MIHAN MULTI MODAL INTERNATIONAL HUB AIRPORT AT NAGPUR OPENING NEW VISTAS FOR BUSINESSMEN & ENTREPRENEURS On the path to Global Glory India today is acknowledged as the emerging economic superpower of the new millennium, riding on the crest of economic reforms, investment- environment and matching initiatives on the ground level. Of these, one initiatives stands out as future definingThe Multi-Modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN). It is an ambitious project that promises to put India firmly on the fast track to economic superstardom. The project envisages India’s first international airport with Passengers and Cargo Hub with adjacent Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Centre of India. MAHARASHTRA – THE ECONOMIC POWER HOUSE OF INDIA MIHAN project is situated in the State of Maharashtra, the economic power house. It is one of the most developed and urbanized State of India with per capita income of 1.5 times the national average. It is the number one destination for foreign investment and also contributes highest to the country’s taxation and exports. It is the best infrastructure provider in the country and has logged much above national average development and growth rate over the last decade.
NAGPUR-The Core Strength of India Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra has a strategic geographic central location in India as well as on the international aviation routes. It has connectivity to all parts of India by National Highways as well as main trunk rail routes. It also has an excellent air connectivity. The city has well planned roads, water supply, power and telecommunication infrastructures, winning the most clean and green city award. Nagpur is a cosmopolitan city ranking second in India. The city has a population of about 3 million and is considered as the second tier city of India.
Spread over an area of about 250 Sq. Km, it has a great agricultural and minerals rich hinterland with huge forests. Nagpur is the educational and business centre of Central India with 27 engineering colleges and 13 medical colleges in and around the Nagpur churning out about 8,500 Engineers and 3,000 Doctors every year. Nagpur’s unique central location in the Indian sub continent makes it ideal for passengers and cargo hub on the air routes between South East Asia and Middle East Asia/ Europe. Development of an interface between Air Cargo, Rail Cargo and Road Cargo makes Nagpur the location for developing facilities of Multi-Modal International Hub Airport. ROLE OF MCED MIHAN- INNOVATIVE ACTIVITY CELL : MCED Mihan- innovative activity cell form on 3rd june 2009 at 1st floor ,udyog bhavan, civil line Nagpur for developing hard & soft skill man power in Vidharbha region for present industrial senerio and up coming mihan project at Nagpur. The scientific serve of man power required in existing industrial senerio and mihan innovative hard & soft skill is completed. The mihan innovative activity hard & soft skill training with entrepreneurship development inputs franchisee networking, identification, inspection, module designing work in Nagpur city is completed. The franchisee networking for innovative skills in aviation, cargo services, IT, Hospitals, Tours & Travels, Foreign Languages, Retail Management, BPO, KPO, Export, Corporate Trainings, Organization & Management development programme in Vidharbha Region is is in progress. MADC – Gateway to Lucrative Trade Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC), established by Government of Maharashtra is the nodal implementing agency for MIHAN. Headed by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra State as its Chairman, MADC comprises of a mission driven team of professionals and experts from all sector. With the registered office in Mumbai, MADC’s project office at Nagpur supervises & controls execution of the project, which is moving towards completion. The first International Hub Airport in the country is all geared up to become a renowned hub in South East Asian region. CONCEPT In order to tap this potential in the state, Government of Maharastra has decided to composite project called ‘Multi-Modal International Passenger and Cargo Hub Airport at Nagpur’ (MIHAN). The Techno-Economic Feasibility Study (TEFS) was done by Consortium of internationally reputed consultants, lead by L&T Ramboll along with

The TEFS recommended developing the existing domestic airport of Nagpur as an International Passenger and Cargo Hub Airport, along with a huge Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which should be abutting to the boundary of the airport. INTERNATIONAL HUB AIRPORT – Project Highlights The existing airport of Nagpur with 3200 x 45 metres runway is to be extended to 3600 x 45 metres along with a parallel second runway of 4000 x 60 metres. The two runway will be separated by 1600 metres to facilitate parallel take-offs & landing. There will be provision for
parking of about 50 aircraft in the terminal and nearly 50 aircraft in the remote area. The SemiCircular terminals building of 3,00,000 sq. metres will be constructed in phases to meet the estimated 14 million passengers traffic by next decade and an estimated 8,70,000 tonnes of Cargo. There is also provision of space for setting up of Aircraft engineering and maintenance base (MRO) by the major Air Companies for comprehensive maintenance of aircraft.
