT (silent for a while) NARAYAN PASARI Sir? SAWANT Can you just come down to my place? NARAYAN PASARI Sure sir. Cut to: INT. PARKING LOT Narayan Pasari parks his vehicle in another apartment block A servant opens the door and takes him to a man in his 50s having a drink. Even though that man is in plain clothes their body language tells us they are cops and we also can tell that the man having the drink is a superior to Narayan Pasari by the way he sits and talks. His name is Sawant. SAWANT Soda or water? NARAYAN PASARI No sir I stopped drinking. SAWANT Sure? NARAYAN PASARI Yeah. SAWANT Well Narayan Pasari. I just want to talk something. Do you remember 5 years ago much before you went into the encounter squad when we were at Gohwlchowki police station, I arrested this guy called Rizvi? Narayan Pasari thinks. SAWANT
..in a trafficking case NARAYAN PASARI That long haired guy. He created quite a scene swearing revenge on you? SAWANT Yeah the same one. He was inside for 4 years. Around six months back he came out. (After a long pause). Somehow he managed to get a pic of my college going daughter and morphed that picture with the naked body of some other woman… (takes a deep breath) …
with her legs spread apart. And sent it to me. He also put her personal number soliciting sex (taking a large swig of a drink and banging the table with the empty glass). That motherfucking son of a bitch knows that there is nothing I can do. Because to make it a case, I would have to show it to my subordinates, from where it will go to the media and eventually it might even go to my daughter. Narayan Pasari listens. SAWANT With whatever I managed to make of myself – my career, my name and everything, I feel like an impotent bastard because of this. There’s nothing I can do and he knows it (tears start to fall).
(After a long pause) Anyways just wanted to share it with someone and I thought of you. Sure you won't have a drink? NARAYAN PASARI No sir. Thanks. SAWANT Sorry for dragging you out this late. Narayan Pasari gets up. NARAYAN PASARI See you sir. Off he goes. cut to EXT. ON ROAD DRIVING VEHICLE Narayan Pasari while driving makes a few calls and takes a turn into a lane. As he knocks on a door a long haired drunk guy opens the door and Narayan Pasari shoots him in the head.
Narayan Pasari goes home and sleeps and early in the morning as he is making coffee there's breaking news on the TV that an exconvict called Rizvi was shot dead and he gets a message. He picks up the phone to see its from from Sawant ..it just says “Thanx.” Titles start rolling.
1. In a highly tense sequence in Mumbai an action team of undercover cops headed by Narayan Pasari kill 7 gangsters which also results in the deaths of four of the police team members. 2. We see intercuts of newspaper and TV clips as the media hails the work of Narayan Pasari for nipping this new gang in the bud and calls the dead cops martyrs and hails Narayan Pasari's long and exemplary track record. But surprisingly one of the news reports from a sensational news channel called 10x suddenly breaks out news that a writ petition is filed in the high court that it was actually a fake encounter. The high court on the basis of some prima facie evidence orders for a probe. In a very stylized montage with unusual shots of Mumbai intercut/dissolve/morphed with some newspaper headlines and reports with relevance to the content, the below voice over comes in. As long as the notorious gangsters Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Rajan were together they had an iron grip on the crime world of Mumbai which ironically created peace in the city..That's because none of the other gangs had the courage to tangle with the D company and hence they were compelled to lie low. But the 1993 serial blasts caused a split between the two and the aftereffects of this gave rise to a number of splinter gangs who started fighting among themselves and they were also hell bent on proving their supremacy to the city and this created an unprecedented upsurge in the criminal activities of the underworld which resulted in innumerable contract killings and extortion activities. An angry government took stringent steps and all the gangs were slowly and surely decimated and destroyed by a specially constituted squad headed by a man named Pasari. It was Pasari's ruthless determination which resulted in the killings of more than 300 gangsters between 1999 and 2004 which practically and literally ran the underworld into under the ground. Then in 2005 the so called encounter squad was disbanded as the government no longer saw any need for it and all its members
