(By Lt Col Zafar Mustafa) Poets embellish their verses with extravagant and sometime superfluous phrases and words to highlight their emotions and feelings. In this couplet, the poet is addressing his beloved who had an RV (Rendezvous) with him at the village well and warns her to end the meeting before it gets dark and she feels afraid of walking back alone. Hidden meaning is that he does not want her to be seen with him and invite the wrath of her family. Regarding use of words ‘Bin shaam Muhammad’, ‘bin’ means without, ‘sham’ means when sun sets and Muhammad is poet’s name. Poets usually mention their name in the last verse of a poem/ghazal and use

of words ‘bin’ and ‘shaam’ here is self-explanatory when we note the context in which these have been used; darkness falling and for her to go without the lover accompanying her.

It is also important to note that Hazrat Mian Mohammad Bukhsh RHA,is SIF UL MALOOK ,is originally written in Mi rpuri, Pahary along with Pothary pattern , language n accent. At the same time it is also true that most of the Punjabi,Arabic, persian n other words of the accents of local BOLLIES languages accents are brought in to use n so many Verses of Quran e Majeed are coated in form of poetry along with pharases of time n termonology of sufiism are used in highly articulated manner as well.

AOA, It is great contribution by you for opening this page. Khari Sharif is an area situated between northern side of Jhelum, southern side of Mirpur city and on its western side is river Jhelum and on eastern side is situated District Bhimber. Original name of Hazrat Mian Sahib (rha) and Hazrat Pira Shah Ghazi (rha) who is Mian Sahib’s (rha) spiritual teacher, is CHAKTAKHARA and Mian Sahib’s residence was in DOHAK KHANQA very adjacent to Shrine’s South-Western side. It is also important to note that Hazrat Mian Mohammad Bukhsh’s (rha) SAIF-UL-MALOOK is originally written in Mi rpuri, Pahary along with Pothohary pattern language and accent. It is also true that most of the Punjabi, Arabic, Persian and other words of the accents of local languages accents are brought in to use and so many verses of Quran-e-Majeed are quoated in form of poetry along with phrases of time and terminology of Sufism are used in highly articulated manner as well.

I’m so grateful to find this most touching poetry with translation. I’ve been yearning to find something of this sort in book form which explains the poetry as well. Coming across this si te was an amazing experience. Would you be able to recommend a book of this sort, though English translation would be difficult to find for complete Saif Ul Mulook, I don’t mind simple Urdu commentary. Also if there is anything of this sort for other Sufi poets like Baba Bulleh Shah online and any books you could reccomend in explanation of such poetry. Kind regards,

I came across the word Saiful Malook on my computer tablet, having heared that word many decades ago when I was a kid in Bahawalpur. That prompted me to search for it on the Internet. It is written in Multani/saraiki languge that is my mother tongue, though have not spoken it over fifty years, living in Canada. I appreciate your effort in translating the poetry for many of us to enjoy it. Thanks.
