MAN RIDING SYSTEM Man riding systems are the rapid, safe and comfortable solution when it comes to transporting persons fast, over long distances, including horizontal and vertical curves in underground underground mines. These systems s ystems have become increasingly important in modern mining where production losses result from ever-longer travel distances underground. underground.
History: In India 1st such system (Chair lift system) was introduced in CHINIACURI mine of SECL, Coal India. The latest system of men transportation is by free steered vehicles which are widely used in Australian Mines and this technology is yet to be adopted in India. SCCL started introducing these modern and efficient men transporting systems in various mines since 1990.As on date27 man riding systems are commissioned in SCCL, 8 man riding systems are under erection and 3 man riding systems are under procurement. **15 chair car & 23 chair lift systems are in use in 27 Mines and 9 new s ystems are under various stages of implementation i mplementation **To date a total of o f 17 such systems and two extensions to existing systems have been commissioned commiss ioned at underground mines in India which constitutes over 55% of all the MCLSs commissioned commiss ioned in India. **Of these, 14 systems and two extensions have b een commissioned commissioned at Singareni Collieries Company Limited ("SCCL") ("SCCL") and the balance three systems at Coal India Limited ("CIL"). Additionally, orders for a further two systems are under execution in South Eastern Coalfields Limited ("SECL") ("SECL") and tenders for a further two systems are under negotiation at Western Coalfields Limited ("WCL").

Market Overview in India: y
110BT proven & and about 60 BT extractable coal reserves.
y
Production of coal in India is shared by CIL (81%), SCCL (9.5%), others & captive mines (9.5%).
y
As on 2010 data 214 Coal blocks having geological reserves of 50889.3 MT were allotted to Private and Public sector utilities to augment coal production.
y
Huge reserves of coal are locked up in underground as standing pillars, in thick seams and in depths beyond 300m.