including Pasari were relocated on to various other jobs in the police. A few years after the dissolution of the squad a writ petition was filed by a ganglord's brother Rajaya on Pasari in the Mumbai high court on allegations of corruption, fake encounters and racketeering. On the basis of some primafacie evidence produced, the Mumbai high court ordered for a special investigation team to be set up headed by a young IPS officer (Our Hero) to investigate the allegations. 3. We introduce the Hero in Hyderabad Police Academy beating some policemen and teaching them defense skills. 3a. Hero gets to know that he is appointed as SIT Chief and that he has to go to Mumbai. 3b. Hero comes home to his Daughter and tells her about his new posting as the chief of Special investigation team and talks what he knows about Narayan Pasari. He regrets that he is going to investigate his favorite and the top cop. Hero tells her that he himself is an admirer of Narayan Pasari from his training days for his contribution in destroying the underworld and he says that he feels sad that they are penalising Narayan Pasari for the good work he has done. Daughter asks Hero if it is necessary to do such a thankless job. 4. Hero and Daughter reach Mumbai and are greeted by heroin who is a cop and her junior Haneef who both were known to Hero in the academy. 5. En route to Hero’s new home, Heroine tells Hero that
underworld activities slowed down a lot until this shooting incident just now. But Haneef feels Narayan Pasari should not be taken for granted and tells an anecdote about Narayan Pasari which comes as a shock to Daughter. 6. At home Hero tells her that he believes Narayan Pasari is being framed by a nexus of police and underworld elements because of their past enmity between themselves and also against Narayan Pasari. Daughter asks Hero how he can be empathetic towards a person who at the end of the day killed hundreds. Hero reasons out that deep inside he understands that what Narayan Pasari was doing is a thankless job of going beyond the law to protect the law.
7. We see Narayan Pasari for the first time with his mistress Shaalu. We get to know that Shaalu's husband is an ex-gangster and was killed by Narayan Pasari long ago. While Narayan Pasari is making love to Shaalu he gets to know that a special investigation team has been constituted against him and an IPS officer (Hero) has been given charge. 8. Hero goes to formally report to the JCP (Joint commissioner of police) who is the same Sawant, who asked Narayan Pasari to kill his daughter’s harasser Rizvi. Hero tells the commissioner that he is appointed as the SIT Chief to investigate Narayan Pasari’s case. We get to know that Hero will constitute his own
team and the SIT does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai commissioner but is directly supervised by the Mumbai high court. Sawant promises him full cooperation. 9. Narayan Pasari in an under construction building’s terrace
meets his gang of policemen and informers including gangsters as he gets to know about Hero’s moves. He says that he’s the most
dangerous cop in Mumbai city and ridicules Hero saying what can a Hyderabad police do to the most dangerous cop of Mumbai? 10. Hero calls up Narayan Pasari and asks for a meeting with him to take a formal statement. Narayan Pasari comes and Hero expresses his respect for him and tells him that he feels really unfortunate to meet him in such circumstances. Narayan Pasari says that he understands that it's Hero's job. Pasari leaves the place without even shaking hands with Hero. 11. Hero talks about Narayan Pasari’s situation with his
associates Heroine and Haneef even as Daughter is present. Hero says that he believes that what Narayan Pasari did could be a fake encounter which could be justified on a necessity level. When he tells Daughter that the police and judiciary by their very nature cannot afford to have moral sympathy on lawbreakers, Daughter retorts by asking what's the case if the very police is the law breaker. As much as Hero tries to explain to her, her logic is equally strong. 12. Meanwhile after talking to his unwell mother for a while and putting her to sleep, Narayan Pasari on phone talks to his son who stays in a hostel. We get to know Narayan Pasari's wife died a long time back in an accident. He then speaks to Nakki on the phone. 13. Intro of Nakki in Dubai who was an ex-associate of Dawood
