Liquidation Sources Exposed Thank you for your purchase There fact that you purchased this guide shows that you are more than likely tired of viewing countless websites showing the same pallets and truckloads of merchandise. If you have completed any research at all you have probably have come to the conclusion that every Broker and wholesale liquidation company is buying from one source. You are a few pages away from discovering this source. The big box stores contract with one reverse logistics company to process millions of dollars of returned, overstock and surplus merchandise that is sold to by the pallet and truckload to end resellers like yourself. There are liquidation wholesalers who buy large truckloads and then resell on w wholesale level by the pallet. Some of the more successful liquidators have large warehouses where you can go and pick your pallets out. The Internet is filled with thousands of Brokers who never touch the merchandise they sell. Maybe you have bought a pallet or two from a Broker. More than likely your experience was “less than” expected. This guide was written to help you understand where to buy and maximize your spending budget. This guide will explain where all of the big wholesalers buy their loads from. This guide will also allow you to stop buying from Brokers and buy directly from the Brokers' source! Why should you continue to pay a Brokers commission when you can buy direct? Please read through this guide carefully as I have created a step by step process guiding you through each step of the way.
What Is A Liquidator? A liquidator distributes merchandise that is considered surplus and/or salvage. A liquidator can get merchandise from a variety of sources including retail customer returns, stagnant inventory, last seasons models, overstock, canceled orders and other means. The Liquidators main audience for this type of merchandise is simply anyone that is searching for wholesale merchandise to resell. Possible clients of a liquidation company can include Ebay sellers, small retail store owners, Flea Market vendors and exporters. Some Liquidators will purchase this type of merchandise in large quantities and then resell to anyone wishing to buy at below wholesale pricing. Obviously the Liquidator is in business to make money so all merchandise is marked up before it is offered to the end reseller. Not all Liquidators actually warehouse the merchandise they offer for sale. Hence the term Broker. If Liquidation Company is offering a specific pallet or truckload of merchandise that they do not own this is called brokering. The liquidator would list as many details including pictures if available of the merchandise adding their commission or profit to the sales price. When a reseller purchases the pallet or truckload the liquidation broker simply buys the pallet or truckload at that time and then arranges shipping to the client. I will stress at this point that there is nothing wrong with a broker who educates his clients and represents the merchandise being brokered in an honest manor. Also a prudent broker will not mark a pallet or truckload up so high that an end reseller cannot make a profit after freight charges. I would like to say all brokers act in an ethical manor adhering to the principles I outlined about, but this is simply not the case. Due to a few reasons mentioned above about the way a broker might choose to transact business is more than likely the reason you have purchased this guide with the intent to “Bypass” the Broker and get to the direct source for liquidated merchandise. You have made a wise decision.
Two major categories of Closeout Merchandise include: Customer Returns - Merchandise that has been purchased at retail level and then returned to the original store for various reasons. Some returns are defective, broken or simply returned for no apparent reason at all. A consumer might return merchandise because it was bought in haste or by impulse. In this scenario if the original packaging is not intact or missing a component the retailer will deem it salvage. Defective or broken merchandise is a tricky area; often products can be repaired if you have the skill required. You should expect a percentage of damaged and/or irreparable items when purchasing customer returns. Every pallet and truckload will vary in defects/damages. Shelf Pull Merchandise - Products that were previously on the shelf in a retail store but were never sold. They may have multiple price tags/stickers on the packaging or they may have been display models showing use and missing parts. Typically considered undamaged, shelf pull merchandise will require a little work in appearance prior to reselling, for example apparel might need to be steamed or pressed before merchandising.
Your First purchase – When it is delivered This is an exciting time having just received your first pallet or truckload of closeout merchandise! Once you have the pallets moved to an area where they will be stored you will want to start the tedious task of visually inspecting and taking inventory. Depending on the type of merchandise you bought your merchandise will be either in a large Gaylord box (on the pallet) of which you will have to remove piece by piece or in multiple boxes stacked on a pallet. I would highly recommend you have ample room to sort through your pallets one at a time. Depending on how you plan to resell the merchandise will determine how much you have to go through at any one time. For example if you are selling piece by piece on Ebay you can work through one pallet at a time. This is the preferable method as your pallet can contain hundreds of items. Obviously if you are selling your merchandise in a store or at the flea market you will have to inventory piece by piece and prepare for merchandising.
I want to buy closeouts from a specific store?
This guide will explain how and where to buy from. It should be noted that the following stores use a third part reverse logistics company to resell their shelf pulls, customer returns and salvage. There is no other way to purchase liquidation merchandise from these stores. All liquidation companies including brokers are buying pallet and truckloads of this merchandise from the reclamation center we are about to disclose to you.
The stores in no particular order are:
Sears
Walmart.com
Kmart
Dicks Sporting Goods
JC Penney’s

The service they offer is very user-friendly especially for those who are new to shipping by pallet or truckload. It is easy to get started...Your first step is to register for a New Account
CH Robinson is another large freight Broker. CH Robinson operates in every State and chances are they have a terminal near you home or business.

