Note: Binary pumps without the solvent selection valve (SSV) have an adapter installed between the solvent line and the active inlet valve (AIV). Disconnect the solvent tubes at the adapter and remove the adapter from the AIV.

Cleaning the Solvent Filter If the filter is in good condition, the solvent will freely drip out of the solvent tube (hydrostatic pressure). If the solvent filter is partially blocked, only very little solvent will drip out of the solvent tube. Caution: Small particles can permanently block the capillaries and valves of the module.

Exchanging the Outlet Ball Valve

Before exchanging the outlet ball valve, you can try to clean it in a sonic bath. Remove the gold seal and the sieve. Place the valve in upright position (onto the plastic cap) in a small beaker with alcohol. Place in a sonic bath for 5 to 10 minutes. Insert a new sieve and replace the gold seal.

Pistons and Seals Agilent pistons are made from a high purity, monocrystalline sapphire for maximum durability. Although ceramic pistons can be manufactured at a lower cost, ceramic is a sintered, polycrystalline material, which can cause undesirable variations during the production process. Agilent sapphire pistons are:

• Precisely aligned in their stainless steel holder to minimize wear on the piston and seal Agilent seals are designed to fit snugly around our pistons, and are capable of adapting to a wide range of flow rates and pressures. Agilent piston seals are:
• Spring-loaded and engineered to deliver optimal performance over highly dynamic flow and pressure ranges
• Manufactured from a proprietary polymer blend, and feature a spring made from the same high-quality stainless steel that is used in our pump's flow path The combination of our piston and seal has undergone extensive testing under temperature stress, with all common HPLC solvents, and in many instruments. Changing the Pump Seals Pump seals should be replaced when there are leaks on the bottom of the pump head, when retention times are inconsistent or when the pressure ripple is unstable.

1. Disassemble the pump head and use use a piston to remove the two seals. 2. Clean the pump chambers and seal areas areas by flushing with solvent solvent and wiping with a lint-free cloth. 3. Changing and Inspecting the Sapphire Pistons Each time you replace the seals, examine the pistons for scratches, which can cause small but damaging leaks.

Seal Wear-In Procedure Important: Do not perform this procedure when installing normal phase seals (0905-1420). It will cause severe damage to the seals.
Maintenance Procedure Recommended after replacing standard seals only (5063-6589)
1. Fill the bottle with 100 mL of isopropanol, isopropanol, and place it in the solvent cabinet. Then, place the new pump head tubing (including bottle head assembly) into the bottle. 2. Screw the adapter adapter to the active inlet valve. valve. Connect the inlet tube from the bottle head head directly to the adapter (quaternary pumps and binary pumps with selection valves only). 3. Connect the restriction capillary capillary to the purge valve. valve. Insert the other end of the capillary into a waste container. 4. Open the purge valve and purge the system system for 5 minutes with isopropanol at at a flow rate of 2 mL/min. 5. Close the purge valve valve and set the flow to a rate that is adequate adequate to achieve a pressure pressure of 350 bar. Pump for 15 minutes at this pressure to wear in the seals. You can monitor the pressure at your analog output signal using the handheld controller, ChemStation or any other controlling device connected to your pump. 6. Turn OFF the pump flow and slowly open the purge valve to release pressure from the system. 7. Disconnect the restriction capillary capillary and reconnect the outlet capillary to the purge valve. Reconnect the appropriate tubing to the active inlet valve. 8. Rinse your system with the solvent that you plan to use for your next application.

1. Select "Start" in in the maintenance maintenance function "Change "Change Needle." 2. Remov Removee the front front cover. cover. 3. Use the "Needle Up" command command in the "Change Needle" function function to lift the needle an additional 1 cm.
Maintenance Procedure
1. Disconnect Disconnect the seat seat capillary capillary fitting fitting from the injection valve (port 5).
2. Use a small small flat head head screwdriver screwdriver to ease out the needle seat.
3. Insert the new needle seat assembly. assembly. Press the seat firmly into position.

Replacing the Rotor Seal Caution: The stator face is held in place by the stator head. When you remove the stator head, the stator face can fall out of the valve. Carefully handle the valve to prevent damage to the stator face.

Maintenance Procedure
1. Remove Remove all capillary capillary fittings fittings from the injection valve ports.
2. Loosen Loosen each fixing fixing bolt two two turns at a time. Remove the bolts from the head.
3. Remove Remove the stator stator head, stator stator face and stator ring.
4. Remove the rotor rotor seal and isolatio isolationn seal.
5. Install Install the new rotor seal seal and isolation isolation seal. Ensure the metal spring inside the isolation seal faces towards the valve body.
6. Install Install the stator ring ring with the shorter shorter of the two pins facing towards you at the 12 o'clock position. Ensure the ring sits flat on the valve body.

8. Install stator stator head and stator face. Tighten the bolts alternating two turns at a time until the stator head is secure.

10. Slide the waste tube into the waste holder in the leak tray. 11. On completion of this procedure, install the front cover.

Fraction Collector Maintenance
Maintenance Mainte nance Procedure Proceduress Tubing Replacement There are two types of tubing available to connect the valve with the needle: preparative scale PTFE tubing (0.8 mm ID) and analytical scale tubing (0.25 mm ID). Both types should be replaced when they become contaminated, worn or damaged.
Maintenance Procedure 1. Position the fraction collector's transport unit in the "Home" position. 2. Remov Removee all installed installed trays from the tray base. base. 3. Position the transport unit in the "Change Parts" position. 4. Turn off the instrument.
Capillary Replacement Agilent offers three types of connecting capillaries – each with different internal diameters. We recommend replacing the capillaries and flap septum every six months – or when contaminated, blocked, worn, or visibly damaged.
Maintenance Procedure 1. Place the transport unit unit of the micro fraction collector/spotter in the "Home" position. 2. Remove all installed installed trays from the tray base. 3. Place the transport unit unit in the "Change Parts" Parts" position. 4. Turn off the instrument. 5. Unscrew the micro fraction fraction collector/spotter capillary from the flow cell of the detector. Consult your user's manual for detailed replacement instructions.

Valve Maintenance Notes • Vespel is a polyimide with low wear and high chemical resistance. Vespel tolerates a pH range of 0 to 10. More basic solutions dissolve Vespel, which damages the rotor seal.
• PEEK offers a high chemical resistance and versatility and will tolerate the entire pH range from 0 to 14.

Replacing the Max-Light Cartridge Cell in a 1290 Infinity LC Preparations 1. Turn the pump pump off. Note: If the flow cell has not been used for some time, flush it with isopropanol. isopropanol.
2. Disconnect the inlet capillary to CELL IN (left) and the waste waste tube to CELL OUT (right).
Maintenance Procedure 1. Unlock the cell cartridge cartridge holder holder by pulling the lever to the front. The lever should should be in the final down position. 2. Pull the cell cartridge holder holder completely out towards the front. 3. Remov Removee the cell from the cartridge cartridge holder. holder. 4. Replace the black hoods (A) to the cell interfaces (IN/OUT) and insert insert plugs (B) for safe storage. Note: The hoods and plugs should always be in place in order to protect the flow cell. For long-term storage, the flow cell should be flushed and filled with isopropanol to prevent the growth of algae.