but who now branched out. They discuss about Hero. 14. Hero meets Gorak a suspended ex associate but now a sworn enemy of Narayan Pasari. Gorak tells him the truth about Narayan Pasari and tells that in politice and mafia, nothing is what it seems. 14a.Hero meets and investigates a few others in a series of montages. 14b. Hero reveals his shock to Daughter that Narayan Pasari is not what he thought he was and a witness Swamy is irrefutable proof of that. 15. Hero with all the information from Swamy, prepares an arrest strategy with his associates to arrest Narayan Pasari and his associates. 16. Hero calls Narayan Pasari when he is with Shaalu. 17. Narayan Pasari is arrested in a nail-biting sequence: Hero sends action teams to catch all the accused associates of Pasari at once at different places except for the prime accused, Pasari. Hero personally calls up for Pasari and manages to arrests him in his office amidst high terror and tension. Hero sends his action teams to catch all the associates of Narayan Pasari at once at different places except for the prime accused, Mr. Narayan Pasari himself. Hero personally calls up for Narayan Pasari and manages to arrest him in his office amidst high terror and tension: Hero gives Narayan Pasari his case file and asks him to formally go through it. In the middle of dead silence, while Narayan Pasari is reading the 25-page case file, Pasari gets a text message which says that hero's action team caught all the accused associates of Pasari. Unfettered, Narayan Pasari shows no emotion and continues to go through the case file. Hero, being certain of what the text message is about, feels shocked to see Narayan Pasari not reacting at all. Dreaded hero slowly opens his table’s chest and reaches for his gun. He slowly brings the gun towards his lap and points it towards Narayan Pasari. Narayan Pasari, sensing what is happening, still doesn’t make a move. Terrified hero
takes his mobile out and texts his associates to enter the room to assist him in arresting Pasari. Hero them explains the situation to Narayan Pasari and asks him to call off the duty and remove the badge. Narayan Pasari gets up and walks two steps backward and asks if he can make a phone call. Hero agrees.
Narayan Pasari calls his woman and tells her that he will meet her in the court during hearing. Narayan Pasari again asks hero if he can make another phone call, but this time only to talk alone. Hero disagrees saying that it can’t be possible because after all he is arrested already. Narayan Pasari asks one more time if he can talk on phone going to a corner of the room. Hero says no to him and just then an associate moves forward to take Narayan Pasari into custody. Narayan Pasari shrugs in conceit. Hero gets up in a fit of terror and points his gun at Narayan Pasari to stop him. The entire team of associates roundup Narayan Pasari with their guns. Narayan Pasari looks at hero with contempt amidst of this high drama while getting arrested. 18. JCP Sawant to clear the air gives a media interview on corruption of cops by becoming the face of the whole department. He also makes a very antagonistic comment on Narayan Pasari’s
methods and character. Narayan Pasari watches this in his custody. 19. Narayan Pasari is sent to jail and is kept in a cell along with a gangster called Iqbal who he himself arrested in the past. Iqbal humiliates Narayan Pasari. Rage is building up inside. 20. A meeting happens among some politicos along with Minister Sonaki. They are worried that if Narayan Pasari remains too long in jail, he might reveal some truths during the interrogation. 21. Swamy the witness in Narayan Pasari's case is mysteriously found murdered and his body is found near Hero's house which obviously was meant as a warning to Hero. Daughter is terrified. 22. In the absence of the main witness, the court rules that the prosecution failed to prove the case and acquits Narayan Pasari. 22a: Both Gorak and Hero watch the news report. 23. Nakki calls to congratulate Narayan Pasari and just then there's an attack on Narayan Pasari in which he escapes but his mother gets killed in the shootout. 24. JCP Sawant and Hero meet. Since Narayan Pasari was acquitted the SIT stands dissolved and Hero is now working under the JCP. Hero says that it looks like an attack of gangsters who once worked with Narayan Pasari as but parted from him on bad terms. JCP says that it is the need for the hour for the whole department to keep check on Narayan Pasari’s increasing power.