Common Questions Answered Q) Will I need a forklift to unload my pallets? A) A forklift will make unloading much easier. An actual loading dock would be the best situation, but most of those reading this probably do not have either. You have a couple of options including arranging with a local business to receive your shipment for a predetermined fee or having your shipment left at the nearest freight terminal. You can then pick your merchandise up using a large truck and/or trailer on your schedule. Q) Where can I purchase an economical pallet jack?
A) Watch your local newspaper for used pallet jacks or industrial equipment auctions. New pallet jacks can be purchased through Harbor Freight for about $279.00 Q) Will the freight company deliver to my residential address? A) Yes with an extra fee usually between $25-$75 Q) How much extra will it cost to have a lift gate truck deliver my pallets? A) A lift gate truck for delivery will add between $50-$100. Please note most lift gate trucks will hold a maximum of 10-12 pallets. There are not too many 53' trailers (24 pallet capacity) offering lift gate services
Q) I live in an apartment complex...Will this be a problem? A) The trucks that will deliver your pallet(s) are too large to maneuver through an apartment complex. You will need to arrange to have your merchandise delivered to a business address or to a terminal closest to your home Q) How will I know when my shipment will arrive? A) All major trucking companies will either have web tracking or a customer service phone number where you can call and get delivery details Q) What is the best way to save on shipping costs? A) The best way to save is to purchase as many pallets as you can afford at any one time. This will lower your per pallet freight costs dramatically

Customer Returns Customer Returns represent merchandise that cannot be sold by our retail stores due to the product being previously purchased or not first quality. The majority of this merchandise will vary from almost first quality (i.e., returned by a customer due to preference) to slightly distressed (i.e., broken zippers, missing a button, make-up stains, extreme wrinkling). Customer Return lots on average contains approximately 15% to 20% of highly distressed merchandise. Macy’s Inc. stores send non-saleable merchandise to a Central Return Center (CRC) where items are scanned and sorted by merchandise category. Merchandise is from all Macy’s Inc. store locations (Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s) and will vary upon availability. Customer Return merchandise is sold by pallet by category and the pricing is based on a percent of the original vendor cost, which will vary, by category. Lists of Customer Returns pallets available for sale will be posted weekly on the Liquidation website. Merchandise Category

Store Stock Store Stock represents first quality merchandise that has exceeded Macy’s Inc. store’s aging standards and must be removed from the selling floor in order to accommodate new merchandise. Store Stock lots can contain a small percentage of slightly distressed product (i.e., from fitting room damage), not to exceed 5%. Macy’s Inc. stores collect this merchandise and ship it to a Central Return Center (CRC) where it is scanned and consolidated with similar merchandise from other stores. Due to the fact that Macy’s Inc. stores do not return goods at the same time, Store Stock lots generally will contain a wide assortment of merchandise, which is inclusive of all of the Macy’s Inc. selling divisions (Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores). Store Stock merchandise is sorted by merchandise category and sold in lots that normally range from 1 to 6 pallets. Pricing for Store Stock merchandise is based on a percent of the original vendor cost by category of merchandise. Lists of Store Stock lots that are available for sale are e-mailed or posted weekly on the Liquidation website. Merchandise Category

Division Jobouts Division Jobout merchandise consists of first quality store floor overstock that either a Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s buyer designates to be sold. At the end of a selling season, all designated merchandise is removed from a retail-selling floor, boxed and then forwarded to a Central Return Center (i.e. all winter coats are removed from the selling floor mid-spring to make room in the stores for swimwear). The Central Return Centers palletize the shipments by Jobout lot number and store location. Division Jobout merchandise is not mixed with another division’s merchandise (i.e., Macy’s goods are never mixed with Bloomingdale’s) and the merchandise is predominantly category driven with assortments of a certain targeted category (coats, swim, shoes, suits etc...). The goods are available by selling store(s) so that one may obtain a full size and color range. The seasonal nature of the product as well as the selling departments included in each lot can be provided upon request. Our typical offerings include merchandise from the following categories: Women’s Shoes, Women’s Apparel, Men’s Apparel, Swim wear, Coats, China, Furniture and Mattresses. Pricing on Division Jobouts varies by lot based on the quantity of units as well as vendor and product assortment. Lists of Division Jobout lots available for sale are e-mailed or posted weekly on the Liquidation website.
Floor Ready The Macy’s Inc. Floor Ready program offers clients the ability to purchase Store Stock, first-quality merchandise in smaller quantities and in more specific merchandise categories. This program is not available at all locations due to space constraints. Floor Ready merchandise is hung and sorted by merchandise classification (dresses, sportswear, juniors) and/or vendor (designer, brand names, private label brands). Merchandise may be purchased by classification in pre-sorted lots (generally 500 – 1500 units), by Designer/Brand Name or by the unit. Quantities are limited and listings of products offered will only be e-mailed or posted weekly on the Liquidation website as the merchandise becomes available. New Clients must indicate that they would be interested in the Floor Ready program on their Client Registration Form in order to receive product availability notices. Prices will vary based upon designer, brand name and merchandise category assortments. Merchandise Category