The Advantages of Nagpur Airport The most conducive weather dynamics for airport, operational 24x7. Wind speed averages about 22km/hr. Good visibility. No fog or smog. Cloud ceiling always more than 500 feet. No such hub available within 4 hours flying time in the Indian sub-continent. The existing airport of Nagpur is already operational. The approved Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in MIHAN is adjacent to the Airport. Units within the SEZ would have access to world-class infrastructure and services in place. SEZ shall offer support services of International standards to the units and tax regime. Units within SEZ may be set up for manufacturing of goods, rendering of services, production, processing, assembling, trading, repairs, packaging, repackaging etc. Attractive fiscal incentives, soft regimes of taxes for developers and units, productivity friendly labour laws and simpler procedure shall be offered in the Zone. Environment would be business friendly with speedy clearing facility with single window clearance.
RAIL TERMINALS Developers: M/s. Nagpur Sical Gupta Logistics Ltd. –on PPP model Spread over an area of 28 hectares, it is a Public Private Participation project. It has all the requisite facilities required to make the Rail Terminals efficient, cost effective and time saving. It will be able to operate its own prime movers and rakes all over the railway system. ROAD TERMINALS Developers: M/s. Nagpur Sical Gupta Logistics Ltd. –on PPP model Road cargo has indicated a growth from 10 million tones in 1999-2000 to 12 million Tonnes in 2005-2006. The road terminals will be implemented on Public Private Participation modal will be spread on an area of 60 hectares and will comprise of truck (Multi-axle) Parking – 1,000 Nos.,
open Stockyards, Warehousing, Cold storage, Truck Maintenance along with Fueling Facilities, Staff Canteen, Dormitories, Sulabh Complex, First Aid etc.
POWER PLANT Due to the nature of units to be setup within SEZ, the demand for power is likely to be very high. To meet this demand a 200 MW (4x50) coal based Power Plant Project along with 25 MW diesel power spread over an area of about 60 Hectares is underway. It shall ensures adequate and uninterrupted power supply to the units in SEZ. TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION Power Transmission & Distribution is completely based on underground copper cable wiring. Transmission station, distribution sub-station etc. would be constructed within the Zone. The power project will be established on BOT basis with public-private partnership. Designed by Mott MacDonald, the work is expected to be completed by the year 2009. HEALTH CITY The Health City will be spread over 40 Hectares in SEZ with 2500 beds capacity and 11 Super Speciality Hospitals. This shall be accompanied by various support like Common Diagnostic Centre, Waste Disposal Facilities, Hotels for relatives or companions, Nurses Training Schools. Private players will operate one or more specialized units and SPV shall be constituted for the management of Health City. This health city is envisaged to be a preferred for health tourist all over the world. It shall offer world class health care facilities in different areas of specialization and super specializations like Neurology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Organ transplantation etc. providing less expensive treatments. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) PARK It as part of SEZ is being developed by major players in the I.T. Sector with BPO activities, Call Centres, Data Centres, Software Production Houses, Animation Studios etc., with four out of the five top I.T. companies already constructing their I.T. Centres viz., TCS, HCL, WIPRO & SATYAM.
OTHER MANUFACTURING AND VALUE ADDED UNITS These include Textile & Garment Zone, Gems & Jewellery, Pharaceutical Units, Food Processing Zone, Financial and Insurance Services etc.
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, HOTELS, ENTERTAINMENT, RESIDENTIAL AREA International passengers can visit Nagpur, stay in hotels, conduct business transaction and enjoy the best of atmosphere.