25. Narayan Pasari being cleared of charges is released and reinstated back into the police and he celebrates with Shaalu and talks to his son on phone. 26. Narayan Pasari re-joins the police and formally meets the JCP where even Hero is incidentally present in the room. Hero and Narayan Pasari shake hands. Pasari hides his anger. They discuss about the death of Narayan Pasari's mother. JCP nevertheless feels happy for Narayan Pasari being cleared of all the charges and congratulates him for his work and also assures that since there's no underworld anymore there will be peace. Hero is shocked at JCP’s drastic change in behaviour. After
Narayan Pasari leaves, JCP explains that he needed to do it. 26a. Pasari talks in a press meet and says that he is back. 27. The very next day the JCP is shot dead. This triggers a panic wave across the city. Hero hears the news in shock. 28. No one takes responsibility of the assassination in the media but privately a lot of sudden extortion calls and mysterious threats start coming to the various rich and famous people like industrialists to businessmen to politicians to film personalities from a new underworld Organization. 28a. Gorak tells Hero that it's Narayan Pasari. 29. The top brass of the police and politicos have an emergency meeting to discuss the new gang and in the meeting Hero looks at Narayan Pasari while Narayan Pasari stays unflinchingly calm. 30. Hero discusses about Narayan Pasari with Daughter who tells him that he cannot frame Narayan Pasari unless he finds another strong evidence like Swamy. Daughter complains that ever since they have moved to Bombay, their personal lives have been taken over by this case. Hero takes his daughter for an outing to cheer her up. 31. Narayan Pasari at home is crying even as he makes love to Shaalu thinking of his dead mother. In the whole scene we feel a sense of a psychopathic streak in Narayan Pasari. 32. Daughter wakes up from a nightmare and says that she has had the worst nightmare ever which she feels will come true. She
says that Narayan Pasari could be vengeful and insists that he should get himself transferred. Even as she tells him to stop doing this thankless job, Hero calms her down. 33. The home minister formulates a new squad to hunt down the new company and due to his track record and experience appoints Narayan Pasari as its head much to the dismay of Hero and worse is when he himself is appointed to work under Narayan Pasari. 34. Narayan Pasari makes a surprise visit to meet Gorak. He says he suspects that Gorak was one of the forces behind his arrest but thinks they should just leave their grudges aside. Gorak agrees. 35. Hero gets a tip from the people who have been following Gorak and is shocked to hear about his meeting with Narayan Pasari. 36. Just when Hero is enraged about Gorak, Gorak meets him and tells he's just pretending to be helping Narayan Pasari. Hero gets convinced. 37. Gorak immediately meets Narayan Pasari and tells him that he met Hero according to the plan. 38. Haneef tells Heroine and Hero that as long as they can't make their investigation on Narayan Pasari official, they have no other choice but to enlist someone like Nayak in the underworld to help track the support system of Narayan Pasari. A frustrated Hero finally decides to meet Nayak and tells them to arrange a meeting after much ado. 39. Intro of Nayak. 40. Nayak and Hero meet; Much to Hero’s surprise Nayak
introduces himself as the anonymous caller who helped Hero to crack Narayan Pasari’s case. Nayak tells Hero that he is working for Government only and tells that nothing is as it seems in politics and mafia. Nayak reveals his enmity with Narayan Pasari and says that he knows Narayan Pasari is doing everything with the help of Nakki and the only way to stop this is to kill him. But Hero disagrees saying that they need to catch the nexus rather than just Narayan Pasari himself and that's because the way the new company is operating it’s impossible for Narayan Pasari to do it
alone without a considerable man power, financial and political
support. Nayak agrees to help and shakes hand with Hero. But after Hero is gone we reveal that the meeting has been video recorded by somebody in the gang. 41. Daughter gets to know about Hero’s meeting with Nayak and
goes overboard expressing her disdain. But he tells his Daughter about the services Nayak is giving to the department. Daughter questions her father of the integrity of the department. She also questions his involvement with gangsters. Hero promises and reassures Daughter saying that he will end it very soon. 42. Suddenly out of the blue Narayan Pasari cordially invites Hero, Daughter and others to his home on the ocassion of him and Shalu deciding to get married. Daughter suspects that Narayan Pasari is planning to kill them all. Hero brushes it off saying that Narayan Pasari is neither mad nor stupid. 43. While everybody is having a good time at Narayan Pasari’s
home, Hero tries to act normal yet hysterically searches every nook and cranny to find nothing. In a dramatic contrast, Narayan Pasari is busy detailing Hero’s Daughter about his mother's
recipe for a certain dish. Narayan Pasari gets emotional about his mother. Daughter and Shailu have a chat. Narayan Pasari hints to Hero that he knows about the Nayak meeting. 44. Hero immediately goes to Nayak to tell him that there might be a traitor in his group. As Narayan Pasari knew that Hero would contact Nayak now, he tips off Nakki about Hero secretly meeting Nayak. Nakki sends his men there led by his main man Yakub. 44a. As Hero explains about the infiltration in his gang, Nayak singles out the traitor and calls his main man to hold on to the traitor. But his man says that the traitor is already dead. As Nayak is in shock, suddenly Yakub’s men start attacking. Amidst a tense action sequence, Nayak manages to escape but Heroine gets killed as she was accompanying Hero. Haneef's life is saved and so is Hero's who barely manages to run out. Hero is enraged with the death of heroine. 45. Hero reaches home slightly injured and Daughter is shocked to see him in that state. She senses a change in Hero because she never saw such rage in him 46. Home minister Sonaki conducts a meeting. Narayan Pasari blames Hero for not disclosing why he illegally met Nayak.
47. Yakub informs Nakki on phone that Nayak got saved. As Yakub requests for a second attempt to kill Nayak, Nakki tells Yakub to do nothing and wait and watch. 48. Nakki calls Narayan Pasari and insists on Narayan Pasari to finish off both Nayak and Hero before they do something to counter them. Narayan Pasari counters Nakki telling that he knows what to do and how to do. Nakki calls Haneef and tells he wants to talk something about Nayak. 49. Hero is on vengeful mode knowing Haneef is found dead. 49a. Seeing the way Hero justifies his actions and association with Nayak, Daughter feels tremendously worried to see a radical change happening in Hero. 50. Narayan Pasari addresses his team and tells them that Nayak as the head of the new underworld and he also produces the videotape of Hero's meeting with Nayak. Hero is suspended pending enquiry. 51. Hero reaches home and tells Daughter that he has been suspended. She says that she does not seem to recognize the man her father has become. She says she wants to go back home. He apologises and pleads with her to stay back until he finishes the case. 52. Narayan Pasari and Gorak discuss the case of Hero sitting in the front seats of the car with Narayan Pasari driving. As Narayan Pasari artfully extracts the answers he needed about Hero and Nayak, a man in the back suddenly puts a garrotte around his neck and starts strangling Gorak. Narayan Pasari tells a dying Gorak that since he was not really sure whether he was his or Hero's man he doesn’t want to take a chance. 53. Hero gets shocked to hear of Gorak's death but since he believes that he is Narayan Pasari's man he doesn't suspect Narayan Pasari. 54. Nayak calls Hero and tells that his gang is finished off overnight. He tells that Narayan Pasari is hellbent on destroying them and urges to kill Narayan Pasari before he kills him. Hero lies to Daughter when she asks what the phone call is about. As she senses it, he feels almost dead.
54a. Just then somebody leaks the videos of Hero meeting Nayak and Hero is outright accused by the media. A tv channel demands a new investigation to be started on Hero. 55. Nakki calls Hero to say thank you for making it easier for his gang by finishing Nayak’s gang. Nakki also tells him he
knows that Narayan Pasari is behind the whole plan, including Gorak's death, and asks Hero if he is interested in working with him towards finishing off Narayan Pasari. He convinces Hero that he feels Hero will be a better option for him. Hero declines. 56. Nakki on phone tells somebody that they don't have any use with Nayak anymore. 56a. Nayak is dead. Hero pushed to the edge decides to collaborate with Nakki and finally contacts his man Yakub for weapons, men and information. Yakub calls Nakki and tells that his plan has worked. 57. Hero goes on obsessively about finishing off Narayan Pasari’s network. An infuriated Hero plans the ending of Narayan Pasari’s network and in a montage that follows him destroying Narayan Pasari’s power centre, he finally meets the home
minister Sonaki and provokes him to reveal everything he knows. As Sonaki starts talking, he gets mysteriously shot dead. Hero flees. 58. Narayan Pasari comes to meet Daughter and tells her that Hero has killed Home Minister Sonaki. He tells that it’s Hero who killed Gorak too. Daughter is shocked. 58a. Yakub tells Hero that he established contact with Shalu and she's willing to snitch on him for a price. As both Hero and Yakub leave for Shalu, just then Hero's phone rings. 59. Narayan Pasari from Hero’s home calls Hero and while Hero is listening, Narayan Pasari explains Daughter that he already knows that Hero’s next target would be Shaalu who holds some
information with regard to his network and tells Daughter that he had to kill Shaalu before Hero could find her. Both Daughter and Hero are shocked. Now Narayan Pasari accuses Hero of being in cohorts with Yakub and threatens Hero to kill Yakub in a blood curdling sequence of high tension. Hero finally kills Yakub and then shouts at Narayan Pasari to leave his place. Narayan Pasari says he is just having a casual chat with Daughter and tells Hero to come and discuss. Narayan Pasari hangs up and Hero rushes in panic to save his Daughter.
60. Narayan Pasari then tells a panicked Daughter that Hero is working with Nakki now and asks her what the difference between him and Hero is. He then asks about Hero's behavior at home and other questions to prove his claim. Daughter accuses Narayan Pasari of lying, manipulation and deceit. In a heated moment, he shoots her and as she is lying down critically injured, he agrees with her accusations and also tells that he used everyone. Then he explains how the department can consume an individual and tells how Hero became the reason behind the murders of his mother, Sawant, Heroine, Swamy, Gorak, Nayak, Shalu and many others and how he remains the blockade in the process of him wanting to become both the next JCP and the head of the new underworld. As a shocked Daughter is dumbstruck, Narayan Pasari makes a call to Nakki to make a deal and just then Hero arrives and a chase ensues which results in the death of his daughter. 60a. Hero pleads Daughter to forgive him but Daughter dies after saying she hates him for getting her into this situation and she also says that she is relieved to die. 60b. After she dies Hero chases Narayan Pasari into an under construction building and beats him to death. We see the same psychopathic streak in his eyes which Narayan Pasari had. Pasari is dead. 61. As the police and Ambulance take away Narayan Pasari's and Daughter's bodies Hero sits there on the steps and starts crying. From his close up the camera goes up to show the skyline of Mumbai and the end credits roll. The End
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: Narayan Pasari
Aged 41. Encounter cop. A waif with a switchblade soul. He is the most celebrated top cop that could be the greatest gangster. As smart as a cop can come, his reputation as the toughest man on the forces has been well earned. His simplicity and brevity are what make his character unforgettable. Looks: Square-jawed, strong build, sturdy, muscular, barrel chested, a born fighter with something wary around his eyes. He moves with the stocky, stiff-legged gait of a former athlete. His peppy, upbeat demeanour just barely masks a seething sense of beastly danger and frustration continues underneath his skin. A face so long out of the sun, it seems almost leached - except for the glittering eyes, and the wet red mouth. His voice is cultured, soft. When he begins to exchange dialogue, it's clear that he is polite, brilliant, but fiendishly complex as he quickly controls the situation by delving into anyone's psyche, illustrating their weaknesses. If contemplated, his life could be considered sad - his wife and mother dead, he is out of job and imprisoned, etc. but with his style, attitude, charm, and impeccable timing in personality he turns any depressing or disturbing situation into a glamorized sequence that leaves us wishing that we were him. He kills with a chilling ease that could make any of his team members shudder. His appearance, presence, and actions make him the ultimate image of evil. It is this lethal and mixed combination of anticipation, action, and dialogue which creates a suspenseful, unique, and hauntingly unforgettable character. Wears clean-cut casuals, jeans, pleated khaki pants, golf shirt/tshirt and boots. Sawant
Aged 50, JCP of Mumbai. Looks: A tall unctuous man with a high domed balding head and a perpetual expression of moral superiority. He has a daughter whom he is extremely protective about. His presence is authoritative and commanding from the first moment his silhouette is seen in the introduction, maintaining power in the scenes by his actions and attitude. He looks placid but there’s a sense of danger in him - he’s scarred on the inside. His personality not only illustrates many complex and
dichotomous character traits, but also plants some of the main themes of the movie: manipulation, opportunism and control. Hero
Aged 35. IPS and SIT chief. A young man who knows more about living inside the system than living outside one. He is dressed well and there's a slight show of restless intelligence and well brought up. Capable and strong willed. Handsome, well groomed, clean shaven, wears formals and spects. Daughter
Aged 6. Daughter of hero. Modern, sophisticated, and jaw-droppingly beautiful. Sweet looking and a girl next door face. Heroine Aged 34, a batchmate of Hero during training days, he is also one of Hero's most trusted associates. Even though a subordinate to Hero, Heroine for all his experience and wisdom gets from Hero a respect as high as any superior can get. Haneef
Aged 31. A batchmate of hero during training days and also one of hero's most trusted associates. Medium built and has an attractive babyface - an aura of innocence. Swamy
A fiftyish man with rumpled look and relaxed manner which suggest that casualness runs deep in him. Everything about him embodies a comical laziness - from his appearance to the fact that he is not sure whether he should help the department or not. But what is most striking about him is that he was an exassociate of Nakki the Dubai fled gangster who parted ways and became an arch rival. He is also very much pissed off at Narayan Pasari as he thinks Narayan Pasari is playing double games.
Shaalu 40, once extremely beautiful, in her late thirties she’s still very striking with an almost soldierly quality of “anything’s possible when you’re in control.” She makes herself comfortable
at Narayan Pasari's place even though Narayan Pasari killed her husband. Her appearance is even more eccentric and over the top than the monstrosity of Narayan Pasari and that's what which made Narayan Pasari fall for her. Shaalu bears a slight resemblance to Daughter, but is not as overtly attractive. She does, however, have a definite carnal appeal and air of confidence that Daughter lacks. Her physically intimidating attributes masks a very complicated and dangerous anger. She has trouble making eye contact and sometimes it is hard to tell whether she is talking to you or to herself. Just to physically demonstrate her emotional state: She leaves her used clothes on Narayan Pasari's bedspread, tosses her cigarette carelessly in the trashcan, throws Narayan Pasari's gun in the fish tank, and even mocks Narayan Pasari at times. And when Narayan Pasari is reluctant to respond, she takes control by throwing him across the bed, forcing him to react. There is a curious style, a great sense of high voltage about her attire. She is usually dressed in black no matter what she wears. And also she shocks by wearing some unusually shocking clothes for the wrong occasions - house pajamas, leopard-patterned scarf, turbans of same material, etc. She drinks when under pressure. Rizvi
Early forties. A long haired and a usually drunk guy specialized in trafficking. Pasari's mother
Late sixties. She usually sits in a chair, staring ahead. The light is gone from her eyes, her face is a blank mask. Narayan Pasari's son
Eight years old. He is big for his age and slightly plump and has frizzy hair and wears black rimmed glasses. He studies very earnestly. Nakki
57 years. A Dubai fled gangster. Just with phone calls he gets into head and can manipulate the whole underworld. Anticipation is built in every step on the way to Nakki. Every character in the story anticipates his physical introduction because of the danger and mystery already surrounding him throughout the film. The police department describes Nakki as "a monster." His associates like Yakub describe him as a man in late 50s, who refused to let go of his youth ever since. His rivals like Swamy and Naik describe him as darkness and shadow. He clearly demonstrates the power of anticipation and when it leads up to his introduction, we finally get to see him with thick glasses, thick moustache, long hair, appearing all in black. His voice makes the moment even more dramatic. He immediately commands respect as everyone stand at attention. He is probably the coolest 57-year-old on the planet. Gorak
He is 38 but his eyes are much older. Underneath his tranquillity lurks something wounded... and dangerous. Narayan Pasari's once associate and close friend, and now a double cross. Wears clean-cut casuals, jeans, pleated khaki pants, golf shirt/tshirt and boots. He is a man to be feared. Also he is extremely good with gun. Iqbal (36)
The smoothest, coolest gangster son-of-a-bitch you’ve ever seen. Arrested by Narayan Pasari in the past, he orally confronts Narayan Pasari when placed in the same lock up with him. Although he is extremely charismatic and likable, Iqbal has a self-destructive nature and an inability to conform to authority. Home Minister Sonaki
A politician of 60 with the attire of a Hollywood action veteran. Naik (55)
